  2. I take your Garmin is a Echomap (new/old version) with Down and Side imaging..?? And you were just using the Active Captain app connect the glasses to the unit...?? This I would be interested in as like you my eyesight is getting worst by the day it seems.. From what little I've seen/watched on guys using FFS the frequently moving of the transducer by using the TM to pin point the targeted fish deep and direction it's looking /moving is why you know see 2-3 transducers on the front of boat and 2 more on the back shooting to boat sides of boat. Along with trolling now also being mounted the Power Poles. (Professional boats) That's why just the electronic cost of these guys boats if $50k+ .
  3. Well it's differently cheaper fishing from the bank... And with gas prices going back up over the stupid per gallon mark is not help cost per fish avg...lol But that's another reason why I don't have FFS. Cost is the biggest reason, with not the way I want to fish. But then you realize how much time is needed to really learn and understand how to use it and be good at using it is differently not how I want to spend days on the water.
  4. Don't want this to be a thread about if FFS should be banned or not, or if it's good or bad for bass fishing. Would like to see what everybody's thoughts are on Augmented Reality Glasses that will link to your FFS unit, and hopefully regular sonar units, which projects the screen onto your glasses while still allowing you normal vision. And what you think the price of the glasses will be compared to 12" - 16" and now there's a 22" screen. There AR glasses that you can already link to a phone or tablet that can watch HD video / play games or just roam the good old inter-web. The price like everything else ranges from $49 to $4k on Amazon. There is a Elite Series Pro who "engineered" a working pair himself over the winter, and said he will use them during a Elite Series tournament this year. Probably in 1 or the next 3. So you know the Big 3 sonar companies are working overtime to be the first to bring these glasses to market. Knowing if 1 bass fishermen has something, then we all end up have to have it also. LOL I myself don't run FFS, not because I'm against it or others using it. It's just not the style or type of fishing I like to do. And I really don't want to or can afford to put $10k - $50k+ of electronics on my boat. But I would differently buy /use AR glasses linked to my regular sonar unit with Down/Side imagining. As it is getting harder and harder to see my sonar units display. Mainly the numbers like water temp, etc. As some of the small print on my 70 flat screen at the house is hard to see. And I can't find a mount to hold a 70" screen solid on the front of my Ranger. lol
  5. If still needing a partner I might be able to .. call or text me 405 664-5099
  6. Academy Sports has the Lowrance HDS Carbon 7" with Total Scan on sale for $699.99 regularly $1499
  7. And they are pretty pricey
  8. Academy Sports carries Falcon Rods... What are you wanting to use the rod for..??? Throwing crank baits, a worm rod, Jig rod, spinner-bait rod..??? I have 6 of the Falcon Buco Sr. and have used them for years. I run KastKing Assassins reels on them and with a full spool of line and 3/8-1/2oz crank-bait tied on it still weights 12.5-13.0 oz. You can cast 1/4 crank-bait with this set up do to the reels castibility and how well the Falcon rod loads up. You will be hard press to find a rod made of quality parts that's as light, feel good in your hand, sensitive, with a variety of powers and actions to fit many baits/style of fishing. I run my crank baits on 7' medium action Fast tip. Worm rod is 7' MH with Fast tip and Spinner-bait/soft swim bait 7' medium action and medium tip.. I actually replacing my 4 Falcon crank-bait rods with KastKings Speed Damon Pro S-Blend crank bait rods. Not because there's anything wrong with the Falcons (Used for years) But the KastKing's are a composite Glass/Graphite blend. Someone please tell me what Walmarts is selling Falcon's for $16-$20...lol I'll be there buying all they have.... The Buco Sr. at Academy are $99-$109
  9. You must have not really like him if you bought a new shovel and put a patio in the back yard, just cause he broke your rod...
  10. There are some valid reason stated in earlier post. But I think the biggest reason is age itself. I'm 51 and in my mind I think I can still do think that I did when I was 20 and be better at it. Then reality steps up and slaps me in the face when the physical part starts. Your knees acke, your fingers don't work as well as they once did, and you eye sight is not as good. So now at age 51 I can't stand on the front of boat running the trolling motor 8 hours straight due to knees hurting. Also balance is starting to become a issue with each pasting year. Small task like retiring your line, changing baits, or even running line though the eyes on a pole are a big deal now, where as when I was young these are things that I did with out even thinking about it. I could retie a bait and be back fishing in 20-30 seconds. Now it could take me 2 to 3 minutes or longer depending on light conditions. Eye sight is the biggest issue. Not only does it effect you on how you perpair your equipment, it also effects your fishing. Both your style of fishing and proficiency. I can no long see my line most of the time. Making fishing plastics and jigs more of a pure feel the bite type . Before I could detect a bite by feel or sight. Now I can't see my line moving off in one direction, or it go limp on the fall. So now I find myself fishing more reaction type baits even when I know I need to slow down and fish a worm/bug because of my eyesight. Never worn glasses before.
  11. Well been hitting the local farm ponds here in the central Oklahoma area lately (whenever the wind hasn't been blow 100 mph) You become a bobber in a tube when the wind is blowing like it is today here. But I have been murdering them lately on a Bill Norman's Fire-Tiger crank-bait and Chartuse and white spinner bait. I went Wed afternoon and caught 20-25 with a solid 2-1/2 lbs avg with 4 over the 4 pound mark. But the biggest fish of the day was a 7-8 lbs channel cat caught on the crank-bait....
  12. Just found the site and decided to join. Been fishing my whole life. Was into bass fishing and local tournament fishing for 10-15 years in my mid 20's to mid 30's before pretty much giving up the sports due to work and family. Now that I got 2 young grandsons, I've cleaned up the old rod and reels, aired up my float tube and started ripping lips off again.... But its time to get them started, so they can get bit by the fishing bug.
