  1. im going on vacation to ocean city MD for a week and need a saltwater spining combo that is pretty cheap. i am after sea trout, stripers, bluefish, croaker and flounder. would it be possible to use a cheap freshwater setup? i have 3 of them but i hate how huge saltwater rod/reels are. im looking for something thats like medium light action so i can get a really good fight. any ideas on what i should get?
  2. went to Lake Arthur today for only the second time in my life. caught 3 largemouth and a smallmouth! fish were caught on the rapala minnow rap and husky jerk. fish #1 #2 #3 #4 caught this on a minnow rap! LOL

caught 5 fish, 3 were keepers, the bigger one hit a 4" senko dragged over some pads and the smaller one hit a pink cut tail. 17" - not sure on the weight
  5. a few days ago i went to my local 2-3 acre lake. theres basically no weeds in there yet, but by summer, its impossible to fish with spinners and other lures. i was tossing a senko around, the temp was about 76 the lake was slightly stained. i fished for an hour or so and then gave up, i managed to catch a 9" bass lol. today i got out to the same lake, temp was around 67 or so, same conditions, slightly windy. i was mainly going for trout. i tied on a glass minnow 2.5" husky jerk and managed to catch 30 bass in an hour/half!!!!!! this is more then i caught all of last year!. these fish were not big at all 5-10" but i did get a nice 13". any reason for only cathing smaller ones? in the summer i see monsters crusing the shallows. any tips on cathing those monsters? i still can't believe how i caught so many fish, i almost had a hit every cast
  6. first time using it, and i must say AWESOME. i caught my limit, 2 of which on Yum Troutkrilla. each time i tossed this bait out there i had a fish on, it does take a little while though, guess the scent must disperse. took about 5 -10 minutes or so untill i got a hit
  7. we went to deer creek in allegheny couny. i had my limit by 9am. my dad and his friend also caught their limit, it was my dads friends first time trout fishing too! he missed about 20 fish, most of them lost on the bank. we hooked over 50 fish combined and lost a load. wax worms and yum troutkrilla did the trick, my dad missed 13 fish on a rebel hellgrammite crankbait! this is one amazing bait, they just kept hitting it.

ive caught my 2 biggest bass on the zoom trick worm, excellent bait, rig it weightless
  9. if the conditions are like they are in the pics, i would try some 1/8oz panther martins, try gold if its overcast and silver if its sunny. may also want to try drifting trout magnets in white, black or mealworm gold, cast your spinners up and across stream. if the water is slighting muddy i would try some fire tiger type color spinners, Pm's, mepps, etc.I would also try some spoons like kastmasters. for bigger fish i would suggest a 2.5" jerkbait, but the water looks pretty fast, maybe try one in a slow pool.
  10. im gonna go with the spirex combo, great deal, would it be best to get a 6 or 6'6" rod , M or MH???
  11. thought id start a thread dedicated to trout, post your pics/techniques/stories,etc. i would aslo like to point out that my #1 trout lure has to be the rapala husky jerk in glass minnow. trout absolutly crush these things if you work them properly. i find that big trout will chase these cast after cast until you hook them, smaller trout also go after them, but they sem to give up after a few runs. all of my biggest trout have come on this lure. last week i was fishing a delayed harvest creek and i lost a MONSTER rainbow trout, i hooked him, then he broke the line and the rapala ws in his mouth. you could see him thrashing trying to work the lure loose. i was ticked!!! that was my go-to lure. i came back 2 days later and found my lure downstream caught against a rock!!!!
  12. i just bought some of this stuff, i plan on starting of opening day with it next week, we'll see how it turns out.
  13. im looking for a good spinning rod/reel combo. i usually just pick up a rod/reel that i think will do the job, i never looked deep into this. i heavily fish with soft plastics such as worms, grubs and lizards and love to fish rapala husky jerks, i basically never fish crankbaits or spinnerbaits even though i have some. i do alot of small lake fishing. i always fish from shore and i heavily rely on sight fishing, anyways my limit for this is about $100 what would you guys think? also which action and rod length would be best for this outfit?
  14. ok there is a chain of 3 lakes (small ones, almost like large ponds), in the 1st and 2nd lake i can catch bass pretty well, caught a 19" a few weeks ago. but this 3rd lake is impossible and there HUGE bass in it. There mostly near the lily pads, there very thick. i havn't been able to see any though as the lake was staind and muddy. i have a 6' spinning rod with 10lb test, are there any baits i could try throwing in there? i always fish from shore so i assume it would be quite difficult. could i use my trusty senko or yum zellamander? whats the proper way to fish this heavy cover? im telling you, some of these bass are bigger than some large carp, monsters. got to be 25"+ BTW ive tried plastic frogs with no success. here are some pics of those 3 lakes. http://www.county.allegheny.pa.us/parks/images/gallery/dl/lakes.asp the lower lake is the one which has huge bass but ive never caugh any, not even the tiny ones
  15. tubes, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits, no idea how to fish them , used them quite a bit, have never caught a fish on them
  16. i also might as well thow in the weather for tomorrow if it helps at all, High= 72, cloudy with few showers, chance of rain 30%, winds 10-20
  17. i plan to go up to my lake tomorrow. when i was there on weds. the water was muddy while the other 2 lakes were clear. it hasn't rained yet so im not sure if it will still be kinda muddy, if it is, what baits should i use? im used to sight fishing, so this will be new. thers lots of lilly pad on this lake on both ends, and the middle is pretty much wide open, remember im fishing from shore. its just a small local lake
  18. i have no idea if their spawing or not, it rained last night, and its dtrizzling and overcast today, im probably gonna go out for a while, any ideas on what to fish today? will they still be shallow? the water may be muddy.
  19. I live in pennsylvania, and there are 3 decent size lakes 5 minutes away from my house. Ive fished them for years, but the last two years, I have not caught a single bass. I usually catch about 15 or so(don't fish that much as i used to). I went with my dad last weekend. IT was a really sunny day with temps in the mid 80's. The water was clear and there were sunfish and A LOT of BIG bass right smack near the shoreline. man i thought i was gonna have a blast. As it turns out, every lure i tried, the bass ignored. I tried soft plastic jerk baits, worms, frogs, some topwater, tubes, lizards, shallow crankbaits, NOTHING worked at all. I mean there was a ton of bass up near the shoreline maybe ranging from 12"-20". My question is how the heck do i catch them? This isn't even a very heavily pressured fishing lake, most people go for trout and thats earlier in the year. Me and my dad were the only people there.
