I tried different retrieves. I get the most action when it first hits the water or when it is a steady hard 1 sec jerk with a steady cadence. I have used it on 4 different trips to Lake Quatchita (only when I see top water action) the past month and yesterday for about 4 hours on the Arkansas River. I will give the fluke a shot! The reason for wanting to buy all the lures is because it seams nessassary to really be able to dial in on the bass. At least that is what I tell my wife!

Here is a check list Buy 3 different colors (clear, dark, and keep my Foxy) of each Chug N Spook. If that does not work than get 3 Colors of Jr. Chugs If that does not work then get 3 larger and 3 smaller wake baits in different colors. Be sure to try many different speeds and cadences. So for about $60 more I can be armed for top water?

What color and brand?

I have been throwing a Heddon Chug N Spook in Foxy Shad color the past few weeks. I cast it when I see bass pushing the bait fish up. If I can get the lure in there with in 5 or 6 seconds of the first fish boiling the water I can get some awesome reaction from the bass. The bass will really blow this lure up!! The problem I am having is 85 or 90% of the time the bass will just swat it or just knock the Heddon out of the water. I have even had a few come from under the lure and jump way out of the water with their mouth closed ramming the lure. It is like they are swimming and fully committed and at the last second they close their mouth. What should I do to get the bass to commit and bite?

I wear prescription glasses and the sun is killing my eyes. I am wanting to buy some polarized clip on sunglasses but do not know what to look for in a pair. I see some on eBay for $3 - $15 but I would think a quality set would be around $50. I would like them to help knock the glare off the water and protect my eyes. I'm hoping someone can send me to the right place to get a good set instead of having to buy 3 or 4 sets before finding something that works.

I was using 15 lb fluro on the crainkbaits. I am going to switch to 10 lb and bring a stick of dynamite for back up!!

Thanks for that tip Chris!!! It sounds like you know what your talking about. I will be using that idea for the trip this weekend.

My brother asked me to help him purchase 2 new fish finders for his boat. I looked on Humminbird's website and it sent me to local big box stores. The sales reps there did not seem to know much more than I do. After research I really think the new 360 radar would get the the job done. Where I need help is making sure $3,000 will buy 2 displays with all cables/accessories, Side Imaging, Down Imaging, Chart Ploter, Maps and 360 Radar.

Now that I think about it he was and usually focused and was accurate with his cast. It was like every spot I wanted to cast at he was already casting there. Unless he is getting bit on a bait for more than 20 mins I will be casting something I can fish a bit faster than him with a different presentation. I try not to slow what ever pace he is setting. It's his boat and he is driving so I would feel awkward about asking him to slow down unless I had a real strong hunch that we needed to. I have only been fishing for 3 months and he has been serious about fishing for 25 years. I guess his hard earned experience is showing and my beginners luck is wearing off.

I went back August 14th and I had the worst day of fishing ever. I did not catch a fish in 13 hours of fishing. It was sunny with almost no wind and it was hot!!! I was not focused and my confidence was shattered. The morning started off amazing. The bass where schooling and the water was boiling from all the activity on main lake points. I have never seen it so much active. I think I would have been better off dipping my net in the water than casting any baits. I even joked with my brother saying I should just buy a 6" treble hook and try snagging them! To make things worse my brother was slamming them all day!! He even caught 2 bass on one crainkbait in one cast! They where maybe a pound each but we just stood there staring at each in disbelief. I guess everyone has days like this.

What was the water temp?

I fished Lake Ouachita on Tuesday August 5th. The water temperature was 86.5. The whole day the smaller bass would chase just about anything I would throw at them but I could not get them to bite. They would chase the lure right up to the boat. I tried swim bait, deep and shallow crank baits, Texas rigged 8 different plastics. I could reel it slow, fast, stop or even jerk and they would not bite. The bigger bass where in very shallow grass next to the bank or suspended 15 to 35 foot deep. They would not even react when I would cast at them. I fished from 5:45 am to 6:30pm and only caught one keeper at the outside edge of the grass about 12' deep on a worm. Is this normal for this time of year? What could I have done to get them to bite?

I am new to bass fishing and I am having a hard time finding any topo maps. Does anyone know where a good source is?

I decided to join this site after watching 20 or so videos from Glenn. I love his honest approach and desire to help people to become well rounded fisherman and not trying to sell me the latest and next best thing. I have a good hunch this website will be a treasure trove of solid information. I can't wait to dig in!!
