Maryland's Who's who!
Trying to decide between taking the boat below dam #5 or below the power plant at Williamsport to the Potomac Fish and Game Club. Any suggestions? River should finally be manageable for a Saturday morning trip!!!

Maryland's Who's who!
Thanks!! Got out for a few hours yesterday with no luck. Anyone been on the river lately can tell me what the surface temp is? My cheap Lowrance X-4 was reading from 43-44 yesterday, but the Williamsport treatment plant said 49. Wondering how accurate my sonar is.

Planning on hitting the Potomac tomorrow. What has been working well for you guys fishing the river so far this "Spring"?

Maryland's Who's who!
Anyone know how the water level is from Hancock up river towards Cohill Station this time of year? To shallow to run, or OK with a jet? Gauge reads 3.05 this morning. Thinking of motoring up to Cohill Station and fishing my way back down one day this weekend. I grew up in Hancock but haven't taken a boat up past the 522 bridge since I was a kid.

Sleepy Creek Lake, Wv
Did you make it down there?

Maryland's Who's who!
Was out this past Sunday morning above McCoys Ferry and managed 8+ smallmouth between 3 guys. Mostly dinks and all caught on curly tail grubs. Also managed to find a rock with the foot of my 1994 Johnson 50/35 jet at full throttle. Hoping to be back on the water by next weekend.

Maryland's Who's who!
What are you guys having luck with on the Potomac for smallies? Haven't been out for awhile due to weather and just plan being busy. Planning on heading out Sunday morning, picking a buddy up at McCoys Ferry and heading up towards Hancock to fish our way back down.

I'm Not Sure...
I was waiting on someone to say this. I grew up calling them that.

LOL. That's not me. Here is the one that my buddy caught on Sunday at Sleepy Creek Lake. Only bite all day. We did see a few sunning themselves in the shallows, but they weren't interested.

Nice Musky Bill!!! You look to be right below the dam? We duck hunt that area a good bit. I hear alot of guys nail the musky in that area. Hoping the river cooperates after all this rain today. Water temp is getting into the 50's and I need a day off work to fish!!

Sleepy Creek Lake, Wv
Went there yesterday. Managed 1 largemouth a hair over 15". Threw everything we had and caught this one on a white double bladed spinner. The lake itself is nice, with LOTS of structure to fish. Mostly standing timber. It looks like it would get pretty choked up with vegetation though later in the spring/summer. There was a ton of lilly pads, etc. looking ready to overtake the lake. The road in is horrible!!! It's a dirt road with tons of potholes. This stretch of road to get to the lake is about 5 miles and with a boat behind me could only take it about 15-20 mph. It will also cover anything and everything on your boat in clay dust. From my house (Falling Waters) is was closer to 45-50 minutes total travel time to get to the lake. They have 2 gravel ramps and 1 concrete ramp up by the dam. The gravel ramps are fine. The one we used was a little washed out up from the ramp itself. No issues though. We fished from the furthest ramp from the dam up to the dam and back. I plan to go again before the vegetation takes off to fish the other part of the lake we didn't get the chance to yesterday.

Allen - I have not. I know they have one concrete and 2 gravel ramps. But beyond that I have no idea. I can let you know what it's all about after I go there over the weekend.

Thanks everyone!! Planning on giving it a shot this weekend. Would like to chase some smallmouth on the river, but I'm afraid the water is going to go back up with the rain today and tomorrow that they are calling for. Hoping this will end up being a nice backup for me when the river is too high to fish.

Sleepy Creek Lake, Wv
Started this thread in the Northeast forum before I realized West Virginia was in here. Anyway, I'm thinking of heading to Sleepy Creek Lake this weekend since the Potomac is going to be to high for me to fish. Sleepy Creek WMA is only about 20 minutes south of me (Falling Waters) so I figured I'd give it a try to get some fishing in. Never been before. Any tips/hints/tricks I need to consider about the lake itself? I'm not even sure where the boat ramps are, but I'm sure I can figure that out. THANKS!!

I've heard of it before, but never been. A buddy and I are going to give it a go sometime this weekend. At least I'll get the cover off the boat.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Suppose to hold some nice size largemouth

River Smallie Setup
I've yet to see any for myself. Looks like a fun fish to battle though. We did find the head of one late this fall right below the dam while duck hunting. It was impressively big.

Early Spring Fishing
Thanks Snakehead!! I've never specifially targeted walleye, but have caught a few as a kid. When I was out over the weekend the water was near 45. No luck, but it sure was nice to get back out.

River Smallie Setup
I went with the 6' length. I have some family that are pretty big into Muskie fishing. Do pretty good in this area as well. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

Maryland's Who's who!
Got out a bit yesterday before the foul weather hit. Fished from dam #5 down to around Gift rd. before I gave up. Water was 44 degrees. I got skunked. Saw 2 other boats heading up towards the dam. Was nice to finally be back out and test my boat setup for fishing instead of waterfowl hunting. I probably did more farting around than actually fishing though. Anxious for the temps to get back up!!!

River Smallie Setup
Thanks for the tips. I ended up going with the Pflueger President on a Berkeley Lighting Rod, ML. The lighting rod has great reviews and with a Berkeley rebate, I couldn't pass it up. Finally got to use this setup yesterday for the first time. Love it. Not the most expensive setup out there, but quite the improvement from what I'm used to.

Wacky Rigged Senko. Weight Or No?
Thanks!! I'll give both a try when the situation arises.
