  1. My first reel/rod combo was a president / cabelas series rod a few years back. Cost me 65 bucks, the rod was a peice of junk and ended up breaking at the tip to a 28 inch pike. The reel however I still use to this day and I always bring it out to any fishing outing. For that price, I would grab it in a heartbeat.
  2. Check out Fenwick's SilverHawk rod series. They retail at 100, but i've gotten 2 from cabelas for $50 and they are awesome. I have 1 spinning and 1 casting and both perform well. If i'm not mistaken either BPS or Cabelas will have them on sale shortly for their big events in the next week or so.
  3. Lots to learn about the great sport of fishing. This is a great place to start and everyone is extremely helpful and nice. Enjoy your stay and bookmark BR for easy access!!
  4. This. The original hooks are not good but that can be said about most lures fresh off the rack.... I really like them when fishing cold water or lathargic bass. They have a great suspending action that'll wake up some slow moving bass.
  5. Been fishing since 93' with my Pops..... I was born in 90' Fishing was the best thing that was ever forced on me
  6. Spend a few winters in Chicago.... You'll never be cold in Tennesee again.
  7. This is what I was taught by all of the ole wiley veteran fisherman that tutored me in this lovely passion. The fact of the matter is once the fish is hooked, it's a fight and someone has to lose. Sadly, you had to bite the bullet on that fish... but hey! you got a good story out of it!!
  8. Water's looked awesome.. Bass weren't too shabby either! Great vid, I've always wanted to purchase a kayek and do this, but i'm a big guy (6'4 265 ex Division 1 OL) and I don't think i'd fit too well in one!
  9. I like where dem bass be hiding....
  10. Vote for Pflueger supreme / Supreme XT. Fantastic reels for the price, probably won't go away from these reels for awhile.
  11. everything gives you cancer these days. Also, I find it hard that the study can accurately say 20% more likely to get cancer.
  12. I own that model Pflueger and my buddy has the symetre. We both like the Pflueger more, casts farther and seems smoother. Both are fantastic though IMO
  13. Green Jacket, Gold Jacket, Who cares? In all seriousness, who cares if your set up costs 30 dollars or 3000 dollars. Fishing is about catching fish, use whatever means you feel comfortable to have fun and catch em'. I own and regularly use a 30 dollar uglystick set up with $1 wal-mart spinners and catch fish. I also own a $350 dollar set up i use for other techniques and I catch fish on that too. Same goes for lures, I know my rant is a lil off topic

  15. Hey now! You weren't the first to start the spinnerbait trend! Back off my Kudos!
  16. I've caught some nice bass with a size 5 dressed aguila... I was also targeting pike with it. I'd bet you could work a size 5 and catch them as well.
  17. I'll go against the majority and say spinnerbait. I base this on nothing, as I like to throw both depending on the situation. As for a tip, I really started to see success when I started to NOT just chuck the spinnerbait out and reel it back in. Make it dance, make the blades flutter and vary your retrieve speed. Also, if you hit a stump or some type of cover let it flutter for a second, if a fish is there they will strike Hope that helps if you decide to go the spinnerbait route, youtube KVD spinnerbait videos. He is a master of Spinners.
  18. If i come across a great target to throw at (log, brush pile, weed bed, ETC) i'll try a few different approaches before i'll move on if I haven't figured out a pattern yet. Working a great peice of cover until i get bit is a great way for me to figure out the bite for the day. Obviously, I won't hang out all day on that spot but i'll work it throughly.
  19. Fishing is helping you pay the bills? I'm sure i speak for many when I say you are a lucky man/woman.
  20. I'm glad to see that others are in similar pain as me. As they say, Misery loves company....
  21. I've ice fished the slough a few times this winter and had good luck as well. Always a good time!
  22. I own one. It's nice to have on hand to get the O ring on quickly and centered. Also nice not to be fiddling with baits instead of letting them sink in the water.
  23. Obviously this doesn't apply to some of you lucky folks who can fish year round (I'm not so lucky, from Northwest Indiana where the temp was a mild -9 degree's this morning at 5). My question is what are you doing to pass the time until you can hit the waters? I've been making frequent stops to Cabelas and BPS (Both of which are roughly 30 minutes from my house). Drinking entirely too much alcohol on the weekends bar hopping with friends and getting settled into a new job. -Djman
  24. B2B sales for Xerox. Graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and want to get into chemical/orthopedic sales. Needed some experience to be considered for most serious positions. Pay is nice and I've really expanded my fishing arsenel for the first time.
