  1. My first tournment was the most anti climactic scenerio ever. I joined a club over the winter. Had 2 months to prepare for my first tournment. Stayed up late playing with my fishing stuff. Then layed in the bed with my eyes pegged open with anticipation for a few hours. The short night and no sleep didnt phaze me. I was focused dude! Jumped in the truck and headed for lake sardis. After the 3 hour drive at 3 in the morning I arrived at the ramp. Only to see 10 guys standing around shaking thier heads. With 30 to 35mph winds smackin the bank they canceled the derby. I was sooo disappointed! Crushed! I was ready to risk it all!I thought these guys fished rain or shine! Since then ive bought a boat of my own and fished several tounments. It only took one day on the water in my own boat with about 20mph winds for me to finally understand and agree with their call that morning.
  2. Wow a frog tournment sounds cool.
  3. Does anyone know of any tackle specific tournments out there? I've heard of senko tournments being held in the past but Im wondering if someone somewhere still puts one on? Or any other single lure tourneys? Sounds fun to me. An opportunity to get creative I imagine.
  4. Lil pig! Nice one. What was the water temp?
  5. How much are the old wiggle warts going for?
  6. Is there any other old baits that are no longer being made that have a reputation like the wiggle wart? Im intrigued by the idea of fishing with something I know you cant just go get a BPS.
  7. I found an old wiggle wart at a yard sale. Im pretty sure its an old one. It says wiggle wart on the bottom of the lip. All I know is these are good baits that arent made the same anymore. I put new hooks on it and caught a few 2lbers on it. I was under the impression it was an early spring cold water bait, but I cant help but notice how wide the wobble is. Doesnt this contradict cold water crankin' rules? Can anyone help explain this phenomenon? Or even the "old wiggle wart" phenomenon it self? What make them so good? Whats different on the new ones?
  8. What the entry fee for non boaters?
  9. Chickasha bass club and north okc bass club. Go out east of the city. Theres some really good lil lakes. Shawnee twin lakes, Sportsman lake, wetumka lake, and my favorite okemah lake. Its full of 4-6 pounders.
  10. Yup spinnerbaits. Ive done really, really well on suspending jerkbaits in the wind too. Stick your rod tip down low to the water while working the bait. Same goes for casting. Like a knock down shot when golfing. Cast with a very low trajectory and put a lil some thing on it. Not too much but give it a good sling. Then towards the end of the cast "try" to lightly pull the line thats out over the water down onto the surface to combat the line bow. As for boat control goes I like to anchor on these windy pre spawn staging areas. Then I just have to worry about casting.

Ive had several emegency baits and tactics in my bass fishing life. Most of the time, if I feel like I have no idea whats happening down there and the chances of getting skunked are pretty obvious ill put on a jig and start dragging it around steep breaks or drops. My thinking is, im not catching anything else so I might as well swing for the fences. If Its the same scenario but in a tough tournament and I think 4 or 5 lil swimmers is a better bet ill put on either a "lil dipper" swimbait or a similar 3-4 inch swimbait. ...Or I go old school on em'! A Tiny single blade spinnerbait or rooster tail will get some action but on a sunny day with absolutely no activity, even those hot days that the lake seems void of life, my favorite old school, bet they havent seen this in a while lure is just steadily swimmin' a 3/8oz kastmaster. Plus they fly so far that they can be fun to cast even with no bites.
  12. Twitch a jerk bait down and let it suspend right infront of her. Especially if it suspends nose down. Seems to work on those fish that have been hooked once already or have seen 20 different soft plastics since they set up shop in the shallows.
  13. Dropshot dropshot
