How To Fish For Pressured Smallies
This past weekend I went and bought myself a pretty nice kayak. Went the next day to try it out in a small river that runs through a city next to my town. I fish here quite regularly...and so does everyone else. I have always bank fished it and had decent luck catching some small perch and some 1/2 pound smallies. When my friend and I floated down in our kayaks, we found a couple holes where we spotted smallies in the 2-3 pound range. The only problem is that they seem so pressured and skittish that they ignore anything thrown their way. Recent pollution of this river has killed the crawfish population. The few baitfish that I have seen were kind of a smoke minnow color. I caught some smaller ones on a 3 inch ghost minnow colored jerkbait but I couldn't get the bigger ones to even think about it.The water depth is from 1-4 feet where we saw the bigger fish. Thought about just trying a fat juicy nightcrawler next time. If anybody has experience with these kinds of fish and has any tips or suggestions please feel free to share! Any and all advice is appreciated! Thank y'all and tight lines!

Poppers?
I've had great success from poppers in still water and also rivers and streams. Usually, around any structure that is sticking out of the water or in shaded areas works very well. Try up under overhanging trees and through small current breaks. I'm quite lenient on the depths I fish with them but I usually base it off of where the fish are holding in the water column. My main focus is structures but try different things and learn from the fish. Good luck and tight lines!

What To Use In A Grassy Pond?
I fish a private pond that is, at most, about 6 feet deep. I usually bank fish it as it is quite a small pond. The other day my buddy and I got out on a small paddle boat and fished around the pond. The problem we seemed to have was that there is a very thick, slimy grass covering the bottom and the bass seem to sit above it waiting for salamanders to surface. I forgot to mention that this pond has a very high population of salamanders. We caught a few and hooked them by the bottom lip and fished them under a bobber and that seemed to work. The bass are just not very aggressive yet and a lot of times would only bite the tail off of the salamander. I have tried slow, finesse presentations but with the bass hovering over this thick grass, all that does is get my jigs and bottom baits covered in grass. I tried slow rolling spinner baits and we caught 1 on a small inline spinner but that was all. I need a way to stay out of the grass but be able to fish these largemouth slowly. Tips and advice are greatly appreciated and tight lines to everybody!

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
Confirmed today that it is actually large mouth in the pond. It was someone else I was talking to about small mouth and got mixed up info. Should I use split-tail flukes or swim-tail flukes? And also how should I rig it?

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
Any certain size and color fluke that excels? I'm sure I'll have to try some different colors but I'd like to get a good starting point so I don't have to go out and buy a bunch of different colors at once.

Triggering Strikes By Lethargic Pond Bass
A close friend of mine has a private pond full of bass (not sure whether large mouth or small mouth, he just recently had it stocked but I haven't caught any or asked him what he stocked it with. I'm 90% he told me once he stocked it with small mouth. I know, small mouth in a pond sounds a bit odd to me too but that's all the info I got.) He says the best thing he is able to use is simply Texas rigging a rubber worm and steadily reeling it through the water. It is still 50-60 degrees in my area and has yet to have a good hot spell. We're ready to catch some fish though. I have tried the Texas rigged worm, top-water frogs, salamanders soft plastics, spinner baits. They will approach and follow the top-water frogs and will almost hit it, but the slowly wander away. I am just wondering if you guys can help me out on directing me toward a bait that may trigger them to strike this time of year. Thank you to everyone and tight lines!

Claytor Lake In Virginia
I fish Claytor Lake on a regular basis during the spring and summer and have seen many anglers come through the cove I fish that are fishing a tournament. I haven't ever fished a tournament before and I have a buddy with a boat that I could enter with. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any amateur tournaments or simple beginners tournaments on this lake? And also if so, where and how to get information on entering. Thanks for any help and good luck to my fellow fishermen.

Lure Advice Needed
So this past summer, I spent much time wading in the New River in a part of Virginia, throwing spinner-baits across the wide, deep-ish areas of the river. One spot I liked in particular. It was a very wide spot in the river, where there were many large rocks in a straight line across the river. It could have been a drop in the river also, I was unable to tell. However, this created current swirls and swings and back-currents on the far back side of these rocks. I caught a few 2-3 pounders on this back area by reeling a large willow bladed spinner-bait along the back-currents and the swirls in the current. I didn't catch many or any big ones but i had a feeling there were more and bigger fish in here. I will go back this upcoming spring and summer and i was wondering if there would be any other baits i could try that wouldn't get carried away by the current first thing and would cover this large area easily and give me a chance to pull in some good smallies. Thanks, and tight lines to everybody.

Where Are The Creek Smallmouth This Time Of Year?
Just fished a small river/ big creek today that i have fished many times over summer and caught numerous 1-2 pound smallmouth. The waterway is generally probably 40 feet wide and probably on average 3-5 feet deep. Many calm deep pools and wide/deep rapids. Fished both and didn't even spot a single fish. Even sat and watched the largest, deepest pool waiting to see even the smallest fish and still didn't see a single bit of movement. Does anyone know what may be happening to these fish in this small stream during these cold months?

Winter Pond Fishing
So me and one of my good fishin' buddies are taking a trip up to about an 8-acre creek-fed pond this weekend and were wondering a bit about preferred tackle. Neither of us has done much wintertime fishing before but had done plenty of river and pond largemouth fishing in the warmer months. I know there are fish in this pond and have caught my fair share here over the years. We were both planning on each taking a fly rod and also a spinning rod. If anybody could refer us to what types of flies and lures or rigs to fish, that would be great. Air temperature will probably be high 40's. Not sure about water temperature. Thanks guys
