It happens to me all the time when im careless and not paying attention. Flukes without a swivel, windy days, and when my baits are too light for the setup im using seem to be my problems

I went down to the oklahoma river (in okc)on my lunch today and got skunked. I saw a few fish hitting the surface and i know for sure there are hybrid bass in there. I was fishing on the tailwaters of a dam. I started with a fluke fished weightless, spinner bait, buzzbait, zara chugnspook and a zara pooch. Nothing. It was my first time fishing a river so i was out of my element. Anyone else have any experience on this river?

Had a crappie do this to me once. I threw it back in and it sunk to the bottom. I thought it was dead and was thinking i should have kept it for a meal. Few seconds later it darted off

I have heard that fish spawn on certain moon phases and also crawdads hatch on a full moon. Is there any scientific evidence to this or just anecdotes that we stubornly hang on to?

Good for you man. Its sometimes hard to see the good through the bad. From an outside perspective this may have been the best fishing trip ever. I have 3 little ones with the oldest just now able to grasp the concept of fishing. I spend as much time as i can with her on the water. It makes me sad to hear that the boys father wouldnt take the time for his son. I would never want to look back on my life and regret the times i didnt spend with my kids. Mr lin, you may have been the one person in this boys life to show him the joys of fishing and maybe even made him a fisher for life. Thank you for taking the time.

I love hearing stories like this. Just lets me know that bass will eat anything i throw at them if the conditions are right. I tend to overthink this alot and often assume bass are smarter than they really are.

Ultralight gear with a curly tail grub. Bring a couple inline spinners and extra grubs and jig heads.

I believe you are right. I also think they are an invasive species since they have few natural predators. I could be wrong though

I dont remember who said it on these forums but someone said wed all probably throw in the towel if we knew exacly how many fish were in spots where we thought there were none. I used to think there were no bass in the ponds around my house now im figuring out that they are choc full of them. The hard part is figuring out how to catch them.

So would a bass in oklahoma not be a pure florida strain? Id guess that many smaller waters around here drop below that at some point during the year meaning there must be some northern strain in them?

And that swimming turd, awesome. I want one for my rearview mirror! Any doubts or questions about what a particular bait mimics have been wiped from my mind (pun intended) its apparent that a bass will bite anything that it thinks is food!

Yes, zara pooch. I had a few from who knows where and realized they work really well in my fishing holes. What i didnt realize is that they dont make them anymore...and i didnt realize this until i had lost all but one!! Now im scrambling to find a replacement and im terrified to throw my last one for fear of losing it. I know its not a super rare or collectable lure but mentally its hard for me to let this one go.

Hey everyone, i was reading the thread about double digit fish and noticed several references to different strains of florida lm. I think f1 was one and maybe one other? Does anyone have a good link on where i can find info on these different strains? I live in central oklahoma and i only hear about florida l.m. in general, no specifics on species. Im just cuious and would like to know more about it.

Ive been doing some heavy research on using topwater frogs over the last few weeks and thanks to everyone here I finally got one! It was honestly the funnest catch of my life yet! I was fishing a pond that is in a local park. This place gets lots of pressure and I wasn't sure if I was wasting my time. I decided to go off the beaten path and fish the nastiest looking places I could reach, areas that would have intimidated me a few months ago. Thanks to everyone here I had enough confidence to try, realizing that this is where the fish would be. I was using a black h20 express frog, throwing it into heavy duckweed and lay downs. I cast out and popped the frog a few inches and then waited...Kerthwump! I had a strike! I knew from the forums that I needed to wait until I felt the weight of the fish so I gave it a few seconds and wham, fish on! It wasn't the biggest fish Ive caught but it was by far the most exhilarating, I'm hoping to go out and catch a few more before the season's over. Again, I wouldn't have had the confidence and know how if it weren't for everyone here at BR, thanks!

Im in the same boat so to speak and was about to ask the same question! I have 2 and a third due any day now. I fish primarily from shore and want to upgrade my spinning gear. Im leaning towards the pflueger president combo from bass pro. Im going to go into a store soon and try them out to see which setup feels best. I know its not tourney grade equipment but itll be better than my current setup at a price less than a hundred bucks. Anyone else have experience with this setup please chime in.

Thanks for the replies. Ill keep the fish out of water to a bare minimum, I think its important to make sure these guys are around for the next time. On a side note, I noticed mjseverson got the best answer (and it was). How is that decided, Ia moderator or is it based off of likes? Just curious

thanks for the quick id, im going to keep my eyes peeled for some of these. Turns out i have a few other lures that are not manufactured anymore but produce very well for me. Im torn, keep catching fish or keep my lures.

How do you usually fish them? Thats a bummer about them not being made. Have you found anything similar?

Hey everyone I need help identifying a spoon type lure I am using. I don't know when or where I got this guy but its been working for me! I have absolutely no experience with spoons but i just slow roll this thing in and it gets hit. I don't even know if its technically a spoon but Id like to try to find more. I looks like a solid piece of metal with a bulbous midsection running the length of the bait. I cant tell if the color was factory or added after, it appears to be some kind of sticker/tape and It says Prizm image on the bottom. They eyes look like they were glued on, but crooked. Also, am i fishing this thing right? How would you normally fish a spoon from shore?
