  1. Several years ago I fished with a tournament fisherman. After the day on the water, his comment was, "This is my first time fun fishing in several years." Hell, if it isn't fun, why do it?
  2. Help?
  3. I am interested in learning to throw a cast net, to be used to catch shiners. I borrowed a large net (10 foot), and can barely pick it up, much less throw it. While all the videos make it look easy, it doesn't come easy to me. I would appreciate any suggestions as to size, manufacturer, etc. Thanks, Rob
  4. If you're fishing from the front of the boat, watch your back cast. The guy in the back has a right to his space, without dodging treble hooks.
  5. All my bass over 17 pounds came late at night, in my dreams.
  6. You should fake an interest in other sports, such as golf. Mention to her the cost per round of gold, plus the equipment and the lessons. All of a sudden, fishing is a very cheap sport, by comparison.
  7. There is not, in my opinion, one color that fits all needs. What is good for driving, yellow, is not particularly good on a real bright day for fishing. Sounds like you need to spring for two pair, or go with one of the alternatives. Good luck. BTW, I had cataract surgery several years ago and no longer needed prescription glasses. What a new world that opened up.
  8. Twenty five yards is a good cast, if you are trying to catch fish. If you are going for world record casts, "Lund Explorer," has the right approach. I would stick to catching fish, lots more fun.
  9. She's right. You should pitch it this way. BTW, suggest she pitch her favorite old frying pan and see the reaction. The Ladies, gotta love 'em.
  10. My only traffic citation in the past 40 years was handed to me by a Florida game warden. Speeding. He informed me that he was a sworn law enforcement officer and had the powers of arrest. I told him that an arrest wouldn't be necessary, just write the ticket. I thanked him for his service to Florida wildlife and we then parted ways.
  11. The Stick Marsh. Hundreds of acres, hundreds of bass. In addition, the Stick is always a boating adventure due to the high number of hidden stumps. A great fishing site.

What size hooks do you use and recommend? I am thinking of texas rigs and weightless worming. I have always tended to use either 4.0 or 5.0 hooks, either EWG or offset worm hooks. Thanks, Bob
  13. What version of the Go Pro are you using? I just ordered the, "White," model for my grandson. I plan to borrow it. Looks good,. And, nice fish. Bob
  14. Every fisherman should see this video, just as a reminder of the awesome power of lightning. It has served as a good reminder for me.
  15. If you like good freshwater and saltwater fishing, low taxes and lousy schools, choose Florida. On the other hand, don't come to Florida. We are already overpopulated. Try Minnesota, please. :>
  16. I have caught bass in Florida lakes with plastic snakes, the 18 inch type. Not often, but it does happen. If you really want to have some fun, put one of those 18 inchers on a weighted line and let it sink to the bottom. The snake is continually attacked when pulled along the bottom. Pop, pop, pop...
  17. Thank you all. Best wishes, Bob
  18. A 12+ foot gator, on the end of my line. Toughest hook set I've ever had. The amazing thing is that he dragged the boat for probably several hundred yards, without breaking the line. I finally cut him loose. At the Stick Marsh in central Florida.
  19. I am a long time bass fishing fanatic, who will fish any time, any lake. Living in Winter Haven, I have access to the Winter Haven Chain, the Kissimmee Chain, various phosphate pits, as well as local lakes. My favorite tackle box is Ron's Tackle Box in Lake Alfred, my favorite reels are Shimano, my favorite rods are St. Croix. Although I have caught probably several thousand bass, I am still looking for my first double digit fish. The hunt continues. Bob
