Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
I received this information today from Lt. Heidi Murphy at NH Fish and Game Dept. The interstate water regulations do not specify the use of a lead jig while freshwater fishing. Therefore, you would need to revert to the rules for that particular state you are fishing in. Even though it is an interstate water, there is a boundary for the states. If you are fishing in the state of New Hampshire, you must follow the regulations pertaining to the use of lead jigs. It is not illegal to possess lead jigs while fishing but it is illegal to use a lead jig (one ounce or smaller) for the taking of fish in freshwater. I know it can be confusing so if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. Should be interesting! I'm not sure if navionics show state borders.

Last year I was checked by Maine on Great East Lake in the second basin. I have still not received an answer, I have sent additional E-mails to fisheries and law. It does not seem right to me that citizens could fish the same body of water and have different laws apply to them.

I sent an E-mail to NH fisheries asking what the rules for lead are on interstate lakes. The laws are not the same in NH and Maine, they have not yet responded to the E-mail. I'm hoping for an early fishing season.

Fished Horn Pond yesterday, caught a dozen fish but only 3 made the scale, 1.4, 2.3 and 2.9 pounds. The largest 2 came on 1/2 once football jig sour pumpkin with a triple ripple craw trailer and the others on assorted soft plastics.

Sorry to hear you can't tow your boat, hopefully the 02 sensor will fix it. If you need to get a fishing fix let me know.

I can't imagine fishing the way the wind was blowing earlier! Did you get your truck fixed? Have not seen any fishing posts from you since the one about fixing your truck. I'm going to try to get to Goose pond this week, 2 hour ride to get there but I've heard good things.

Back from Great East, caught about 20 LM most were 1-3.5 pounds with a couple exceeding 4 Lb. Most of the fish were caught right next to the shore on soft plastics, Rage Menace in Blue Gill and hawg craw tail in green pumpkin accounted for a lot of the fish. I spent way to much time fishing with jigs to only catch 1 fish on them, I must be doing something wrong! Enjoy the weekend!

Between the weather and having one of my daughters get married (one to go), I have not been fishing in about 3 weeks! Heading to Great East tomorrow, hopefully we will find some active fish. Good luck with the truck repair Bob, hard to pull the boat without it.

Returned from the trip to lake umbagog on Friday. Fished Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday was 41 degrees, rainy and wind gusts to 35 miles an hour (no boats on the lake). The weather cleared on Thursday, but the temp dropped into the 30's early that morning. We ended up catching 92 fish, mainly 1 to 3 pound smallmouth with a couple of large pickerel thrown in. One long skinny male at a little over 4 pounds was all beat up from making a nest. The majority of the lake was in the mid to high 50's with some areas in the low 60's. We never did find the big girls but we still had a blast.

We stay at Paradise Point, they have docks for the boat and are real nice people. This will be the forth year going up, learning more about the lake every year. We are staying through Friday this time. We always catch a lot of smallmouth, and have caught 1 largemouth. In the office they have a picture of a 8 pound largemouth caught there a couple of years ago. (but I love the smallmouth)

Thanks for the info Bob. I did go up to the north end a little but the east end of the island got very shallow and I gave up on it. I spent most of my time going down the west side, coves and the area going towards the ramp.

I fished Horn pond for the first time today. It has a great ramp and looks like a beautiful place to fish, but I sure couldn't get them to bite today. Tried pointer 78 and 100 in many colors including perch, golden shiner, brook and rainbow trout. Square bill cranks and some creature type soft baits, spinner baits and even a mac daddy 5 inch shiner. Water temp 56-58

Fished Great East today for a few hours. Had a tough day, lost a good size bass at the boat and all others were pickerel or yellow perch. Tried jerk baits, stick baits, jigs, spinner baits all fish were caught on jerk baits. I know I did not let the lures sit for 30 seconds very often ( its just so long to wait ). Water temp in the main lake was 43-44 degrees and in the river 51-52 degrees.

Thanks for the information Bob. I hope I get more than 1 hour of fishing, but I really hope I don't have a battery problem getting there!

Fished for a couple of hours Sunday afternoon on Tuxbury Pond. Fished with my brother in law, out of his boat. Access from the river to the pond limits the size of boat you can put in. The pond is extremely weedy, the water is high but only has a small channel that is relatively weed free. Caught a 2 lb bass and a bunch of pickerel on a pointer 78, tried jigs and soft plastics with no luck. Planning on fishing Great East on Wednesday.

I have never had a Maine fishing license but after talking to a friend of mine today, I'm going to buy a Maine non-resident license. He fishes a lot of tournaments, and basically said the same as you that the NH lakes are being over fished. The lakes in Maine are not seeing the same kind of pressure, resulting in better fishing.

As of yesterday there was no ice on Powwow. I'm not sure if I would use my boat as a ice breaker!

Finally got the boat in the water today for a couple of hours. No wind at home, but white caps on the water. Only caught one fish, but for the first of the year I'll take a 4 1/2 pounder! The surface water temp ranged from 50 to 55 degrees depending on location.

A sad day, I went to stop in at Northern Bass Supply today (closed) it was sold to a company based in Connecticut. The days of walking in and buying off the shelves in Brentwood are over.

I talked to someone at Lovell Lake that told me Balch was great once they lowered the water and the temp dropped. He told me to fish blade baits or rattle traps on the drop offs. Too late for me I just finished winterizing and pulling the batteries. Have a short Winter!

Great year on the water Bob! I did not get nearly that much time on the water. I have not winterized the boat yet but it seems I'm running out of time to get back on the water. Hope you enjoy the winter (may it pass quickly)

Good day of fishing. It did look like a cold ride on the boat. In your video the lake did not appear to have been lowered. Do they lower the lake?
