  1. I will probably have a few other combos soon as well....have a Metanium mgl b and bantam mgl - but prefer the feel of daiwas so those may get sold going to order some senkos tonight
  2. ive got both casting and spinning.....my spinning combos are a Shimano sustain fj4000 on a 7ft m/f fx custom extreme angler rod, I also have a shimano stradic on a 7ft mh/f bass pro carbonlite....casting i have a couple 7ft to 7ft2 Mh/F w/daiwa tatulas
  3. My goal this season is to finally learn how to fish soft plastics - if you had to put together a "kit" for someone new to fishing them, what would you include? What baits/size of baits, what hooks, etc.
  4. I suppose ill try it as a do it all rod and see how it is....Ive got a dobyns champion extreme HP as well im going to try in addition to the xtasy. im out of it this morning - when you say middle range are you referring to the rod's power/action ratings?
  5. Yeah holy crap I’ve seen a lot of variations
  6. Yeah I was thinking I’d use it as an all a round rod…I’m told Dobyns actions are usually a step down from what’s listed on the rod? Or at least they fish like it?
  7. Tatula elite owners/users….how do you like them? Is the casting distance that much better?
  8. Looking at the Dobyns Xtasy DRX724c heavy/fast action casting rod….my understanding is that we’re designed as more of a bottom contact/jig/etc rod? Wondering if this model would also do well as a spinnerbait rod with some bladed jig/chatterbait use as well? Will be my most expensive/high end rod by far…but curious to see if I can tell the difference between that and what I’ve used in the past
  9. Every new Shimano I’ve bought has done the same thing now that I think of it Will probably try this as well
  10. I didn’t think so…will try the spool tension knob as well!
  11. Excuse my ignorance, but I’ve got a brand new Metanium MGL B and a new Bantam MGL ….and I can’t get them to free spool much, just a few spool rotations….going to try playing with the brakes a bit….any suggestions if that doesn’t work? Can’t say I’ve had this with Daiwa or abu Garcia….not a huge deal and not knocking either reel….just trying to learn!
  12. Already hinting “that we don’t really need it this year as the kids are older and don’t care for it”
  13. Yeah, may step down to 15 or 17….or braid like you said! Either way I have an excuse to buy another reel!
  14. It’s a 12hr drive or so from Wisconsin to Lake Chautauqua in New York, and I’ve got a wife and two toddlers lol…trust me I’m going to try and squeeze a couple more rods in!!! It’s not so much the amount of rods, but being able to safely pack/protect them from damage
  15. 20/25 lb Tatsu too much for a Metanium MGL B? The Metaniums don’t have a ton of line capacity but I’ve heard Tatsu runs pretty thin compared to other lines…which seems to be true when researching line diameters
  16. That’s pretty much what I’m hearing everywhere….trying to decide/figure out if I can get enough 20lb Tatsu on my Metanium MG***or it to work well…not a ton of line capacity on the Metanium, but Tatsu is pretty thin compared to other lines (or so I’m told)
  17. Kind of the conclusion I’m coming to, wondering if 20lb Tatsu would work ok with a Metanium MGL b as the Metanium doesn’t have a ton of line capacity
  18. That’s basically what I’d be using my set up for….anxious to try it
  19. Silly question…are there standard line diameters that reel manufacturers use when they list line capacity for reels?
  20. Thinking about the 20lb Tatsu myself…wondering how many yds I can get on my Metanium!
  21. Debating on not doing braid at all at the moment….definitely doing tatsu if I do fluoro though….I’m probably overthinking it…for what it’s worth the lake we’re going to has a lot of weed beds and Lilly pads (lots of Lilly pads in between the docks …kind of why I wanted the heavier fluoro/mono
  22. Struggling with line choices….trying to prepare for spring and a 2+ week fishing vacation at the end of may….at minimum I will be bringing two baitcasting combos and one spinning combo… Casting combo 1: Shimano Metanium MGL B/Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 704 H/F (split grip) Casting combo 2: Shimano Bantam MGL/a custom built 7ft MH/F rod Spinning combo: Shimano Sustain FJ 4000/Dobyns Champion XP 7ft MH/F (I know I don’t necessarily need the 4000 size) I was thinking of doing 15-20LB fluorocarbon on the first casting combo, 12-20lb mono on the 2nd casting combo, and then I’m trying to decide between braid or fluoro on the spinning combo….shooting for versatility as I won’t have a ton of room for fishing gear…thoughts? Suggestions? Excuse my ignorance lol…just trying to put more effort into preparation and learning this season!
  23. I just wanted a do it all spinning rod…I’ve already got that covered with casting gear…just picked up a split grip Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 704….the spinning rod will probably mostly be used for soft plastics…but typically I only bring 1 or two rods with me when fishing (mostly from docks or banks) so versatility is important to me This does play a role! Idk I just like versatility…and I’m not a good enough fisherman quite yet to have a need for technique specific rods….need to bet getter with spinning gear as well! It definitely happens!
  24. Used to up on all the latest and greatest, but not as much over the last few years - what are the best/better braided lines out there right now? Power Pro? Suffix? Something else? If it matters....i'd be using the braid as a mainline with no leader.
  25. Went with a Dobyns Champion XP 704 for the new “do it all spinning rod”….anxious to see how it fishes! Anyone else have one of these???
