Another Morning On The Pond
This morning was slowwww. Air was 50, surface temp was 53. Caught 3 small bass. Tried a lot of soft plastics with not much luck. I marked maybe 4 fish on my sonar, usually I mark a bunch. Do yall think the bass are tucked so close to the bottom it was hard to see them? Normally I can find fish on the sonar with no problems. 6 acre pond where the deepest part is 20 ft.

Opinion? Looking To Sell Cc For Bass Boat
I have a 2000 17' CC with a lot of extras on it and have been thinking about getting rid of it for a bass boat. I really want one at least 19'. I believe I could get 8,000 for my CC, so with your opinion, what could I expect to get with that. I have been looking at craiglist for boats around my area and it looks like a 90's boat. I know it is a broad question but if you are knowledgeable about bass boats, what would you expect to buy with 8,000(I might be pressed to sell the jon boat too if I could get something good with 9,000, so either 8 or 9).

Slow Day On The Pond
Went to the pond from 1-4pm, thought it would be decent due to the low pressure system overhead. I didn't take in account of all the rain that just passed but the fish seemed like they were in a high pressure system pattern, big time. I had about 10 short strikes, just nibbles on the tails of my finesse worms, weedless and c-rig. I finally put things together and moved my worms up the hook and line and caught a couple weightless by cover on the bank. Also switched to texas rig and fished cover in about 10' and caught some that way. I also sprayed some garlic scent on the worms. I was initially not happy about fishing with such little luck but then saw the bright side on how I was able to adjust and figure things out to be able to get some fish in the boat.

Specific Situation Question
I will have to try the flutter spoon next time. Yea the school was staying put pretty good. I moved back to another area a caught some smaller fish, then moved back to the dam and the school was still there. I figure they were content down there. I don't know how long the fish keep or change their color in reference to their surroundings, but an obvious observation, the shallow fish were real dark and the deep one I caught was very light. Does anybody know a time frame on color change? That could help explain how long the current deep fish were in the deep water.

Monticello Rec Lake??
Thanks, I went out there last Wed and had limited luck. One bass and missed 2. I did find some shad back in one coves and maybe 3 or 4 bass were schooling near them, but they didn't want to eat what I had. The bass I caught was off a main lake point in 20 fow.

Morning On The Pond
FelixOne, it is actually a strict private pond, it is in the family so I am able to fish it. Have you tried Gibson pond in Lexington? It is public and has a ramp. I went out there a couple weeks ago, most of the upper half is real shallow, but I caught fish on the banks. Also caught a pickerel. Way up the lake almost in the river there are a bunch of trees in the water and thick pads. Not sure if there are fish in the pads or not, but I did have a good bass chase a spinner bait out of the standing timber. I think I caught 4 or 5 that day.

Specific Situation Question
Thanks, I have to go back and find the big one. Somebody caught a 10lber a couple months ago, so I know they were there and I believe one was hanging around in that deep part.

Cold, Windy, And Sleeting. What To Do.
If the wind was more calm, after a cold front, slowing down and fishing the rocky points always produce for me, using shakey heads or carolina rigs. I usually do well off goat island and the points from pine island to the water treatment facility. But with that weather, there would be no way I would be on that lake. I have been on it in my center console in weather like that and it was sketchy at best. That lake can get real real nasty.

Specific Situation Question
While fishing thursday in a pond, I caught a bunch of 0-2lb bass in about 11'fow up towards the bank using c-rig worm and weightless worm. By the dam in about 20'fow (about the deepest part of the pond) I marked a large school (approx 20, relative for a pond) of bass in 20-15'fow. I caught one (3lbs) on a c-rig and had another chase the worm up and turn away at the boat when I reeled my rig in. Other than that, no takes. I tried jigs, t-rig worm, crank baits, jerk baits, and drop shotting. The two fish I saw from the school were decent fish, and the markings on the sonar showed that most were probably large fish as well. Is there any advice on getting more of them next time. I am assuming that they were willing to eat since one ate and another was chasing my worm. Is there anything I should try differently, lures or tactics wise? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Sorry for some pictures being messed up, they uploaded that way and won't stay saved when I edit them. Anybody have any tips for editing them so they stay the right way?

Morning On The Pond
Put the jon boat in the pond this morning, Columbia SC. Temp was 60, ater was 60. Caught around 30 bass between 7am and 1030am. Got a bunch on a weightless zoom finesse worm shallow and by shallow trees and caught the rest on a c-rigged zoom trick worm. No bites on hard baits. Most were in 0-10' fow, but down by the dam I got a school on the sonar in 20 fow, caught one out of it, missed one, and had one chase the worm when I was reeling it up. All the fish in the school seemed to be much bigger than the ones in 0-10'. Great weather and a great morning.

Monticello Rec Lake??
Has anybody fished the Monticello Rec lake in SC? Just trying to get some info on it and whether there is shad in there or not. Any help is appreciated~!

Bass Tackle For Red Drum/trout
Does anybody that fishes fresh and salt ever use Bass lures for saltwater, whether that is plastics/shakey heads, or jigs, or jerk crank baits, or spinner baits. Mainly for redfish and trout.

