Question About Keeping Fish In Livewell....not In A Tournament Situation
I lay mine in the grass long enough to snap a pic of the fish along with the bait and tackle I landed it with. I don't think it harms the fish in any way, certainly no more than the fight itself.

8:1 Baitcasters Help
yeah, I have a tat 8.1. I like it for flipping, punching, and frogs. I have a tat 7.3 for worms, jigs, and traps, and I use 6.3 reels for cranks, squarebills included, and finesse applications.

8:1 Baitcasters Help
I feel like I even need a 100mm handle with a 6.3 reel for deep cranks. Wouldn't even attempt it with an 8.1. Those are for jigs, etc. Even then, sometimes it feels like you can reel slow enough to slow drag a jig. It sure helps with taking up slack around cover or with c rigs, but there is a palpable loss of torque compared to slower reels.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
that's how it was when I opened mine. Aside from them all being dock rockers, anyway. I think my first purchase will be a random jig pack and some finesse jigs. Course, it is getting to be football season...

Does Anyone Else Care About Aesthetics Of A Combo?
Yeah, man, I've been eyeing one of those complete sets for a while now. I think the dark blue with the orange 6 pt drag star to match that sv spool would be sweet. Of course, once you do that, you could just about buy a new reel, but oh well.

Drop Shot On A Baitcaster?
That's why it's an indulgence. To me, it's worth it for the ergonomic and mechanical advantages afforded by casting gear. However, it is getting less expensive to go the BFS route. You can get a serious set up for about $350 if you shop around. I've seen Alphas sv105's go for $200 and major craft volkey bfs rods go for $150, both shipped. That's still a lot more than a spinning setup, yeah, but it is becoming more attainable.

Live Target Baitball - Baits
I haven't caught anything on that jerkbait, either. I used it quite a bit at first, but quickly lost confidence and now it just sits there.

I landed the first fish to bite that on the first day I took it out. Great jigs! They skip really well and come through slop like it's not there. Get the deep throat hook. Ultra sharp and there's no coming off of it. I will never even look at strike king again. I'm a Siebert man, now!

Joining Braided Lines....
what I find best is to use just enough of a mono backing equal in diameter to my braid to just cover the arbor of the spool. Then double uni knot to the braid and pack it on tightly all the way to the lip of the spool. If you need to spool on more braid do this: Figure out which part of the line is going to be shorter and tie that one to your backing. That way you're less likely to cast down to your connection to the rest of the braid. Then double uni knot, 8 turns each side, and spool the rest on. The reel on my jig combo is set up like that and I've had zero issues.

How To Perfect My Set-Up
no, a Carolina rig requires a heavy rod, preferably longer to take up as much slack as possible before making a sweeping hookset through a 1 oz sinker and 3-6 ft of leader. You can throw mojos, which is sort of a finesse carolina rig, but its not the same thing.

Inexpensive Prop Baits
That and the popper are the only 2 3db baits I don't have, but if all the others are any indication they are top notch in terms of action, durability, and everything else.

Chatterbait/spinnerbait Rod
I heard the mh/r tatula glass rods were awesome for that. Or if you don't like composite rods, the tatula 721mhrb or 711mhrb would be a solid choice. The 711 is the one I use, but I use it with braid for jigs, worms, and spinnerbaits, too.

G Loomis Gl2 Worth It On Clearance?
meh... Maybe for the $90 I've heard some talk about, but definitely not $120. You can get a lot more rod for less than that. They're heavy, but well balanced, they have low end Fuji guides, but the reel seats and handles are nice. They're okay on sensitivity, but nothing special, although the power is there, and they're magenta. I can't believe people were paying $200+ for those just because they're G Loomis.

Chatter Baits Vs Buzz Baits Vs Spinner Baits
I like spinnerbaits the best, too. I feel like they're more versatile. Bladed jigs are fun to fish, too, though. I don't even look at buzzbaits.
