Hammer JAK vs Elite rods
Has anyone used both the JAK and Elite rods? I'm a fan of the Elite rods. I was going to purchase a couple more, but I'm curious about the JAK rods. Are they the same blanks?

Help choosing a Garmin unit?
Thank you. I had skipped over that video previously because I thought it was all smaller units. But now I see they make a 1222 - which seems to be what I would want.

Help choosing a Garmin unit?
I currently run only Lowrance on my boat. I want to add Garmin LiveScope. I am having a hard time figuring out which unit I should buy. I can find any good comparison charts or anything. I will ONLY use this new unit for LiveScope - nothing else. I want a 12" screen, and it needs to work with polarized sunglasses. I don't really care if it is touchscreen or not. The 8 series has a 1920x1080 resolution, but will that make any difference in LiveScope? I don't want to spend $3,000 on a unit if I can get the same quality picture and everything I need in a $2,000 unit. At the same time, I don't mind spending $3,000 if it is significantly better than a $2,000 unit for LiveScope. I would really appreciate any help.

FG Knot slipping
I use the FG on all of my spinning rods. It's always 10lb braid to 8-10lb fluoro. I make 20 wraps (20 on each side). Never had a problem with slipping.

Poll: Best Chatterbait Rod
Not on your list, but the Hammer 7'3 Heavy is what I use for chatterbaits, and I love it.

Wife said I need to tether it to my wrist!!

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
I can barely dive 10ft, much less 20!

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
Took the same reel to Harbor Freight, and the magnet doesn't stick to it at all. I also tried the heavier 250lb magnet, and no luck with that either. Too much plastic in the reel. That tells me what I need to know. That's how I feel about my 854.

Is buying a Shimano reel from Japan on EBay ok??
oops. Replied to wrong thread. Ignore.

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
You're probably right. Worth a shot though. I can post GPS coordinates if someone else wants to take a stab at it! Finders keepers! hahaha

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
That's actually not a bad idea. The place I dropped it in is pretty narrow, and I know right where it should be. I may swing by HF tonight, buy that magnet, and go back tomorrow. Supposed to be raining all day, and that lake is an hour away, but it's worth a shot. I hate to lose the reel more than the rod.

looking for new jig rod. NRX 894 balance?
Well, I dropped my custom jig rod in the lake today. Oops. I was 20ft deep and in bushes/timber. I dragged treble hooks for 2 hours and was never able to snag it. I broke off a ton of treble hooks and heavy tungsten weights. Ouch. So... I'm looking for a new rod to pitch jigs. Mostly 3/8oz + trailer. Sometimes a 1/2oz + trailer. Tossing them at laydowns, stumps, bushes, etc. I wouldn't call it heavy cover. Not much real grass where I normally fish, and I already have heavier rods I can use for that when necessary Can anyone over any thoughts on how the NRX 894 balances? I have other NRX casting rods - 852, 853, 854, 873, and 893. Out of those, the 854 is by far my least favorite. It feels heavy to me and I find it difficult to pitch with. I keep my 873 rigged for carolina rig always, so I'm not interested in using that as my jig rod. The 893 feels a little overpowered with even a 3/8 jig if I add a bulky trailer. Does the NRX 894 balance similarly to the 854? I don't have a local place to feel it next to my 854. I love the sensitivity of my other NRX rods, but can't decide whether to get the 894 or go with another custom build.

which Dobyns spinning rod?
I am looking to pick up a Dobyns Champion Extreme spinning rod. I already have a custom lighter rod that I use only for Neko, another that I only use for dropshot, and I have a NRX 852s that I use for a little heavier stuff. I'm just looking for something in the middle for an extra rod. Uses: Ned rig Neko rig Shakeyheads Split shot plastics Finesse swimbaits (ex. 1/8oz 3.8" Keitech) (I don't really want the extra length of the 742) I'm leaning towards the 703, but is it capable of throwing the lighter stuff (Ned rigs, etc)?

anyone NOT like tungsten jigs for fishing brush?
For those who have switched to tungsten jigs, how do you like them for fishing around brush piles? Either offshore stuff or lay-downs in shallow water... Does the smaller head keep it from getting hung up in limbs? Or does it make it get hung up more? Also, how do the smaller heads of tungsten jigs work for skipping? (assuming its a good head shape for skipping). I'm looking at buying a bunch of new jigs from Siebert - and the price of the tungsten ones is pretty reasonable. I'm just trying to determine if they really do have a benefit, or if there is anyone out there with a good reason for not liking them.

