6'0" Rod For Cranking/jerkbaits
Alright thanks everybody! I got my reel put on the rod yesterday, and I may go out later today. But should I also use that rod to fish spooks and poppers with as well?

Georgia Weather (The Rest Of The South Too)
I was talking to one of my buddies today and he said that one of the guys he fishes with has been on warrior river catching them at 40 feet. He showed me a picture of a 5 that he pulled out from down there. And here in Bama, the fish don't get that deep very othen. I've personally never seen them deeper than 32 feet. And he was fishing a crankbait to get those fish from 40 feet

Got A New Rod And Reel Tonight. Very Excited To Try It Out Soon.
IMX rods are amazing. I have two that my dad gave me, and one is 7'0" heavy and the other is 6'6" mh. I love my IMX rods. I don't know specially what they would be classified, say mag bass, or jig & worm rod. They just say the power, action, line, and weight, and IMX. You'll love that rod though

6'0" Rod For Cranking/jerkbaits
Alright so I've got a 7'0" heavy loomis that I use for frogs, flipping and pitching and some t-rigs, a 6'6" mh loomis for always t-rig, and I've been fishing my black max on it's combo rod which is 6'6" mh. I've been using it for cranking and jerkbaits and spinner baits, but that rod is trash. The reel is great, but the rod is trash. I have a 6'0" rod that I'd like to put that reel on for that kind of stuff. Any opinions on the length, and action, or should I go bigger? Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Georgia Weather (The Rest Of The South Too)
I'm from Birmingham, Alabama. And the last time I went fishing I didn't get one single bite. It was in the high 40's to low 50's with a pretty chopping wind. I threw jigs, cranks of all kind, including lipless, and jerkbaits, Texas rigged creature baits and worms, craws, spinnerbaits, and still nothing. When it got done snowing here last night I went outside and heard some frogs croaking out close to the creek behind my house. Does that mean they'd be hitting frogs yet, or is it still to early?

Black Max Reels
I've got a black max 2 and there is absolutely nothing wrong with mine. I love it! I fish it with stren 12 pound mono, and before that I used 14. I only got 12 because academy didn't have anymore 14, but that's besides the point. So many people put that reel down, and it's never done me wrong. I can cast a mile with it. The brakes work good, and the drag works perfect. The only thing about that reel is that it hates braid. That's why I use mono. I also had a pro max, but one of my buddies had always wanted one, and said he'd trade me a shimano caenan for it. So I traded him for it because I figured I'd like to try a shimano. I've got a blue max that works perfect as well. And my grandpa has two silver max reels that he swears by

Places To Fish Near Birmingham, Al
I'm from Bessemer and there are plenty of good fishing spots around here. It doesn't have to be a big lake either. A lot of the subdivisions around here hold fish. There's a pond in midfield that you can fish that's open to public. And if you see a private lake at a house somewhere just go up and politely ask if you could possibly fish their lake. Just make sure to let them know you won't be doing anything illegal, and you'll pick up any garbage that you see laying around, and you won't leave any behind. There's a golf course a little west of Birmingham, in Brighton and the last I'd heard they would let people fish in the afternoon after they close at around 5:30 in the spring and summer months. If it helps any, you could pull up google maps and just look for lakes and ponds. There's plenty of good places to fish around here

Abu Garcia Black Max
I love my black max. It was one of my first casting reels, the other was a rhino that my pawpaw gave me. I bought the black max combo at walmart, and I love the reel. If you can't figure out how to set it up, just watch bassresource's video on YouTube on setting up a baitcaster. That's how I set all of my reels up, and it's never done me wrong. I've got a buddy who's got one of the high dollar revos, and my black max is way better. Just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean it's cheap. It'll throw rattle traps, or Texas rigs a mile, but I prefer moving baits on the combo rod, because that 24 ton graphite isn't very sensitive. The only time I have a problem with birdnest is on really cold days when my line is wet and I can't feel my fingers. I use stren 12 or 14 pound original line on it. Only use 12 or 14 pound. Don't throw braid on it, because the black max hates braid. Hope this helps! Tight Lines!

Any Bass Clubs In Central Alabama?
I would like to start fishing tournaments, but don't have the money to fish the Alabama bass trail. It's like $1,000 a tournament, so I can't do that. And the county won't approve an actual club, or team for my high school because they won't recognize fishing as a sport. And we can't get anyone that has any free time to get everything together for us. We were going to do one, but it was going to be for school, but not actually from the school if that makes sense. But the guy who was going to do it had a heart attack, so we couldn't. If anyone knows of any clubs, that would be a great help!

Good To Be Here And Talk To Y'all From Birmingham Alabama
I've been doing some really serious fishing for about a year now. Before that I didn't really know all that much about fishing, because me and my dad hadn't been in seven years previous to this. I say it like that because I'm 17 years old. I love fishing. Any time I have free time away from school and work I'm on the water. And if I'm not on the water, then I'm usually wishing that I was. I decided to join the forums because I had heard about it from the BassResource fishing videos on YouTube, and I figured I might be able to learn a few things here. Nice to be here with all y'all!

Noob Bass Fishing
If you're going to walmart, get a cheap combo. If you're just starting out just get a cheap baitcasting combo, like rhino. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and laugh. You'll be pulling birds best out until you get used to it, but it works, and catches fish. Get some finesse jigs, or heavy jigs. Start out with stren 12-14 pound test, zoom trick worms, and zoom finesse worms. Get some crankbaits. A few square bills, and lipless cranks. A spinner bait, bullet weights, 4-5/0 hooks, Stanley ribbet frogs, or if they have them, get a KVD sexy frog, or spro frog. You should be set. Or just get a abu garcia black max combo for $59.00. And just build your tackle selection from that.

Need Suggestions On Birmingham Al And Surrounding Area!
I live in Bessemer, and there are some really good spots around our area just in general. I fish a lot of neighborhood lakes and ponds in the mccalla area, some private, some not. But, the way the weather is right now, I would say wait until it gets warmer though. Because with the cold front that's here right now, they won't bite anything for a good little while. I would say wait until it gets warmer. And there are several places that you can bank fish, or even rent boats. You can go to lake purdy, oak mtn, and places like that and bank fish, or rent boats. At lake purdy, you can rent flat bottom boats, or put your own boat in there. But you can only use their motors because that's a main water supply for our area. You can rent boats with live wells, outboards, trolling motors, electronics, etc. or you can just get a flat bottom with one motor. At oak mtn you can do kayaks, canoes, or paddle boats, and I think flat bottom boats there too. They both have some good fishing. Just wait until it gets a lot warmer. Like high 50's and low 60's for the bite I turn on good.

Birmingham Area
Alright everybody, so it's been really cold here lately the last month or so. And with very few warm weekends here and there, the fish are all kinda of screwed up. I've been fishing neighborhood lakes/ponds around my area, and last time I fished I didn't get one single bite. I've fished this one particular spot before in early fall, and I got bites on a chart finesse worm, but they wouldn't bite anything I threw at em' the last couple of times. And I threw a little bit of everything. Worms, shakey heads, wacky rigs, beavers, brush hogs, cranks, squarebills, rattle traps, and jerkbaits. Any tips on how to get them to bite, or anything?
