  1. I was looking into them, unfortunately they are only open Thurs - Sun. but I have that place on my list to check out for sure. Thanks for that input Choporoz.
  2. Hey guys, I currently live in Ladysmith, my main fishing is done in the lake in my gated community, however my Dad and I would like to try other places, we just don't know of any around the area. Figured this would be a good place to ask if anyone knows of any decent places to fish from the shore, anywhere near Fredericksburg down to Ladysmith would be preferable, we plan on going out tomorrow to test some places. I use lures and he uses the ole' worm and hook method, though I think I'm finally getting him to come over to the dark side. Thanks for any input.
  3. Thanks everyone for your input. I have taken them all and it's been very helpful.
  4. Hey guys, I've been around the forums a bit, still learning the ropes though. I have a question and this may be all based off of personal preference but being that all I have ever used is a Abu Garcia Black Max 2, I don't have much else to go on so figured you all could help. First off I fish mostly with crankbaits, hard plastics and a frog. Rarely do I use soft plastics. With that said I have the option of getting a reel around the $130 range, currently Gander in my area has two reels I was interested in, the Lew's Tournament MG - with a $20 long sleeve shirt mail and rebate, or a Abu Garcia Revo S - with a $50 hoodie mail and rebait. Obviously the mail and rebate's don't make or break the reel I just through those in. In your personal experience which one is the better reel to go after with the kind of fishing that I do, or do you suggest another reel in the exact same price range? Any input would be very helpful. Thanks!
  5. Weather is looking to be nice, if anyone is going out soon and looking to fill a seat let me know. I live in ladysmith (20 mins south of Fredericksburg) and don't mind making a drive.
  6. Sorry for the late response, the job has changed and my boat finding days are officially on hold. I am still fishing the lakes and ponds here which are producing pretty well. Land Or is where I'm at, I haven't gotten to anywhere else because I don't have a boat and don't know the area well enough to go somewhere confidently. I appreciate the inside on AP Hill, I didn't know they had all of that water. I used to work on 17, in front of Geico, got to love the traffic in the summer there! Looks like it's going to be another great weekend for fishing.
  7. What a nice weekend it has turned out to be. I think tomorrow morning I'm going to hit the lakes/ponds in my neighborhood. Can't wait to get a boat!
  8. Nice, a lot of you are local, if any of you want to get together this spring and hit some water let me know!
  9. Instead of starting a new thread I will piggy back off of this one. My current (and first) baitcaster looks like this. 6:4:1 Abu Garcia Black Max w/ a Abu Garcia Vengeance 2-peice 6'6" Medium Rod At the tiem I purchased these they fit my small budget, there was really no research involved. My thoughts to you are, would you make any changes to this setup, if not what would you throw with my current setup? Thanks
  10. Thanks for all the info guy's. Roadwarrior, that link is a reel as opposed to a rod (unless you meant to post a reel). Coak, your right, I'm new to the forums as of a couple days ago, so I'm trying to feel around and get to know some people. Alot of good info here, that's why I signed up!
  11. Thanks for some of that info. My online shops are *** and BP. Like I said I'm new in the game, do you have some other places that you tend to go to? As far as my fishing habits, for right now I use a lot of crankbaits and swimbaits, mainly on lakes and rivers. I have one spinning setup and one baitcaster, my in depth knowledge of reels and rods is still in the making because I am learning.
  12. I would like to get a new baitcaster before the spring time, I currently own a Abu Garcia black max which is my first ever baitcaster and have a decent amount of casts with it. There is a lot of information out there regarding baitcasters and it's a bit overwhelming, so I figured I would ask here. With a budget of about $125 is there a specific rod/reel combo you would suggest or should I strictly use that cash for a reel (again open suggestions) and save for a rod later. Any advice you can give a fairly new angler would be appreciated.
  13. I've been trying to look around for some clubs that will take non-boaters, doesn't seem to be too many in my immediate area.
  14. One Fish Anna, haha. Haven't had much luck there have you? Bass boat is last, behind a new shovel for her. Thanks for the well wishes!
  15. Thanks for that info cwalsh, I can't purchase a boat due to getting married in a few months, so once I am able to get one I will look him up!
  16. Most of you aren't far away. I don't have too many fishing buddies around here so if any of you ever want to get out then let me know!
  17. Fred is where my old home used to be, now I bought a house in Ladysmith. I fish mostly in my neighborhood as the lakes and ponds are stocked, but am up for getting out anytime.
  18. Hello! I'm from Virginia, about 30 mins North of Richmond. My fishing experience is usually local lakes/ponds, Lake Anna, and the Rappahannock River. I came across this site earlier today while looking up some information and wow is this place helpful, for the last 2 hours I have been reading about and getting useful info. I've only been into fishing for about a year, but nothing is more fun to me than getting out there and catching some, though my catching is limited to the shore right now. I am hoping to get a boat within the next couple of years but getting married in a few months has stopped my boat dreams for now. I still have a lot to learn, when I'm not firefighting, I'm fishing or researching about how to get better. Look forward to meeting some of you here and at some events hopefully. Matt
  19. Hey everyone. I'm new to the forums and figured I would post and see who is around the area. I live in Virginia about 20 minutes from Lake Anna, fairly new to the fishing world only been actively fishing about a year and I enjoy it a lot when I'm not firefighting. Working on getting some type of boat that I can learn in, shore fishing goes only so far where I live. If anyone lives in the area and would ever want to fish with a fairly new angler then by all means let me know! Looking forward to meeting some of you and maybe even getting up to one of these event's BR holds!