Fall Approach Without Shad ?
A lot of the reading I have been doing about fall fishing has to do with bass following shad. Well when fishing lakes without shad, and say the primary source is bream, do the bass follow the same patterns for the most part? To me, it seems like the bass would stage outside of depth ranges from the bream to feed one them. So am I right in thinking find the bream, find the bass? Do they still school up in the fall and chase bait if there are no big schools of shad to chase? I was just thrown in a loop on a 250 acre lake I started fishing and thought there was shad, but there is not, so I am trying to reconfigure my approaches.

Fishing New Water
Sounds good, I think I can have guest, so maybe in the future after I get to know the lake a little I can take ya out there.

Fishing New Water
Felixone, it is located on Fort Jackson, but in the training area out Leesburg rd. You can visit the fort jackson mwr website or search for weston lake for more information on it. I am military so I can fish it for sure, I am not sure if a non-DOD has to be with a military member or if non-DOD can fish it alone. You have to have a state license and a fort jackson license though. I have read up on Weston that there are good fish in it, so hopefully i'll have more info on it this week after I fish it.

Fishing New Water
What approach do yall take when fishing new water? Reason I ask is I want to try a new body of water, Weston Lake-Fort Jackson SC. It is about 250 acres. I don't know if it has shad in it or not, but it apparently gets up to 40ft deep, has submerged trees, ledges, creeks, grass, laydowns.... All the characteristics of a big lake crunched into a 250 acre reservoir.

Jon Boat To Bass Boat Conversion
Some of the images might be sideways and I can't seem to edit them correctly, they are in my gallery though. Up front there was already a bench seat, so I riveted L brackets to them and cut 2x4's and used those for the bracing, I did the same thing on the other side of the bench seat, but riveted the L brackets to the cross beam on the floor, and made a frame for the storage containers. (same thing for the back). Then I used cardboard to get a frame for the deck and cut it out. It was too big at first, so it took some cutting/fitting before it was perfect, then I screwed it on using deck screws and self tapping screws(to the boat). I carpeted it before I put it on. I added a couple of trolling motors, and bought another transducer for a Humminbird 597ci HD di I already had and mounted that on the bow. I also added a bilge pump in the stern. There are many ways to do it, just find what suits you and check out tinboats. Also don't use treated wood if it will touch aluminum, you can treat it yourself or glass over it.

Jon Boat To Bass Boat Conversion
I took a duracraft 1436 and added decks (front and back) and storage and all that, i will post pictures later. It can be a little unstable but its nothing you can't get use too. I mainly use it on ponds and small reservoirs. Right now I have a bow foot controlled trolling motor and fish finder up front as well as a transom mounted trolling motor which I will upgrade to a 20 hp when I get the funds. It will fish 2 people fine, but no more than that. Mine is on a trailer and if push comes to shove and there is no ramp access, I can drag it off it and drag it into the water and out and put it back on the trailer, but that is very difficult, so naturally I like to drop it using a ramp. I think if I had to do it over again, I would use thinner plywood and just fiberglass over it instead of carpeting, and use a nonslip surface paint like kiwi grip. That might take more time but it would reduce a little weight and make cleanup easy, and hooks won't get caught in the carpet.

Pattern Question
Just carp, bass, and bream. There are not much carp and I usually visually see them feeding on greenage by the bank. Most of the bass I catch are on weightless worms by the structure on the banks (lines in yellow), but these are the smaller bass. I know there are big bass in there because it was stocked and somebody caught a 10lber by the dam a couple months ago. I enjoy catching the fish but am looking for a little more size too, biggest I have caught was dragging a c rig in about 6' of water, it was 2 lbs. Also, after spawning, I have no idea where the bream went.

Pattern Question
So I am relatively new at finding patterns for bass and what not. So I was fishing a pond today on my jon boat, I recently put my humminbird 597ci hd di sonar on it so it has good electronics. I am in SC and was fishing from 12-4pm today. There is a front approaching and I was fishing through off and on rain. The pond doesn't have much structure in the lake itself but has submerged trees on the banks, where I catch some bass on weightless worms, and I did today too. To my main point, so I went over to the only real point in the pond and saw(sonar) a bunch of bass about in 4 ft of 6ft of water. I got 0 of them and threw lipless crank, c rig worm, t rig worm, rattle trap, spinner bait, buzzbait, small crankbait. I said screw it and threw on a deep diving crankbait and had a bite in 4 ft of water. I also did try different colors of the same lure or plastic. What would you suggest for those type of bass, or were they just not eating? I did notice that all the fish caught on the finesse worms usually chased the bait down. I was reeling it in fast after passing the strike zone and a fish came up and chased it but was spooked by the boat. Sorry for the jumbled paragraph, but if you have any input that would be appreciated.

Transferring Head Unit To Different Transducer?
I posted on here a couple days ago about a new mid level grey scale finder for the bow of my jon boat. I have a humminbird 597ci HD DI combo on my center console and was wondering if I bought a new mount, power cable, and trolling motor transducer, and put those on the jon boat, would I be able to just switch out the head unit for whatever boat I wanted to use?
