  1. Thanks guys! I had no idea they didn't bed. I guess that answers my bed fishing question!! We don't have striper or white bass in that lake, or any in the area. Does that mean they would be completely sterile? Or could two functionally sterile hybrids reproduce?
  2. I didn't see the question asked anywhere, and I didn't see a biology related section, so please move this if necessary! Do wipers or any other hybrid bass species which are sterile spawn like their fertile counterparts? Obviously they don't reproduce, and that's why they were introduced in this particular lake, but I thought there may be a chance they still follow the spawning patterns of bedding and all that. I"m trying to figure out if they may be bed fished next year or not!
  3. It looks like a simplified version of that, minus the key! I was thinking I could stick with a smaller gauge wire, and just run relay switch so that it only required a small amount of current to actuate the relay, completing the circuit on the starter. Sound like a decent plan? I've also joined tinboats and learned a lot from reading those forums!!
  4. Here's a few photos of it! I'm not sure what do do about the whole steering/controls area. I'm kind of tempted to move that elsewhere so my front deck can be a little bigger. Some of the front deck is going to be lost to the trolling motor mounting surface, but I'll do a battery bank underneath there for my 3 batteries. I want to get some weight up front since it's kind of back end heavy now.
  5. Draining the tank is definitely not the way to go. Fill the tank to the top and add stabil. Not having any dead air space will prevent condensation from being introduced to the tank, and will help prevent fuel breadown and water introduction. This info comes from textbooks when I was taking small engine mechanics a few years ago.
  6. Not a bad idea for a key! I'll get some pics tonight when I get home.
  7. Easy enough! I'll pull the cover and start looking into it tonight.
  8. Thinking in regular small engine terms, as I'm not very familiar with outboards, so forgive me if this isn't even a viable option. Would it be easier to change the starter solenoid to not use the push buttons on the motor, but to wire them directly to a momentary switch on the dash?
  9. I'm hoping someone on here has an older boat, or some knowledge on them! I have an older Evinrude (25 I think?) with push button start and stops on it. However, they are on the engine, so I have to climb back there, push them, then come back up to the steering wheel to drive, then back there again to stop the motor. Is there any way to add a cable system or some type of conversion to make the engine start and stop from the cockpit rather than physically on the motor? I was thinking of something similar to a camera's plunger type shutter release made to thread over each button, and then having the controls on the dash. I'm not sure if they make something like that or if it's up to me to engineer! Thanks in advance, Zach
  10. A good day for me at Quail is one! I don't know why, but I just can't get that lake figured out. Everything I've caught has been during spring in the inlet, never in the main body of the lake. I've seen some people that kill it there, and will go 15+ with 3 fish, but I usually can't even get a baby!
  11. This is spot on! Sand Hollow for numbers and a few bass down deeper, and Quail for the lunkers if you have the patience.
  12. I'm heading out on a work trip once again, and am curious as to whether there is any fishing there this time of year! I'm coming from 40-70 degree days lately to 0-30, and not really sure what to expect. I'm going out on a limb and assuming all the lakes in the area will be frozen. Are the rivers slow enough moving that they are frozen as well? Is there anything to really be fished out there this time of year, bass or otherwise??
  13. Something that you may already know, but I haven't seen mentioned yet, is that the fish can be released and a good mold still made. Many artists will have a list of measurements and photos they need, and they will make them look nearly identical! I only bring it up because the OP was about using the actual fish/skin.
  14. Scuba weights may also be an option that are available used!
  15. I really liked Vicious. I loved the price, and it casts much better than any others I've tried. I haven't had the best luck with P-Line. I didn't like the way it casts, and it seems to hold quite a bit of memory. On top of that, I kept have my line break! This could be due to an old spool at the local Sportsman's, but either way it hasn't left a good taste in my mouth.
  16. Why are there so many flukes made that are clear with different colors of sparkle, but no senkos? Is it the sink rate that you mentioned, or another reason?
  17. Another that's not on your list is the Ram Cats. They fly spot on with my field tips, and have a huge cutting surface. Not sure what you're hunting, but they are great on larger game like elk, mule deer, etc. My only complaint is getting them to fit all the way into a quiver!!
  18. I had a decent bull elk get directly down wind from me last year, and never spooked or ran after completely circling where we were sitting (and no, not during the rut!). I was VERY impressed with how well the scent eliminator worked, as I was very skeptical of it beforehand. I was using Dead Down Wind when that happened, and have tried others with less success. Staying downwind is always your best bet, but as most know, it isn't always possible!
  19. This was a site that helped me a lot when I was on the market for a few! They do unbiased, comprehensive reviews of pretty much every camera out there. I was really surprised how some cameras from a certain company would shine, and others rated so horribly! That being said, I went with the StealthCam and couldn't be happier with it. Amazing trigger times and a good flash, enough so that I usually have quite a few birds flying by when I check my pics! http://www.trailcampro.com/trailcamerareviews.aspx
  20. The power worms? They had a bunch of them on clearance at Cabela's in Boise when I was in there two weeks ago.
  21. I don't know if it's the same in tacklemaking, but in pouring bullet molds heating the mold will help with this!
  22. I'd like to hear the story on that one!!
  23. Is it possible to post the spreadsheet on here as an image? I think with as much interest as there is, that may be a good idea. If you aren't able to do it, pm me and I'll get it turned into a link or photo on this thread if that's okay with you!
  24. I ended up going out and hitting the banks at a few local lakes and rivers, and made some good friends! Lake Lowell was a real good time, close by, and had a lot of friendly people willing to give recommendations on what and where to fish!
  25. I will be working in Boise from 8/11 through the end of the week. Anyone heading out that would like their fuel paid for??
