Kentucky Lake Fishing Guides?
Can anyone give me a recommendation for a quality guide on Kentucky Lake? My buddy's birthday is coming up and I would like to hire a bass fishing guide for us as a gift. I am looking for someone who does full days (8 hrs atleast) and will provide all the rods and tackle. If anyone knows of a skilled, reliable, and friendly guide they can recommend it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Colin

Cutting Weedguards Off Jigs
Does anyone completely cut off the weedguards on their jigs? Not trimming them but getting rid of the whole thing.

Summer "cold" Fronts
The temps in my area have been consistently reaching the 90s, but the forecasts are calling for temps in the mid 70's this whole week. Overnight lows are around 60 degrees. There is also a lot of rain in the forecast with some severe thunderstorms in the mix. Im curious what effect these summer "cold fronts" have on the fishing?

Dang You Gary Yamamoto! - And Dang You Thieves!
Agree with the post above. I rarely use Yamamoto Senkos anymore. There are knockoffs that are much more durable and catch just as many fish.

Good Bass Ponds Near Arvada?
first, register for this website.... http://www.fishexplorer.com/co/ Ask around on the forums on fishexplorer. People will give you some of the more well known spots, but don't expect to get any honey holes on there. Make sure to tell them you are a catch and release angler. Bass fisherman in Colorado take this very seriously. I would suggest you try Standley Lake. There are some nice smallies in that lake and you can catch them from shore easily enough. Just find a rocky bank and throw a texas rig anything. I had some pretty good ponds around the Boulder area, but I moved away right before the floods. If I had to guess I would say most of them do not even exist anymore.

Favorite Conditions For Bass
I love fishing in the rain. As long as there is no lighting with it...

Let's Hear Some Shallow Pond Topwater Tactics
In a pond most of your bites will come right off the bank. Try casting down the bank instead of just straight out.

Will Bass Eat Crayfish/crawdad Baits Even If They Are Not The Natural Forage Of The Lake Or Pond?
In my experience they most definitely will.

All The Sudden Cant Hook Fish With Big Worms
I fished for about 5 hours on Sunday and only got two fish to the boat. I must have lost or just flat out missed 15 fish. It was early and I didnt have my coffee, so Im just gonna blame it on that....It happens, I wouldnt worry about it. Just continue to fish with confidence. I went out this morning and didnt lose a single fish.

Jig Fishing Questions
I fish a small lake (about 300 acres) that is mostly devoid of cover. There is sparse rock, and some fallen timber and brush piles, but mostly on or very near the bank. There are a lot of docks, but most of these sit in shallow water as well. The bottom of the lake is pretty much all soft mud. There is very little noticeable off shore structure either. The main structure on the lake is a few steep banks, some points, a dam with some rip rap that drops off fairly quickly, and a ton of flats and gradual sloping banks. The lake is 60 feet at its deepest point. The main forage is shad, bluegill, and crawfish. The lake also holds crappie, and catfish. Although it may not seem like the ideal bass fishing lake, it is a very productive lake, and I have caught fish up to 8 lbs. The average fish is probably 1-2 lbs, but there are a ton of 3-4 pounders as well. I have been trying to learn to fish a jig this summer, but I have yet to catch a single fish on one. I have been using mainly natural colored 1/2 ounce football jigs on 15 lb floro, and dragging it slowly on the bottom. Every once in a while ill give it a couple hops, or stroke it, but mostly I'm just dragging it. As I mentioned before there is hardly any cover, so it feels like I am just dragging the jig through muck. Occasionally Ill bring it over something hard, and then I really try to slow down, or even shake the jig in place. I assume dragging it on the bottom, even where there is no cover, is kicking up some mud. I would think this should attract some fish, but I just can't buy a bite on the jig. I'll refish the same exact areas with a texas rig worm, or even a texas rig craw imitation, and I will often catch 3 or 4 fish right away. I live on the lake so I fish it practically every day. I know I am fishing in productive areas and at the proper depths. Based on all the information I gave above, can anyone give me any tips? Is there another style jig I should be using besides the football head? I know football heads are meant for dragging over rocks, but I figured since Im fishing deep and on the bottom they should work in my lake too. Should a jig always be fished in cover, and therefore is not a suitable presentation on a lake like mine? Any opinions or advice is much appreciated.

To All My Memphis Pond Hoppers!
Hello everyone, Im new to this site, as well as Memphis. Im a recent transplant from Colorado. I moved out here about the same time the weather started getting really cold so I have not had much of a chance to figure out the area. I just wanted to thank everyone for the wealth of information on this thread. Now that the weather has turned I plan to start hitting some of the ponds previously mentioned. I was a member of a similar website in Colorado and you could not pry people's bass ponds out of their dead hands. Needless to say good bass fishing in Colorado is hard to come by. If anyone wants to show someone new to the area the ropes, or just needs a new fishing buddy please let me know. I am a catch & release angler and I always treat the places I fish with respect. My personal best bass is just over 5 lbs (a true monster in Colorado) but I hope to change that soon! Looking forward to meeting some of you out there. Colin P.S I have a 15 ft jon boat that I am currently working on registering, as well as access to one of the private lakes in town. If anyone has some spots they are reluctant to give up I am more than willing to make a trade. Don't worry, I can keep a secret.
