  1. they looked like they were schooling to me, but kinda scattered moving from cover to cover. they would all simultaneously dart from one stump to the other really fast. I wish I had my net at the time to try and scoop them out to see what they looked like. I have polarized oakleys that I wear all the time fishing too, but they were moving so fast I couldn't see exactly what colors they were, looked kinda dark brownish to me. Most of the lakes I fish either have bluegill, sunfish or trout . Im pretty sure none of the lakes I fish have shad but I could be wrong, the website for the lakes I fish say there are no shad, but have heard of people catching them on shad colored crankbaits
  2. hi all, I'm fairly new to bass fishing and wanted to know how do you tell a difference in baitfish? I haven't fished in a while because I'm trying to finish up my degree, but when I was back home in southern California a month ago, I noticed in both lakes I fished that a ton of baitfish had came up close to the banks, but I couldn't tell if they were shad, minnows, really small bluegill or what. I know the lakes I fish have a lot of bluegill, but they looked too small for bluegill, they were only an inch long maybe two at the most. I don't think the lakes I fish have shad, but I couldn't really tell the color of the baitfish because they were moving so fast in and out of cover. People were cranking and smashing the fish like crazy, and at the time I didn't have any crankbaits to throw. How do you guys tell the difference between baitfish if you are fishing from the bank and what do you look for in the different types of baitfish? Any advice would be great!
  3. well, my family just moved to north san diego, and diamond valley is about an hour away, lakes hodges is 20 min and probably 5 or 6 good bass lakes within an hour drive. I haven't really fished any other lakes in Ca tho, but san diego bass are usually good sized, this summer I didn't catch anything smaller than 2-3 pounds, even though the water level in our lakes are dropping like crazy. GIVE ME RAIN!!!!!!!!!
  4. anyone know of any good spots in Tucson? I go to school down there and so far, haven't had much luck, but im used to socal bass fishing on big lakes and stuff, so far Tucson only has the urban program that I can tell. I want to go to lake Patagonia, but haven't had time with school to make it down there
  5. Like the title says, does anyone know what the main forage for bass in lakes like Diamond Valley Lake, Lake Hodges or other San Diego Lakes that are in the north county. I just recently was reintroduced to bass fishing this summer and fished lake hodges a lot towards the end of summer and noticed a lot of baitfish all over the shore but could not tell what kind of baitfish it was. Same goes for Diamond Valley lake for me. How do you guys tell what kind of baitfish are running around, and other forage that the bass might be keying in on? And does anyone know what the main forage would be like for these lakes in SoCal? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hey all, does anyone fish Diamond Valley Lake or lakes in the San Diego are like Lake Hodges or Lake Henshaw? I fished Diamond Valley a lot this summer, and caught pretty much all my fish on dropshots and weightless senko's, Lake hodges towards the end of summer was a good crankbait bite for me and have only fished henshaw once over the summer but I go to college out in Tucson, Arizona and haven't been back to those lakes since late august. I will be fishing these lakes alot during the winter once my winter break starts, and was wondering what has been working in these lakes over the past few months, and what do you guys think the conditions will be like in the middle of December going into early January. Ive never fished during the "winter" out in San Diego as I just recently got heavily addicted to bass fishing , and my family just moved to north san diego county. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  7. will do. that was only a one time thing and definetly won't do it again hahaha!
  8. ok im going to send it in to lews, thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it
  9. On my lews team lite, I tried to "recreate" what is going on with my tournament pro, and could not at all get that obscene noise. It also doesn't happen on my two other tournament pro's, only one of them.
  10. yes this is exactly it, just difficult for me to explain. Is this something that can be fixed by either doing it myself or sending it back to lews? or is it just how a reel operates if I continue to do that? Im not intentionally doing it, but I think it could be just the way I fish, I honestly don't really know
  11. Ok I think Im going to send it back to Lews, and see what they can do, its just so weird cuz it happened on my first taking it out, and has happened ever since then. Thank you guys for your help. Really appreciate it.
