  1. I use a 1000 for bass but not for jigs, chatterbaits, frogs, swimbaits, etc. Not saying that it can't be done, just not what I would do. Hooksets would be my main concern unless it's on a MH or H
  2. I hope the stradic is just for the shakyhead
  3. My PB isn't that exciting, it is a 24"er that lives in my neighbors pond, that I fish 2-3 times a week (only a 3 acre pond so she is smart as all heck to be caught that seldomly, the 22"er is also smart as all heck). I have caught her 3 times since the first capture in August 2013. I have a spot picked out for pre-spawn 2015 that gets stocked with trout = big mammas, I'm gonna try to break the legendary 10lb mark this spring (aim high miss low) lord knows there are some giants in there, I have seen plenty of them with my own eyes! They are just so friggin smart. Deep knows the spot I'm referring to.
  4. They come up to the rivers near my house in the spring to spawn, but they don't feed during their run so it's fine. Very weird to see a 3' eel with teeth swimming around in a tiny creek. What's even crazier is that they make it all the way here from the bay! I have even seen them in trout streams. They STINK...BAD.
  5. Never leave fish to find fish. (I am just as guilty as anyone about breaking this rule)
  6. It wasn't until 2 years ago that I started fishing for bass with anything other than a weightless or t-rigged finesse worm on 6lb test. 90% of my time was spent chasing trout and crappies, I pretty much have them dialed in 24/7 365 in my area...So when I want to catch trout, I can go catch trout. Same goes for crappies. Now I just need to figure out this bass stuff .
  7. Turned these Into this.....time to relax
  8. Sirsnooksalot will help you out
  9. This little ball of fury thinks he can protect the house when we aren't home....Our black lab backs him up though.
  10. I think carp are really fun to fish for, but I usually sight fish with light tackle and I move around a bunch. Both grass and common carp are pretty fun on medium light and light action rods with 4-6lb test. In terms of other species including bass, I can fish for hours on end without a bite as long as I'm moving around and trying to figure something out, but plop me in a seat and I can't even wait for an hour.
  11. Get out on the ice to catch a few fish, find a warmwater discharge to fish, and find some flowing water with trout.
  12. The east coast has some fish bowls that get stocked that also hold big bass, there is only so much area for a trout to run when the lake is tiny. I'm going to fish a lake today that is <5 acres and is stocked 8 times a year.
  13. The worst that could happen is you not catching any and going back to your normal techniques. Worth a shot, doing something outside the box can really pay off.
  14. I have only seen one while fishing, it was in the dead of winter and I thought it was really cool, it swam right up to me to see what I was up to. I would imagine it would be pretty easy for them to catch "cold" fish. Although every time I have talked to someone who thought their pond was "cleaned out by otters" I have still caught plenty of fish.
  15. I may end up purchasing one eventually. First I'm gonna wait for all of eternity for my negotiator to arrive. Knew it was a bad sign when they took them off TW.
  16. Spring fed is probably really clear, I would say finesse jigs, a finesse worm on a shakyhead, drop shot, aaaaaannnnnndddddd if that doesn't work......Shiners! Never too cold for a bass to eat a shiner lol
  17. I brought home a decent pickerel I caught this summer...Very good eating. I think pickerel are really cool, this is probably cause they are an extremely rare catch around here. I have caught 3 in my life, and I have a feeling I would hate them if there were many where I fish.
  18. Get rid of those spinners and get some soft plastics
  19. I thought 175 was 175mm like the s-waver sizes my mistake
  20. All of my smallmouth fishing is in shallow rivers in late spring thru early fall...Baby Boo Jig w/ an Ultravibe Speed Craw trailer, T-Rigged Finesse Worm (1/32-1/8oz weight), 4" GYCB Senko Weightless or T-Rigged with 1/32-1/8oz, Zara Puppy, White 3/8oz double willow Spinnerbait w/ a Swimmin Fluke Jr. trailer, KVD 1.5 in stained water. If you want a "real" smallmouth 'round these parts : S-waver 168, Spro BBZ JR 6" floater.
  21. Lots of trout baits come in different color patterns, so if you live somewhere with absolutely no trout then don't by trout patterns. Bass will hit trout patterns everywhere, but you need to worry less about the color and more about using a bait that is known for getting bit.
  22. S-waver is my favorite bait to fish b/c of how fish behave around it.
  23. Where do you catch yellow perch? I have fished for them a bunch but never got on a consistent bite
