  1. a net, pair of sunglasses like elton john would wear in the boundry waters, caught the but section of a fenwick rod once.
  2. Carolina rig, no confidence I have never caught a bass and have been bit off 3 times by pike and never felt a thing just pulled it out of the water and my leader was was cut in half.
  3. my son is 4 and I have found that it works best to take him to the park and let him get as much energy out as possible first then go fishing. once we get in the boat we do a couple laps around the lake then hit a spot that I like to fish while he has a snack and drink. then once he starts getting bored we go snag some bluegill, as we get closer to sunset I try to get him pumped up for some topwater and I let him pick the bait and tell me where to cast. If I catch one I let him reel it in, he doesn't like casting for some reason, makes for a great night. My son has autism too and this strategy has worked great for us but not every time sometimes we only fish for 5 minutes but he always wants to go if I go with out him. I cant bear to leave him at home.
  4. I have the prosport 20 plus 3 bank charger usually when I hook it up I get the red and green light while charging and when it is done the red goes out and I just have the green. well the question is last time I plugged the batteries in it went to the green light right away but I know the batteries were less than half charge, are the batteries bad or the charger or what. batteries are all interstate deep cycle and less than 2 years old, I checked all the fuses and connections, what gives I just don't want to go out and have have the batteries not charged.
  5. I did pull the prop off it was clean but your right I have pulled some real birds nests out of there before.
  6. I have a minnekota vector 3x 80# trolling motor and ever since I got it (display model) it has had a lot of vibration I have just dealt with it the last 3 years, but now it feels sticky, when i turn it to speed 1 in the garage it takes a second to start spinning and when on the water I don't feel like I have the same power I used to. the batteries are about a year and a half old and keep a charge so they shouldn't be an issue. any one have any suggestions on what it may be? thanks
  7. I am done fishing for the next 3 months I will be duck/goose/deer hunting until the end of november then I have to make it up to the wife all the family time i have missed. I might get out ice fishing for pike or crappie a couple times but mostly the winter belongs to the wife. come bass opener may 20 something I am ready to hit the water!
  8. I use white spinnerbaits 90% of the time
  9. probably was, I would suggest you turn off the cartoon fish symbols on your graph too. it will be easier to tell what is what down there.
  10. I switch every 15-20 minutes too. I have 9 rods in the boat rigged for different techniques frog buzz bait shallow crank spinner bait x rap mid depth crank either dt6 or dt10 senko craw tube with internal rattle weight either t-rigged worm or lizard this works for me especially since I hate retying. once i figure out what is working I may have 2 frogs set up or if skipping docks is working maybe a senko and a fluke ready to go.
  11. I might some times go "oooh yeah" like the kool-aide commercials and when I let them go I will usually say thanks for playing.
  12. yeah thank god I wear glasses. I was fishing with my mom the other day and she was trying to do something and out of no where I got hit right in the center of my right lens with her lure.
  13. I hate to bash any thing but I had a gold series and it lasted all of 3 weeks. Now I try to baby my rods and all my rods are treated with care and I dont power set the hook. I was throwing a 3/8 0z spinner bait and snapped the rod on the hook set. that is the first rod I have ever broken in 10 years of "serious" fishing. maybe I just had a bad one who knows.
  14. nice fish and cute kid. nothing like a day with the little one.
  15. 2 lbs, 4 is a good fish 5 is great anything over 6 is unheard of in my boat. :-/
  16. well when I was a dumb *** kid I casted into a flock of geese in the parking lot and just held on while the goose flew away ripping drag until my line broke that was 20 years ago and I still feel like an ***. this spring I was in the boundary waters and I had a loon chasing my baby 1- right up to the boat I couldn't hardly reel fast enough to keep it away.
  17. I bought a bag last year on clearance and never really had any luck with it. this year my lake is over grown with millfoil so after loosing my two spro frogs I put the rage back on and man what a difference! I have gone through 5 bags in the last 4 weeks! I do have the problem with them rolling over but it doesn't seem to matter. once the hook rips out I rig them upside down anyway. great baits I seem to get better hook ups than I do with the spro frogs too, at least until I started bending the hooks out.
  18. if your finder is showing those cartoon fish symbols you need to turn that off. those cartoon fish could be anything, floating bit of weed stick you name it. go into the menu and look for sonar features i think and turn fish symbols off. it has been a few years since I dealt with a cuda though. once that is fixed you will notice you don't mark as many fish. what you will see is hash marks or arks which are fish. but really what you are looking for is structure, once you find that you have to combine the things you read here with what you are seeing on the depth finder to determine if it is a worth while spot or not. it takes a lot of time on the water to determine just what you are seeing. keep at it and keep a log to help remember key factors that made a spot good or bad.
  19. Minnesota, fishing has been pretty slow not getting numbers or size. I blame the weather, the lake I usually fish has so much milfoil in it all the good spots are almost unfishable I haven't been able to get a frog bite going and I have never had luck flipping I still try though. My deep fishing has been really hit and miss the lake doesn't have much structure so I have been fishing the 10-15 foot deep weed edge. I gave up on that lake and have been trying some new ones with mixed results. alot of the new lakes I have tried are like pea soup really green with like 2 foot visibility
  20. awesome! I remember taking my kid out for his first boat ride at 3 you have never seen such a big smile as him watching water splash up when we would hit a wave.
