How often do you fish?
I fish the same local river every time I go fishing, though where I fish on the river will change. March - November I fish about once a week, either Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes I can get out on both days. December - February it really depends on the weather and the water temp. Last fish I caught was December 24th and I've only been fishing twice since then.

Susquehanna river in PA
I have nothing technical to add, the above members have you covered and it sounds like your uncle knows how to catch them. I've only fished the Susquehanna once (in April 2016) and the first smallie I caught is still my PB at 19". It's the fish in my avatar.

Baitcasting Combo Question
If you can spend another $20 I'd seriously look at a BPS Carbonlite combo. $120 for the combo during the spring sale. Great combo for that price!

Small Mouth jigging rod
Welcome to Bass Resource! I don't really have a rod recommendation. Just thought I'd welcome you to the Forum, ask a couple questions and get your question bumped up all at the same time! What type and size of line are you using? What type of jig? Shakey head? Skirted jig? Does 3/16 oz jig mean the head weight of the jig? Or the total weight? (I recently discovered the 3/16 ounce skirted jigs I use actually weigh 3/8 ounce with skirt, hook and trailer!) Are you fishing open water, moderate cover, heavy cover? Weeds? Wood? Rock? The more information you can give, the better suggestions you will get from members. Good luck on your rod search!

Thoughts on Seaguar Red Label fluorocarbon
@Burro I replied to this original post back in 2016 and my opinion of Red Label in 10# test still hasn't changed. For the Walmart price of $11/200yd spool it's the best economy FC out there. I can spool my small baitcasting reel twice and still have some line left over to use for leaders on my spinning rod. I use KVD L&L and have NEVER seen any memory issues or line management problems. However, I've never used 12# or 15#, only 10#. The only complaint I have is Red Label isn't very abrasion resistant so I check my line and retie often if necessary.

Cool Fishing t-shirts
Yup. Or just spend hundreds of dollars at Tackle Warehouse and they will give you one of their shirts for (cough!) free.

Your favorite Jig for $3.50 or less?
X2 I buy them online for $1.79 so I can buy almost 2:1 to your $3.50 jig. They only go up to 1/4 ounce though so you are limited with jig weight.

Potomac Near Harper's Ferry?
Google is telling me that Knoxville, WV is near Wheeling, WV in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. That puts it about 4 hours away from Harpers Ferry, WV which is located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

Best line conditioner??
Yo BigTerp! I don't use a cloth when respooling. I fill the spool halfway and spray it with KVD L&L, then again at 3/4 full, and finally when it is completely full. The night before fishing trips I will spray the spool liberally and let it dry overnight.

BPS stores
I have 2 BPS stores about 90 minutes from me and I get to one of them about one time a year. I usually don't have anything specific to buy (though I usually buy something). I go because the sight of all that fishing stuff just makes me giggle like a kid on X-mas morning.

casting mechanics
When I was learning to cast a baitcaster I watched a bunch of videos. In one the instructor took his wallet out of his back pocket and placed it in the armpit of his casting arm. He stressed keeping your arms/elbows close to your body when casting overhand, and if the wallet fell to the ground during the cast it showed you weren't using proper casting form.

Scouting
I use river gauges on the internet to "scout" my local river. The river level will tell me if I can safely wade or if I will need to bank fish. If wading, the temp tells me if I will wear shorts, or waders, or waders with warm layers underneath. The river level forecast tells me if the river level is steady or going up or going down and from that I can judge (from past experience) how clear or muddy the water will be.

casting mechanics
I always cast 2-handed with both casting and spinning rods. If I try to cast one-handed it feels as awkward as my one-handed casting buddy looks...

Great American Outdoor Show
I've been a couple times and it's HUGE! I'm not a hunter and to be honest I found the Fishing Hall to be a little underwhelming. But two years ago I watched Jeff Kriet and Bobby Uhrig give seminars in the Hawg Tank and that was fun.
