What To Use In A Grassy Pond?

Featured Replies

I fish a private pond that is, at most, about 6 feet deep. I usually bank fish it as it is quite a small pond. The other day my buddy and I got out on a small paddle boat and fished around the pond. The problem we seemed to have was that there is a very thick, slimy grass covering the bottom  and the bass seem to sit above it waiting for salamanders to surface. I forgot to mention that this pond has a very high population of salamanders. We caught a few and hooked them by the bottom lip and fished them under a bobber and that seemed to work. The bass are just not very aggressive yet and a lot of times would only bite the tail off of the salamander. I have tried slow, finesse presentations but with the bass hovering over this thick grass, all that does is get my jigs and bottom baits covered in grass. I tried slow rolling spinner baits and we caught 1 on a small inline spinner but that was all. I need a way to stay out of the grass but be able to fish these largemouth slowly. Tips and advice are greatly appreciated and tight lines to everybody!

Try a weightless Senko or a drop shot rig. I hope this helps!

Throw on a weightless lizard and fish it on the surface. May just be familiar enough for them to get it.

Zoom lizard on a dropshot maybe

Maybe a drop shot with the hook just above the grass line . Mojo rig maybe your next best bet , besides weightless fluke , senko set up

Take a picture of a salamander from that lake, then match the color and length to something from Bass Pro or Tackle Warehouse.  Use that on a shakey head or weightless.  Or use a weedless swimbait, like a Sick Fsh

I'm all for the dropshot or weightless lizard suggested, but always wanted to try R2S Nest Raiders...
