  1. Sounds like you got a great deal!!!!
  2. Check for on line coupons or discounts. Dicks always have some discount or special going. Think the one I just seen was $10 off an online order of $50 or more but there also maybe other. Good luck
  3. Same here - I have the Spiderwire backpack and so does my son (he picked his independent of me). For the monte they have a lot of room and are well laid out. Our local Dicks Sporting Goods had them in stock so it was nice to be able to look at it in person before purchasing one. Cabelas and Bass Pro both have bags under there store brand if you are nearby Good luck in your quest.....
  4. Backpack x3 Love mine!!!
  5. I never had any issues on Pontoons - now in super heavy cover (like where there are ton of trees sticking up) it can be harder to get between them just due to the width but you can always skirt the outside and throw into the area. The nice thing is you can have an on board bathroom/changing room (pop up from the rear seat area - great for Kids) and I love the idea of the grill mounted off the rail - nice to have a hotdog or something while you are tooling around. Many of the newer ones come with a trolling motor and fish finders preinstalled (also live wells and rod racks) Good luck on your search
  6. I guess I am just not real competitive or something but I really don't care if I win or lose - Im not 10, so who cares. Go have fun, give it a try and let the chips fall where they may.
  7. Would they like a pontoon? With the right setup they can easily pull a tube or skier and it gives them lounging room. A few fishing seats out on the front wouldn't even make a dent in the overall space. Just throwing it out there..... We are looking to get one in the future as it is a good "family" boat that still allows for a good fishing platform.
  8. Thanks I will take a look. I really want to find something and give it a try!!!
  9. Slugs do drop a LOT quicker - they are large heavy projectiles so the drop quicker and ricochet far less.
  10. Yep, they sure will. One of the reasons for using fragmenting bullets varmint hunting is to reduce the chance of skipping a round. It becomes far more likely because you are shooting at LONG range at a target maybe a foot off the ground, (mostly prone or sitting) so you have a very slight angle. There are even some tactical situations where skipping a bullet is implimented (certainly not preferred of course). Also worth remembering is that bullets will easily skip off water, basically the same as a rock so if there is water in the background it is even more likly.
  11. I been kicking around buying a new rod and reel and needed some advice. I always have been Bass fishing and never really messed around doing much else so I have a very limited knowledge of other types of fishing. Recently I got to do a little bit of Catfish fishing and got out on the river fhere in WV for the first time (always fished lakes and streams in the past). Well I had a great time and really enjoyed it so I was thinking I might expand my tackle collection so I can do this a bit more. The other thing is I get to Georgia from time to time and could play around some fishing off the docks in the salt water. So this leads me to my question – what is a decent rod and reel to do those things for maybe 100 bucks (if that is possible – maybe I’m being way too cheap?) Our current tackle is all Shimano stuff for the most part (Ok my daughters is not Shimano as I could not find a pink and black rod and reel combo made by them – seems a 13 year old girl is a bit more concerned about the colors than anything, oh well she likes it and it seems to work pretty well) Anyway, this does not have to be Shimano as I know there are a lot of good brands so any ideas will help. I have mainly spinning gear as I find I seem to favor it but I do have a small bait caster I use for Bass so I guess I am open to all suggestions. Anyway I really know nothing about this and am looking for any information or suggest you all may have. Thanks in advance.
  12. I never even gave it a thought about people cheating in a tournament - that is just plain wrong!!! Glad they got caught
  13. Great info - been looking at one also and now feel I should get it this weekend!
  14. As mentioned it does depend on a LOT of different things. The real "goal" is to achieve full penetration to the vitals, and not have the bullet exit the animal. You really want to have the bullet transfer all of its energy to the target creating a large wound cavity. If the bullet does exit it really is wasted energy at that point and creates other issues (unintended impacts)
  15. For many years if I missed a fish I would just try again with whatever caused the first miss (mostly never worked) - can you explain why you follow up with plastics as several have mentioned? What makes this work. (I am trying to learn and understand more about fishing so I ask this as a student and don't mean it in a disagreeing way) Thanks
  16. I personally have the Spiderwire backpack tackle bag and love it. Pliers hook on a spot on the outside, semi hard case for sunglasses, have 5 3600 boxes in it and still have some room left for lunch. Also on the outside it has a few outside pockets for hooks, and all the other little things I want to carry. Today we fished the river and you have to walk down a VERY steep rock bank (basically 1 hand on the rocks due to the steepness and instability) and with the backpack it really is not too bad. Just tighten it up and climb down. The funny part is my son had his generic tackle bag and kept saying, thats it Im getting my backpack set up as soon as I get home (he bought one 2 nights ago and didn't get his gear transferred over yet)
  17. I have had both long beds with crew cabs and short beds both. The long bed is really nice if you haul a LOT. At the time I was doing a LOT of home construction so the long bed was great. Now taking the long bed to the city and trying to cram it in a major cities parking garage was a lot less fun. Some places it just plain would not fit - one lot guy at a garage in Philly about lost his mind when I wheeled in to get my ticket and head into the garage. He started screaming at me that I couldn't park that "thing" in the garage..... Now I currently have a short bed diesel and really like it a lot. It is a fair bit easier to take the wife to the mall in (if needed) and the shorter bed makes towing in tight confounded spacers easier due to the shortened turn radius. I can still haul 4x8 sheets without a big issue and have a hitch helper so I can take a 17' canoe in the bed and not take a trailer. Hope this helps and good luck
  18. Thanks Roadwarrior but I was really looking for something that would allow me to leave the reel on the rod. Years ago I seen one that was made with a heavy fabric wrapped tube and the one end of the tube swelled way out for the reel. The reel area was very well padded and had some plastic reinforcement around it to help protect the reel. I am not going to shipping the rod/reel in it, jus something that would let me put it in the car/truck she traveling and keep it from getting banged around mainly. "Allen" makes something close to what I want but when I Emailed the company the customer service could not tell me how it was constructed (cardboard or PVC tube). Here is a link to it to give you an idea: http://allencompany.net/fishing/spinning-rod-case-1011.html Thanks again
  19. I been traveling a lot and been wanting a better way to keep my rod and reel safe in a vehicle. I have a Shimano 2500 size spinning reel and 6'6" 2 piece rod. I would like a soft case where the reel can stay attached. Don't really need any extra storage in the case just want something to protect it. I see Allan's make one but read somewhere the case is a fabric with a cardboard rod tube and that does not thrill me. I liked the case but really would like it to have a PVC rod tube and not a cardboard (I read this and have not confirmed this to be true of the Allan case). I would prefer a black case but I know I can't be picky. Thanks
  20. Exactly - just gives a little buffer space and the PVC does not hurt the guest boats. As for fishing a dock that someone does not want me to fish - no problem. Plenty of other places and not really worth the hassle to me.
  21. I know nothing about tournament fishing so I enjoyed reading your post and learned a few thing I may not have thought of. Thanks for posting
  22. I am just learning but I do have to admit you have some good points there! We were fishing clear water over the weekend -wife had mono on, I had green braid - and we had the same number of hits and catches with both lines. FAR from scientific but was interesting to me. I honestly didn't even know some used a leader so I guess not having one didn't sway my confidence....
  23. Game cam (could place it inside looking out), wet the ground around the cabin before heading in for the night and see what kind of prints you have in the morning
  24. 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel
  25. That is exactly what I was thinking!
