What pond baits to throw first
The 1/4oz Tiny Torpedo has got to be one of the most underrated small-water lures ever made. rip....rip....pause...SMASH! And don't forget about the old jointed floating Rapala....the action is still as deadly as ever.

Breaking in a new setup this morning from the bank of a small river - Tsurinoya Dragon II, 6'6" Light baitcaster, rated for 1/16-3/8oz: Now, I don't know BFS from IBS.... but I slapped on a silver max 3 I had laying around, and found I could order one of those shallow refit BFS spools for it. Strung it up with 10lb sufix braid and 4lb xt leader and thought I'd try slinging around a #2 mepps aglia .... amazingly, it works. Not getting the distance of a spinning rod yet, but pretty good enough. These guys showed up to help me test it out... green bass and bronze bass, sharing the same small midriver hole in harmony -- why, it warms the heart:

How big are your bogs? Do you think you might be re-catching some of the bigger bass, or are they all different fish?

I have a rod/reel question…
No tournaments for me either, but I've got....[glances to the right, counts]... 30 setups. Well, one is broken. One I found in the river, so that's a bonus. But honestly don't need. Four more I haven't used in about 5 years, so probably don't need those either. None of which stopped me from buying another one last month.

I have never...
I've also never caught a double. Never had to have a hook removed from my skin. Rigs? Never used an alabama, neko, tokyo, double-fluke, or any kind of big swimbait thing. Never caught anything on a regular-sized carolina rig. Never fished for more than 8 hours at a time (I think? maybe for walleye when I was in high school). Not recently, anyway. I have been to all 50 states, but have not fished in 43 of them, and not caught fish in 45.

Marabou Jigs for Smallies
To be honest, i don't know how you're "supposed" to fish a hair jig, but I sort of treat them the same as a ned rig.

Biggest advantage of sidescan I have found is the ability to see how far away I am from a deep weedline, as well as breaks and irregularities in the edge.- Do you think buzz baits are effective for river smallmouth or do you find other topwater presentations more productive?
The tail prop on the 75 is actually a little bigger and is quicker to start up. But sure, the 90 works too. Blade color probably doesn't matter; I just like gold because it seems to fit much of the forage base.- Do you think buzz baits are effective for river smallmouth or do you find other topwater presentations more productive?
yes -- 1/4 oz black/gold or white/chart/gold cavitron with a trailer hook. But to be honest, in recent years I've found the Whopper Plopper 75 a bit more versatile ...I can cast upcurrent a bit, and let it float down into position before starting the retrieve.- Latest Catch Pics Thread

Just now starting to see the first hints of changing color -- in a month, that whole shoreline is going to be a blaze of orange and yellow.- Latest Catch Pics Thread

Skipping. "Ripping" something out of weeds (e.g., lipless). Finding smallmouth in lakes.- Help identity this fluke
Bruiser Baits Rad Shad has that same kind of jointed midsection, so that could be it.- Deps cover scat soft stick bait

Theme song for me trying to cast with BFS tackle:- Please share your 2023 20 lb. bag.
My top 5 for the the whole year is about a pound or two shy of 20, but I haven't weighed every bass. I've caught 2 bass over 4lb this year that I know of, and might have cracked 5 for 15 once or twice, but that's it. Pretty sure I have never had 5-20 in one day by myself. 100 fish day? eh, I got 20 a couple of times.- Hey BassResource Friends & Family!!!
I caught my current pb largemouth on a rage tail space monkey a couple summers ago -- I don't leave home without 'em!- Latest Catch Pics Thread
used to catch these all the time in the river back home growing up....and that's what we did with them too!- Do you have (fishing) acquaintances that are a one-way street?
I don't ask anybody for information, but I also keep things to myself, so if you give me intel, I suppose I become the one-way street.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
Four this morning at the "tough lake" which has good-sized bass for this area, but a low catch rate, and gets a lot of bass fishing pressure for its size. Today they were about average. Here are three: Bass on left is not orange, just reflecting the sunrise -- it was very long and skinny, nearly 18". I should have taken the pic on the measuring board. The other two were 15". a fourth that I didn't take a pic of was 16". All were caught on a spinnerbait along the edges of pad fields. Spinnerbaits seem very popular with the bass in my lakes this summer. Maybe they're just sick of chatterbaits... - Sonars takin the fun out the hunt?
