Hey i was looking at some other posts and videos and ive seen many people using the wacky rig tool and i would just like some info and input on what you think about this device before i go out and buy it

I've got three now so I am never very far from one in the boat 

They make life easy. Cheap alternative is a emptied out sharpie marker.

now how do u hook it thru the worm with that on there? do u hook it normally just next to that or thru loop?

I don't understand your last question, but an alternative to a wacky tool is the bottom half of one of those 4-color pens:

Under the O ring.

Insert the hook between the o-ring and the worm/stick. You don't want to pierce the worm when using the o-ring.

thanks i saw the pic and the ring was diferent than i thought so ill probably be goin out and buyin my one...what do you think about using vmc weedless wacky rig hooks?

As I noted in that thread, I've had good luck with my wacky rig until just recently. I typically use a single o-ring. There are lots if great suggestions on how to improve hooksets with a wacky rig, particularly from a kayak.

I personally don't care to use two o-rings just to get the hook perpendicular. While they're not expensive, the o-rings are not exactly cheap either (esp. when one of my options is to buy them from Lowes at $3-4 for a pack of 10). And losing a senko, two o-rings, and a hook if you snag can quickly add up.

That's why I was excited to try the rubber band hair ties today. It might be a super cheap way to rig the senko for better hookups.

I ordered 600 a couple years ago and with the shipping it was right around $15.   They are good rings too.

I own one. It's nice to have on hand to get the O ring on quickly and centered. Also nice not to be fiddling with baits instead of letting them sink in the water.

I've been using a small piece of plastic tubing and its worked just fine. The only real difference is there isn't a taper on one end so its a little tougher to slide the o rings on. The added benefit to that though is your free to slide the worm in or out as much as you need.

I use 2 O-Rings and criss-cross them and insert the hook through where the rings cross, under both. This way the hook is 90 degrees to the bait, which I believe gives you better hookups. No tool needed. Wet the pointed end in your mouth and they slide up the bait pretty easy. Never have to look for your mouth like you would a tool. A dab of Megastrike makes them slide up pretty easy too. You'd be putting this on anyway, right?

I personally don't care for the weed guard on them.  I've missed more than a few fish because it didn't collapse enough for the hook's point to catch.  I ended cutting the looped end off and shortening the remaining wires.  The hooks themselves are excellent, but if I'm looking for a weedless hook, I go with my old standby EagleClaw 249WA

That wacky tool works ok, but I'm not sure that it works any better than spit.  I have ripped senko's a couple of times when I got in a hurry and didn't slobber up the o-ring first.

 

If you've got to buy o-rings, the correct size is 3/8" OD and 1/4" ID.  Go to orings.com, spend the 15 bucks or so and have a lifetime supply.

I never bought the tool, I made my own with a thick crayola marker hollowed out with small rubber bands I have from braces instead of o-rings, and the whole thing works great and is completely free

I buy a 100 pk of small black rubber bands from the dollar store for 50 cents. Makes a perfect ring for wacky rig.

The tool works great.  With the o-rings you save a lot of baits because they slide of the line during the vast majority of hookups.  I found a reference to an industrial source for the o-rings (rather than buying them at Bass Pro), resulting in significant savings.  I sometimes use the weedless wacky hooks and most of the time they will still slide up the line on a hookup, however the worm will get torn up faster when you slide it back over the weedless wire and back on the hook.

Old thread, but I am trying to figure out the need for this tool. I simply roll on a 5/16” ID O-ring to the midpoint on a 5” Senko in about 1.5 seconds.  It’s not a super tight fit but it stays on and keeps the hook on. Nothing is easier!
