  1. Im a fairly short guy- 5'3" . Im trying to figure out how I would work a frog with a 7'4" rod pointed at the water without 3' of the rod submerged. Infact, I have trouble even working a 7' rod this way. 6'6" seems best for my build, but unpractical to leverage a fish or drive home heavy frog hooks. Maybe im doing it wrong ?
  2. I had it trimmed all the way down and never really go to plane due to a fuel problem which is now fixed. But i noticed some bounce of the bow which lead me to investigate and now we are here. My prop is stamped 17-M. Not sure what that means or matters?
  3. Hi everyone. I bought my first boat (1986 - 18' winner bass boat) that was repowered with a 2000 Yamaha vmax 150. after doing some reading and measuring, it looks like my cavitation plate is 2" above the very bottom of my hull V, and I can only lower it by one bolt hole, which I believe is only going to gain me 3/4" . I read that the plate needs to be in line or within 1 inch of the bottom of the hull V. Is this boat going to be a porposing nightmare? At all speeds ? Just low speed? High speed ? Any suggestions ? thanks for any help !!!!
  4. Thank you! That was very helpful! Next, any idea where i can get a timer for my aerator? Its basically off or on right now. And i definitely dont want to keep turning it off and on, nor do i want it running steady draining the batteries.
  5. 86 Winner tournament. Yes, still the factory layout.
  6. Hi guys. Im sure some of you will find this hilarious, but after searching the web i still haven't found my answer so i have to ask. I've never used my livewell before, and i just replaced all the hoses, clamps, and aerator pump, as well as the flowrite valve. I would like to get a general understanding of its operation before use and so i dont swamp my boat! My fill and drain are both the same hose at the bottom of the well, with a flowrite manual open close valve. The aerator pumps in surface water for oxygen. If the tank overfills, it exits via the overfill drain towards the top of the well. Is this correct? My question is, and this may sound silly, i open the fill valve until its full, then close the valve, correct? Otherwise, water will keep coming until i sink? Or do i leave it open and the overfill drain prevents that?
  7. Note: there were a few drops of blood from the gills. Not much at all. Ive had fish bleed a hell of a lot worse and swim right off when released. Ive also had fish out of water much longer and had them swim away fine. I just dont get it.
  8. Hey guys. Yesterday I caught a 3.5 lb bass that wasnt hooked too deep. Not in the lip but not down in the throat either. Before I even had her landed I asked my partner to grab the scale and make sure it was powered on. She did. I had her out of the water less than 20 seconds for hook removal, weight, a second look of admiration and released. Only to see her float. I waded in, shook her, dunked her, moved her around but nothing. She would kick her tail every couple minutes but never did swim away. What would cause this? She was in less than 3' of water when hooked, and only out of water for 20 sec at most. Ive felt terrible since and I dont want to kill anymore fish if I can help it.
  9. Turns out I had a battery with a dead cell not holding a charge. Luckily i found the reciept and walmart exchanged it. Looking fwd to the next trip to see how performance improves.
  10. Good thinkin. Can someone recommend a reliable battery meter ?
  11. But if I were to add 2 more batteries wired as Numb showed, would I need another 2 bank charger?
  12. Just going by how long it took to recharge.
  13. Yes, Comfortably Numb! Thats what I meant! Now will that double the life or time of my batteries ?
  14. Let me first start by saying it is an electric only lake, so it was just trolling all day. 18' fiberglass Winner Bass Tournament from 1987. I dont know for sure the batteries were dead. Im basing that off of how long it took to recharge. (The charger instructions say 4-6 hrs recovery from a dead battery) it took 5 hrs to regain full charge. I dont have a battery life meter. The charger is charging from both banks. Minnkota Mk-220d brand new. The batteries are both brand new walmart everstart 29 or 31 series deep cycle marine. Both were fully charged the night before to going out. This was my first time using a trolling motor pedal. So in getting used to it, I spent most of 3.5 hrs using it. And the end of the day was spent making a throttle wide open bee line from one end of the 243 acre lake back to the ramp at the other end.
  15. Hm. Would I need a separate charger or could it work from the switch as well ?
  16. Hey all. Yesterday I took my new boat out for the first time ever to get the feel for it and the trolling motor pedal etc. It has a motorguide pro 75 24 v. 2 brand new full charged batteries. I bbasicaly drained them within 3- 1/2 hrs. Now granted I was using the pedal far more than I would probably use it on a normal fishing day. And I was fighting some rough wind and current. But my question is would adding 2 more batteries in series (or parallel? ) double the life or time it takes to drain them? I have a 2 bank onboard charger for the 2 existing batteries and a separate house battery for electronics with its own charger.
  17. Looks like its going in the center. Thanks guys!
  18. So I'm getting one of those recessed pedal trays to install my trolling motor pedal. It should be here in the next day or 2. My question is, where do you guys normally install these things? On centerline of the boat or off set to the right like and accelerator pedal in an automobile? If you dominantly fish off the starboard side, do you offset the pedal for that? I know most will say "put it wherever you want". And I know thats possible. What im asking is where the majority place theirs.
  19. So my onboard charger says "no need to unhook any thing while charging" and my trolling motor manual says "unhook while charging" So what do I do ?
  20. Well I have a med heavy rod as well. But it doesnt have the give in it I like for a crankbait rod, but the med rod is under rated weight wise. So thought I would ask those in the know.
  21. My med action rod is rated for lures up to 5/8 oz. I have some 3/4 oz traps I would like to use. Could I damage my rod ?
  22. So ive been working on this for several hrs this morning. Finally got the technique down and have been aiming at an off colored piece of grass in the yard and have been hitting it consistently. Then I started getting frustrated that I couldnt get anymore distance than that (and my girlfriend was laughing at me for how short of a pitch it seems). So I broke out the measuring tape and the bucket. Turns out that off colored piece of grass was @ 30 feet and im dropping this 1/2 oz jig in the bucket pretty good already! Thanks for the tips guys!