  12. well I got a couple of tournament pro's brand new for $150, team lews lite for $180. As for rods, I only have five, but I just bought 2 St Croix Avid X's (7'4 casting and 7'0 M spinning) on *** during their black Friday sale that I got for $165. Can't wait to get them in the mail
  13. would it be the drag? it feels as though its the spool or something because the spool will continue to spin for a bit while making that noise and just randomly stop. it doesn't happen on "soft" hooksets you could say, but only on hard hooksets. its very weird. thanks for the help PAGreg
  14. hey all, I wanted to see if I could attempt to determine what was going on with my reel before sending it into lews. I have a tournament pro, and when I first bought it, it was fantastic. When pitching jigs or other stuff that requires very hard hooksets and hard reeling, I noticed that when reeling down hard and that sudden stop when setting the hook, the reel makes a very loud zipper like noise, and the spool keeps spinning for a few seconds while making this noise, then it completely stops. Its very weird and have not experienced anything like this with any of my lews reels, I even took the line off to see if maybe some line was caught up or something, but it continues to do this, even when reeling in pretty hard ( and then a sudden stop) still caused this issue, and I was in my room not even fishing! lol anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? basically: reel down hard, set the hook, loud zipper noise as soon as I set the hook and the spool starts to spin uncontrollably (In the same direction as when reeling in), then it stops as if it never happened and bye bye fish.
  15. yes, I love it, super light and goes great with my 7'3 micro magic, but I honestly feel my tournament pro is slightly smoother on retrieve, but the team lite casts better and is feels just as durable as the tp for the weight. I will buy more
  16. I'm going with anything but Dixon lake in san Diego, ca. Its about 5 minutes from my house and more like a pond than anything else lol. Theres really only one place to fish from shore, and no boats, just kayaks and the like allowed and only caught a few smalls ones and have been there alot. The record at Dixon was 25.1 and to my knowledge the fish died a few years ago, and so far the only fish there it seems is about a pound to two at the most. Definitely not my favorite lake in Socal
  17. I am looking into getting a Duckett micro magic pro 7'6 H or the St Croix Avid X 7'4 H for pitching 3/8oz jigs and t-rigs on 25lb fc .. I have a 7'3 MH micro magic that I use for finesse jigs, Senko's and c-rigs, and I absolutely love it, in my hands its super lightweight and really sensitive, which I love, but the new Avid X really is catching my eye, if anyone has used the avid x yet, are the micros as small as the ducketts? Whichever rod I end up getting I will be pairing it with a lews super duty 8.0:1. Just looking for some thoughts on these two set up's and which you would spend your money on and why. Thanks everyone!
  18. thanks guys for your help, Im gonna think about it for a bit, but most likely going to give the St. Croix a shot. I love American made stuff and try to help out other Americans as much as I can! anyways, when I get it I will post some pictures and things, Im starting to dig this site
  19. Hey all, first post here on bass resource and I need some help choosing my first high end rod. First off, Im coming off of a cheap Walmart Shakespeare rod that actually snapped in two yesterday while casting from the bank, kinda was waiting for that to happen! Anyways, I've been a trout guy most of my life and just in the last year I have gotten bass fever and have become obsessed with bass fishing. Im looking at getting a great T-rig rod that I can mainly pitch and also cast well. I eventually will move into other rods for jigs/ cranks/ c-rig etc, basically looking to get into a whole set up for everything, but first I'm really looking for a company that I can expand into other rods, first trying them out for a while then expanding into their other rods. I've been saving up my pennies (college kids gotta eat and pay tuition right?) for the right rod and I'm really interested in the St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass 7'3'' mh/ 7'4'' h or making a step up to the megabass orochi xx perfect pitch. I like how St. croix is made in the US but there's also something about Megabass that intrigues me.I probably can't go wrong with either, but the closest bass pro is about five hours from me, and don't have a car to get there, most likely won't be able to pick up the rod at a store as there's really no stores that carry high end rods here in the Arizona desert, most likely will order from tw. Im looking to pair the rod up with a lews heavy duty or bb1-pro (not sure yet). Both rods seem to have fantastic reviews, and I'm just looking for the rod to be my workhorse and expand into other rods in the line up (I feel it's a trust thing and having the rods from the same lineup would provide the consistency in rods im looking for). I want something with insane sensitivity, and that's great quality. My max is about $300 for the rod, so help a college kid spend money wisely!!!!! Thanks for your input and help.
