  1. Ditch the swivel, no need for it at all when fishing a Senko and this eliminates the other knot. You are on the real light side when fishing weeds with this bait. Is the water gin clear or something? If you have a lot of heavy grass and weeds to pull fish out of you need to get another rig, bait caster or bigger spinning reel with braid and posibly a heavy florocarbon leader if water is really clear. That is a whole new deal.
  2. Jeff H , I have casted a New Zillion then a Tatula with the same bait and same rod and line. With the TWS system now in the Zillion it will out distance every reel out there I believe. The spool completely disengages on the Zillion when the bar is pressed, It was 25 feet further than the Tatula and it casts the country mile. The Zillion was a factory proto type but pretty sure production reel. Didn't get to see if the Zillion will cast micro baits like the Tatula will but probably will.
  3. Tatula, it will out cast the old Zillion and is a little lighter. The new Zillion will outcast, distance wise, theTatula. All three are great reels just the Tatula at $149 retail is the deal. Great reel and will cast really light baits in the wind with ease.
  4. Daiwa Exceller 6.3 ret. and the most expensive rod you can afford, but try it first. The rod is more important IMHO if you get a good decent Baitcaster to go with it. The new Exceller is a really good reel with great big brass gears and lots of drag, $99.
  5. Yes, Halo in 10 is way to stiff for a 2500 size spin reel, Halo is different from their regular soft floro as it has added abrasion element and a light green color designed to take the flash off floro. I like 20 Samuri Daiwa braid with 8lb Halo leader for drop shot, shakey head. Wacky soft plastics. Try 6 Halo or 8 reg soft fluorocarbon. I use 15 to 20 Halo on Jigs depending on the size and cover I'm fishing, great line really strong.
  6. Thanks for the advise, I will let you know. Funny how they went over. I had hung up a frog on braid and broke it off and after retrieving the frog in the cover I put the rod on the deck with my others. Later Decided to call it a day and head for home. When I stepped on the gas first one rod went flying back and out the another one. I stopped the boat to see that last one sink behind me. .?? What I later realized what had happened is the reel with the braid was infree spool and the line had drifted behind the boat. When I stepped on the gas the line got in the big motor prop and all hell broke loose. Fortunately I had done this is 10 FT of water next to a boat dock so after dragging around with treble hooks and a weighted cord found both , 2 Loomis rods and Tatula R on them. Sorry for the long story, But in 35 plus years never heard of this happening fishing.
  7. I like P Lime Halo but it's more stretchy than the braid I use which is Daiwa Samurai. Can't break the 20# Halo.
  8. I had two G Loomis rods go over board Yesterday and after dragging for them for three hours got them both back aboard. Yipee!! Cleaned the reels but the rods wrappings are white. Anyone have any experience with this, do you let them dry out on their own with time or you spray something on them like silicone? I don't know still white with water spots.
  9. They are good selling reels but made in the same factory as Abu, not their own. Some Parts interchange I'm told.
  10. This is my set up and I have very few if any breakages. Largest fish to date was last spring at 9lb 6. 20 pound Samuri braid to 8 lb Pline halo fluorocarbon with a double surgeons knot. 1/0 Gama Glock worm hook, palomar with about a 8 to 10 inch leader 1/8 oz weight. I fish a wacky style baby senko type worm most of the time. Them some times use a full size and remove the weight. I retie the braid to leader every day if I'm catching a lot. The thing is when reeling in a fish a lot of time the weighted leader is spinning around the whole rig, literally some times it takes 2 or three minutes to untangle the whole mess. Most of the time the leader will be pulled through the worm. That's why I use 8LB. My line doesn't twist at all in the set up for some reason. Good luck.
  11. The TD Fuego has been gone for a couple of years, get a Tatula $149 list price, I have four and they made all my others outdated.
  12. You could special order one of the Icast show last year, had red and a yellow.
  13. The 855 is plenty of power (5) for that size af Crankbait and even a little larger.
  14. Definitely get the TAT it is a great reel. The Exceller was redesigned completely for 2014 and retails around $100. What color was the $50 Exceller? If it was silver that is a 2013 model. If Balck with large cranking knobs it is a 2014. The 2014 is a better reel than 2013.
  15. I used to carry side cutters and force the end and barb of the hook out then cut it off and release the fish. Now I mash the bard down smooth, never lose any and it actually makes hooking the fish easier. I don't de barb Jigs or lure hooks just worm or plastic hooks.
