Texas Hawg Hunter

This is my Heritage Angler 10 footer. I really like the 10 because it fits in my truck with no fancy equipment and is carryable by myself without messing with a cart. Put a milk crate in the back, have a drift chute, and will likely get a flag and/or stern light for increased visibility. Took it out for the first time last weekend, caught some white bass, but seeing that motorboat pulling a wakeboarder just made me a bit uneasy I was never in any danger but still would like to increase my water profile.

Nice, that's why I went with a 10 ft. kayak. It is carryable by one person and fits in my truck bed without fancy equipment, unlike larger models.

Fishing at a pond just before dark tonight. Fan casted a buzzbait and noticed a bit of "extra" water activity seemed to be stirred up by the bait. No bites so switched to a squarebill and nothing. Switched to a lipless and caught a crappie. I haven't fished a buzzbait a whole lot but it seems like it got the fish "stirred up" a bit, then I went in and targeted them with the lipless. Anyone else have this happen?

I was at a pond this afternoon throwing a lipless crankbait in muddy water. Suddenly a good sized fish surfaced when trying to strike the lure but missed. I didn't get a good look at the fish but it looked dark and wide like a catfish. Do catfish eat lipless cranks? I thought they only liked stinky bait.

just straight braid...messing with leaders just overly complicates things in my opinion

For Xmas I got an Abu Garcia Revo SX reel and a 7 ft. St. Croix meduim-heavy rod. This is replacing a baitcaster rod/reel that I have had since the early 90s. I am totally blown away at how much more smoothly and farther this set up casts, especially my light weight lures like squarebills and weightless plastics. Very eye opening to the difference quality equipment makes...my old rod was also a medium-heavy.

This was spawned from recent bank fishing discussions in the general forum. If anyone is interested in starting a club or organizing events, let's talk. In the DFW area.

I also found some vids of UK guys using similar equipment for fishing in the saltwater surf. Similar long reel-less pole except they actually cast the thing in a semi-running type motion and set the pole on a tall tripod rest...pretty interesting.

Ok, all this talk about starting clubs, tournaments etc... spurred me to action. I'm going over to the local fishing forum and posting an announcement to form a bank fishing club in the DFW area.

I think you're looking at it in the wrong light. I've never done this but it sounds intriguing. It seems like something that requires a lot of skill, patience, mental toughness, etc... to get good at...more than I have. IMO, if someone is going to go through all that trouble to catch a fish and they are successful at it, more power to them.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is illegal.

Well, from reading the previous posts, it looks like the Europeans are way ahead of us in that regard!

Check this guy out, I am amazed by this as it is such a different style of fishing. Sort of like a cane pole but on steroids. It also has a small cup full of "castors" on the end (I presume, castor beans) that he rolls over and pours in where his hook is.
