You never catch fish smaller than 2lbs? :
Thats what I was thinking, the average here is 2-5 pounds with some in the 6-9 pound range, but I cant say I never catch anything smaller than 2 pounds, what bait are you using to keep the smaller ones away? in washington the smaller fish even around a 1/2 to 1 pound will hit jig n pigs and 10 inch worms.
I am fishing a river and the water has been extra high and muddy for longer than normal, what Im wondering is how long will these fish hold there eggs, they look like they are ready to pop, and there havent been any fish bedding(that I know of) yet, I know that high muddy water isnt really what they want to lay there eggs in, due to the current and amount of silt in the water, Do they just spawn or will they wait until the water stabilizes a little? normally they would have bedded up by now, and layed there eggs.
In the heat of the summer I like to fish from dusk till around 1-2am, and I usually use 7-10 inch black or purple texas rigged worms, black spinnerbaits, or topwater lures that make alot of noise(buzzbaits, jitterbugs, torpedos). During the middle of the day I will fish deeper structure with dropshots, grubs, deepdiver crankbaits, and spider grubs.
Like mentioned above I dont have the $$$ to go fishing for those tropical bass, I love catching Largemouth, but a 5-6 pound smallie is by far a funner fish to catch than a 5-6 pound largie, pound for pound smallies are a stronger fighting fish, at least in Washington st.
Try this it works in Washington, any of the above baits will work, find the fish remember where it is sitting and back off from it a good 20-30 feet so you cant see it anymore, if you can see the fish odds are it can see you and that makes it harder to coax them into biteing, make longer casts and it will pay off. good luck
