Valhalla is 20 minutes from the house and I picked up my credentials Sunday. Heading out there in the morning for my 3rd day on the course. Fun times in the Derby City!
  2. Welcome from The 'Ville!
  3. Congrats, although I'm bummed you eliminated my Cardinals LOL
  4. LOL, Every time my wife joins me she always catches the first fish and usually the most. I would like to think I have a better handle on technique than her, but the proof seems to be in the proverbial pudding.
  5. Welcome from the 'Ville!
  6. Last week when I was in the one near me, they were running buy one at clearance get the second 50% off. Since the original markdown prices weren't that deep I passed. At lunch today I went back to find everything was 50% off the mark down price with several regular priced items 25% off. Not much in the way of rods/reels but I did grab a few things: Senko's 6" $3.23 1/6 oz Bass Magic Shaky Heads $1.48 Rage Baby Craws $2.48 Spro Bronz Eye $4.48 Zarra Puppy $1.98 KVD line conditioner $5.23
  7. Prayers for for you!
  8. Welcome from the other side of the Commonwealth!
  9. Another bags and binders vote. Since I bank fish, the binder usually stays in the car after I've grabbed a handful of bags I plan on fishing. If I need to change up, it's usually a short walk back to the car.
  10. Exactly!! Thanks for the responses all. Meeting him outside of the reunion would require more effort, time and money that I really want to put into it. If it weren't for this, it's doubtful I would ever see him in person. So far, it's been nothing more than getting to know complete strangers. While he's not much of a talker, his caregiver and family are a hoot. LOL I'm mainly maintaining contact with that side of the family to gather medical histories and get some answers to other 1/2 siblings I might have. Plus, for good or bad, he is also a part of my mother's history. I have to think at some point they loved each other as they were married for several years before I came along. Growing up, mom never hid anything from me. As a matter of fact she saved all the scrapbook stuff from those early years saying this was my history. Maybe this is a way of getting some closure as I have no desire to form a relationship with him or any of my new found cousins.
  11. My father left my mother shortly after I was born. Thankfully she met a wonderful man who adopted and raised me from the age of 3. He introduced me to fishing and gave me (and mom) a life we never would've had. Sadly he passed away in 1993. Fast forward to last fall. I got a phone call from a second cousin saying my father's family had been looking for me for several years. My birth certificate at the county courthouse reflected my name change and social media helped fill in the blanks. This has been a weird ride. We connect every so often via video chat and about once a month on the phone. He's not in the best of health but is determined to make the annual family reunion here in KY. I told him if he was going to attend, so would I. First mistake was sharing the "found him" info with mom. She's still very bitter and I regret telling her. Needless to say, I don't talk about it anymore and she doesn't ask. The reunion is coming up in a month and I'm not real sure how I feel about it. I intend to make the trip because it probably means more to him than me. I struggle with hurting my mom versus satisfying a biological instinct to meet the man. I can honestly say my feelings are more of pity for this guy than anything else, but there's still the need to know a bit more about him. He's never made any comments that lead me to believe he's sorry for abandoning us. Never any conversations of any substance. He's not in the best of health and this will probably be my only chance to meet him face to face and I don't want to regret not taking advantage of it. If anyone has ever met a parent/child for the first time late in life, I would appreciate some perspective. Thanks, Gregg
  12. Fisherperson or fisherpeople for the PC crowd.
  13. Welcome, lot's of stories here are similar to yours...mine included.
  14. I'll echo another yes. I have a spinning and BC outfit and beat the bank exclusively Often I'll take both set ups but occasionally I'll only take one of them to force me to practice a certain technique. Don't stress your finances for the sake of thinking you can't catch fish. If you only have one combo, make yourself an expert with what you have. Have fun!
  15. Just tried that combo this weekend. A definite winner for sure!
  16. Ditto, save for taking a tumble by stepping in a hole while beating the bank.
  17. Picked up my first ones yesterday and haven't had a chance to try them yet. Based on the depth of one of the ponds I frequently fish, I grabbed a KVD 1.0 and 1.5
  18. I vote heart attack...
  19. Working a chigger craw across some matted grass when a healthy bluegill jumped up and grabbed it.
  20. Welcome from Louisville! Like you, I stopped fishing for a chunk of my life as well. The information here has translated to more bass during the past month or so than ever before.
  21. Welcome from Louisville!
  22. I play a lot of golf which takes up a good chunk of my free time. When I do get out to fish, it's usually mid afternoon for a couple of hours to some of the ponds in the neighborhood. When I've got the time and can't get out, I practice pitching and flipping with my new BC set up or re-organizing my tackle or adding more to my wish list and of course spending on-line time here and other places.
  23. +1 I've gotten more first cast hook ups when casting from well off the waters edge.
  24. I haven't watched a lot of tourneys but Ish Monroe and Boyd Duckett have peaked my interest as does KVD and Iaconelli. I grew up watching Bill Dance.
  25. I'm a righty and have both my spinning and bc set up with the handles on the left. It's just a preference I find comfortable.
