  1. so i have used my shimano sustain 2500 fg for 2 seasons now and love the reel. it has always been very strong and smooth and puts up with lots of fishing. i caught many 10-20lb carp, 10lb striper, countless bass, and even a 15lb cownose ray with it. i was fishing last week at a saltwater spot and when i got home i rinsed it like i always do. now i feel slight resistance and grinding with it. i am careful around sand but you never know. i pulled it apart to regrease and clean it up which helped a little, but it isnt the quiet smooth reel i have adored. i feel resistance at specific points when winding it slowly. anyone have any experience here? is it the ball bearings or is it another part that needs replacing? the bearings are sealed but maybe they need to be reopened and greased(just not sure how). i also hear a squeek when i wind the reel but cant imagine what it could be coming from since i regreased and oiled the reel so carefully. all help is appreciated, i would prefer not to send it back to shimano for repair.
  2. me too. i recognized it immediately. since they are invasive, are you supposed to kill them?
  3. lol sorry i got confused and thought this was northeast. lake george is a large lake in upstate ny also. my apologies.
  4. the south end of the lake has a lot of smallmouth. i know some people have lots of luck and others dont. i was advised to use a pumpkin senko wacky rigged for best results. make sure to have your fishing license since they check it often there (just a reminder so you dont forget).
  5. i fish some smaller shallow lakes in upstate ny. i find that crankbaits, spinnerbaits, poppers, and frogs are most successful. just focus on areas near and around cover. make sure you spend most of your time in the mornings and evenings. just keep moving and watch for movement and baitfish. the bass arent usually far behind their food sources.
  6. thank you. i really appreciate it.
  7. was kinda hoping for a few responses... guess i will have to stick to redfishing the outer banks.
  8. i was wondering the same thing.
  9. i have family that moved to greenville so i visit when possible. i was last there in summer 2013 and the river was flooded so i took to some smaller ponds. i was able to get my kayak on there but they appeared to be heavily fished since there was fishing line all over the trees and the largest bass was 12 inches. i am hoping some people here can tell me of better spots and techniques/lures that are more successful. i dont plan to take anyones secret spot since i am there once or twice a year and strictly catch and release. all help is appreciated, especially if they decided to take me out and show me the area. .
  10. i fished this area from the bank, in august, from the drainage pipes behind the mallall the way down to the first overpass whichis surprising that boats can get through. i had no luck but did see a gar, mayan cichlids, and many pleco suckerfish (not carp, they dont have the right mouth to bite anything). it seemed pretty void to me and i walked the bank as far as i could. there has to be better areas. i was fishing the evening and was limited as to how far i could go. no hits but it was one time as i was driving through.
  11. not sure yet. i will have more details as the summer draws and i will be sure to pm you for info on good spots on the lake. right now i need to save up for a fishfinder for my kayak so i can fish new lakes with more confidence.
  12. i was invited to a friends lake house this coming august on Lake Winnipesaukee. i dont know anything about the area and your lake sounds good. maybe when the time gets nearer i can get more info from you. i also have family and fish in greenville nc, not sure if that is near you but if i pass by i would love to learn new places and techniques to fish and i always share mine.

thanks so much. everyone here is very helpful and friendly. i am learning a lot. anyone in the long island, nyc, sullvian and broome county areas? i fish them often.
  14. i fish it in binghamton ny. hooked a rather large tiger muskie once, was an amazing moment of my life. i learned that green mister twisters with a 1/4 oz jighead bounced on the bottom was the most effective. lots of smallmouth bass and walleye. some trout as well as large carp. you never know what will hit your lure. square bills work too.

i am another avid bass angler from NY. not enjoying this miserable winter. thinking of going down to Florida, curious about any reports as well as areas to fish. would gladly trade fishing trips with anyone in Florida. i have a tandem fishing kayak and fish all over NY. friends in south Florida are telling me the spawn is over already. appreciate all info. glad to have found this forum.
