  1. It really was the strangest feeling ever. A lot of people I have told the story too can't understand how that could happen. It felt like I hooked on to the back end of a Mack truck. It literally was ripped completely out of my hands. Oh well I can look back at it and laugh it at a little bit now and is a good story to bring out to get a laugh or 2.
  2. Can someone explain how Bass tours operate and how professional anglers get ranked and why they are part of different organizations? I hear about FLW, Bass master, Major league fishing etc. Not sure what qualifications you need to be part of each tour and how anglers get ranked. It seems very confusing to me.
  3. $1 plastic Stanley Ribbit frog. Unfortunately attached to it was $20 Power pro, $109 Daiwa Ballistic T3, and a $99 Fenwick Silverhawk. Frog hooks got lodged in the back of the boat on 1st cast and sling shotted it 50 ft into the river. 1st day out with new setup. Still makes me sick.
  4. KVD 1.5 Blackback/chart crankbait, 6" BPS green pumpkin/magic pearl squirmin lizard, Black/blue flake Yamamoto senko, Zoom trick worms green pumpkin.
  5. I started drop shotting a year ago and it quickly became my favorite go to method when the fishing got tough and eventually became my favorite method all together. I always caught fish when nothing else worked. My most effective setup was a 3' 8lb Red Label flouro leader with a VMC spin shot and a 3/16 oz VMC tungsten cylinder drop shot weight. I'd tie on about a 16" leader from the spin shot to the drop shot weight. The spin shots are absolutely awesome as you will have no line twist and they are very sharp hooks. They do dull quickly but they are inexpensive so I changed them virtually after every trip. For bait nothing worked better for me than 4 1/2-6"zoom trick worms in green pumpkin. They worked everywhere I fished. If you ever watch Aaron Martens he always is drop shotting or reverts back to it in every bass fishing episode you see him on. It just flat out works all year long!
  6. That was my exact thoughts. I love the KVD squarebills and the red eyes shads are my favorite lipless crank of all the ones that I have tried. Some even come with the trokar hooks.
  7. Just purchased 5 KVD jerkbait/slashbait after watching a KVD video about how great of a jerkbait it was and how he spent 2 years perfecting it. Come to find out, many said he was using a Megabass Vision 110 on a recent MLF show! I want my money back!
  8. That's what I was planning to do. Just wasn't sure if it would be too late and if the ethanol separation is permanent once it has separated. Hate to pump out the tank. I'll try your first recommendation !
  9. As spring is approaching and the dog days of winter are hopefully coming to an end, I started thinking about the to do list to get ready for another great season of fishing. As I went in to the storage unit where I park my boat, I see a full bottle of Sta-bil sitting on the stern of the boat. In my haste to winterize, I completely forgot to add it in. Is it too late to add it in? I have a 2001 Mercury 90 HP 2 stroke that runs great and would hate to screw it up over a bout of forgetfulness.
  10. Anyone have this sonar? I am looking to upgrade my sonar for my trolling motor. I have a lowrance elite 4 hdi. Not a big fan and wanted to try a Garmin. It seems though all of the pros are using mostly Lowrance products.
  11. I have both, the veritas in the m and the veracity in the red mh. I prefer the veritas personally. I would not spend the extra on the veracity.
  12. Titled it wrong! I meant Sonar. Mental cramp! I'll edit it.
  13. Looking to put a sonar on my trolling motor. I have a Lowrance hdi 4 that I have mixed feelings about that I use behind the console and am looking at the Garmin 501 c and the Garmin 551c to put up front. Any feelings on these sonars? Is it worth the extra $40 for the 551C or should I go with the 501c? Never owned a Garmin. Or, should I stay with the Lowrance. They have the 4X with CHIRP for $169. Just looking for opinions and experience with these units. Thanks!
  14. Cabelas has the Sh and as I said $99.
  15. Another great deal at Cabelas $199 down to $99. Daiwa reels are drastically reduced right now for some reason. Was going to pay $30 for the Lagalis (1/2 off from $60) and then see this reel also at 1/2 off. High end reel (at least for me) for $100 off seems like a heck of a deal. Looking for a 2500 for shakyhead fishing. Wondering if anyone has any experience with it?
  16. Looks like a no on the Legalis. Thought that I might get enough from camp Daiwa to convince me that it was a decent enough reel to consider. Apparently not!! Oh well $30 wouldn't break the bank but at least I know it is not considered in the same class as the President.
  17. I was a die hard fly fisherman for years until I got hooked on bass fishing and wanted to try more modern day equipment and bought a BPS PQ and a couple of President spinning reels. I bought 2 zebco omegas as well for my kids (I paid $150 for them) because I "thought" they would be easier to learn on. After a few outings the omegas didn't go on the fishing trips and the kids were using the presidents and eventually the PQ. The kids loved the smoothness and the fun of of the spinning and baitcasting reels so much that I now have 2 virtually brand new Zebco Omegas collecting dust!
  18. Was on the hunt for an inexpensive spinning reel to pair up with a veritas rod I got for half price. Going to use it primarily for shaky head fishing. went to cabelas for another president (own a couple) and saw this legalis on sale for 1/2 off for 30 bucks. Has decent reviews(not as good as the president) so thought I'd get an opinion or 2 here to see if I should save 30 bucks and give it a chance?

  20. X2. Great bait caster for the money and even better to learn on.
  21. I luv it. I also use it on braided line. Definitely keeps memory down on FC and on braid just seems to cast smoother.
  22. Anybody ever use this product? I have a few rods that the EVA foam is a little tattered and thought about wrapping this on before stripping the foam off and replacing with new. I have small hands and like a tacky feel and thought this might fit the bill. Any other suggestions I am all ears.
  23. You can buy them all day long at amazon for $100 with free s/h. You are right, they are not apples to apples as the Tatula is better IMO. Yes, I agree, I did get a lemon. I don't doubt they are a good reel. They have plenty of reviews to back them up. I really liked mine before the issues but the regular speed spool for $99 is not on par with Tatula even when it was functioning perfectly. If you were talking about the BB1 maybe you would have an argument. I am just trying to point someone in the direction of a better reel at roughly the same cost.
  24. I have one. I had issues with mine, grindy feel on the retrieve and screeching on the cast after 2 months. I took it completely apart and gave it a good cleaning but it still isn't the same. Tatula is much better IMO. Casts farther and is smoother. Doesn't palm as well but for $100, I would go with a Tatula.
