  1. How can you say they suck? The recent Bassmasters tourney that VanDam won, the guy that took second fished a chatterbait for 3 days. It's been very successful on tour. I have great success with it in the right conditions. It doesn't catch fish when nothing else does, but really, what lure does. That's the lure I choose when I'm searching for aggressive fish.
  2. Do you guys think you catch more fish using flourocarbon lines. I know it's difficult to actually test this, but just wanting some opinions. I've been using stricly flourcarbon lines and maybe a braided line if the situation calls for it. I have been doing well with it, but was thinking about trying some of the less expensive quality mono lines out there. Any opinions on suffix elite line. I use a variety of reel combos including 3 spinning reels and 4 casting reels. Any recommendations for either? Thanks for the help.
  3. Trying to learn this technique. My question is how do you locate the fish before you start fishing for them vertically. I have a Lowrance Depth finder and I can find good structure, but it doesn't alway show fish holding tight to cover. Do you drift while fishing it vertical or anchor in a spot that's holding. Is it only for when fish are in tight schools and you can find them. I want to learn it, but I'm just trying to imagine how this can be more efficient then casting and hitting multiple spots. Thanks for the help?
  4. For some reason the electrical box for my hitch keeps shorting out. The first time it did it the moment I first hooked up the trailer to my hitch. The second time it did it, it worked fine for 2 months. Any ideas why this is happening. I don't want to get stuck several hours from home with a shorted out hitch wiring. U Haul put the hitch in and is using the box that my Saturn Vue called for, but the thing keeps shorting out. Could the wiring on the trailer be bad, or have something to do with water getting into the lights on my trailer. I'm not much of a electrical guy, but am getting frustrated replacing the hitch wiring every month.
  5. It's possible, but I doubt it just because of the time of year. Most spawning has been done and I live in the north. It dependes on the water temperature in the pond you fish. Could actually see fish on beds? They were probably in the shallows feeding and very aggressive
  6. Here in Michigan 5lb is big, 6lb is real big, anything bigger is huge. Very few 7lbers caught, but once in a great while you'll hear of an 8,9, or 10. State record 11-15 caught through the ice.
  7. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm looking to learn this technique, but not really sure where or when I should choose this over any other technique. Thanks in advance for the help. 1. Do I use a floating plastic lure so it rides up higher than the bottom, or a regular and drag the lure on the bottom? 2. What time of bottom cover am I looking for and what depth range? (in weeds, edges of weeds, gravel bars, rocks) 3. What is the retrieve most commonly used? (hopping, steady retrieve) Anything else I should know about it?
  8. Do you guys switch tactics once the water temp reaches above 80 degrees. I've read that bass feed less and hold deeper once the water gets that warm. I am still able to find bass in the shallows, but they all seem to be small. What tactics to you guys use when the water temp gets warm. I know Jig n Pigs are great in deeper water. Any other ideas.
  9. Went out bowfishing last week and saw hundreds of smallmouth males on beds. My question is do the males come in first then the females. We did not see one big female. All were males in the 9-15 inch range. My second question is how will this cold rainy weather effect the spawn. Will the drop in water temp pull the bass back off the beds and continue to feed, or will they stay on and wait until the right temp.