Cost to ship a rod?
I have shipped several rods recently, all via USPS Priority. None cost more than $15. All were in a round cylinder. Make sure to cut the cylinder as short as you can and still safely pack the rod. I had one a couple of weeks ago to mail from TN to PA. It was going to be over $110. I said no way... can't be. She checked it multiple times, and it was showing the same price. I said "what if it's 3 inches shorter?". That dropped it to $14. Made no sense to me, but I left and trimmed the tube down.

NRX 822s vs Megabass Addermine
I am looking to add another spinning rod. I used to never fish them, but round myself using them a good bit last year. I have a NRX 852s that I use for weightless senkos and shaky heads. I have a Lews Dropshot rod that I'm not entirely crazy about. I am looking for a rod for drop shot, ned rigs, and other similar stuff. My drop shotting is almost always casting and dragging. I very rarely fish vertically. I have another custom spinning rod that was built specifically for Ned rigs... but I plan on fishing BFL's as a co-angler this year so I'm looking for something that would best compliment the 852 so I don't have to carry more than 2 spinning rods. Any thoughts on the NRX 822s DSR or the Addermine for these purposes? I can't get my hands on either before buying them. Is one a little stronger than the other? One more whippy? Appreciate any feedback... I'm also open to any other suggestions.

anyone use Rod Warrior neoprene covers?
Thanks for the reply. That's about all I need to know!

anyone use Rod Warrior neoprene covers?
I had Rod Glove covers, and had a lot of problems with eyes poking through (and I had the micro Glives for my rods with micro guides). Just a matter of time until one gets caught on something and broken off b I was going to replace them all with Rod Warrior neoprene covers. I decided to order just one cover first to make sure I like it. It's $8 for shipping just one cover. I don't really want to do that. Looking for any feedback on Rod Warrior or anything else that may work better than Rod Glove.

Tungsten jigs
Does anyone have a favorite brand of tungsten flipping jigs? I have been looking for some, but all of the ones I see seem to have smaller hooks than the same weight of a lead jig.

Hook for larger swimbaits
Can anyone recommend a hook/head for swimbaits in the 7" range? I purchased some LedgeHead 8/0 heads, but they have a screw/spring keeper, and I don't see how you're supposed to get the swimbaits on without tearing it to pieces. I'm having trouble finding anything else with large enough hooks. I have some 10/0 and 12/0 Owner weighted Beast. I just wondered if it would be better fishing with a standard jig headed hook that is more exposed.

GLX handle modification
This isn't the same, but I have sanded the cork foregrip on my NRX casting rods. Like you said, the cork wasn't as thick as I expected, but removing even 3/16" made a difference.

Loomis for wacky Senko
My favorite casting rod for Senkos is the NRX 852. I have the 893 also, and like it a lot, but I use it more for Texas rigged stuff. I just really like the way the 852 casts and feels. It loads up nicely and even though it's a 2 power, it has enough backbone for my type of fishing. If you want the extra length, the NRX 893 is an outstanding rod that wouldn't be disappointed in. I use my NRX 852S for Senkos more than anything.

Recommend a punching rod?
I have several rods for fishing jigs and creatures, but I don't have anything on the heavier side for punching. Can anyone help recommend a rod? As far as budget goes... I don't want to say it's doesn't matter - but I'm willing to spend on a good rod. I'm just looking for something capable of pitching the heavier tungsten weights in to mats/weeds and getting a fish out effectively. I already have some extra reels to use (probably a Chronarch MG). Any experience with the Dobyns Champion XP flipping rods? My only experience with Dobyns is limited to a couple of Fury heavy rods I had. They were tip heavy and I didn't like them. Other recommendations?
