Took a chunk or two out of my prop this weekend
I hit an unmarked rock in the middle of the river. I fish in Black River called such because there is maybe in the direct sun, 18 inches of visibility. Anyway, I was not going fast, (thank goodness) but it kicked my motor up bent the skeg and gouged two of the tree blades I am going to grind the blades out smooth and balance them the best I can I just cannot afford a new prop right now. But, this is why I have been asking about the three types of rock guards that are on the market I have gotten some replies, with opinions on how well they would work but none from anyone who has used any Do any of you guys know a place that I could ask?

john boat vs. mini v
Depends. A V hull will be more comfortable in any kind of weather it slices the waves better, so if you fish on a lake, that's the way to go. A Jon boat will ride more shallow than the V, so you can go in much shallower places, so if you fish on a river, that's the way to go. Where are you going to have the boat the most? I got a modified V, kind of a mix of both Check this out, I have always wanted to try this I will someday http://www.unclejohns.com/jonboat/default.htm

Home-made cover support worked out great
I have a half raised deck in the front of my boat I would LOVE to raise it all the way up and make storage underneath. But my wife likes to sit up there on the rail as we go slowly up the river she would be able to do that if I flattened it all out So, there it is gotta keep the wife happy.

mounting a trolling motor help
My boat is Aluminum... it's just the size of the TM and mount... this is how I am going to do it.... just won't be able to get in one of the hatches and if sitting in the front, I'll have to be careful of my legs when the motor is in the up/stored position...

question about outbaords on a bass boat?
I've never heard that before here in PA. It's quite common to see guys drop their big fiberglass rigs in at a 10 hp lake and only use the trolling motor. I've never seen a WCO even second glance at someone with a larger hp boat as long as that big sucker wasn't running. I'm in NW PA by the way, maybe it's lakes in different part of PA that you refer to? Where are you from? I grew up in and around Meadville. I was with my uncle when I was a kid, when he got stopped for to big of a motor. It was at Pymatuning Lake, we never put the motor down, we used the troller. I never questioned it, just took the warden at his word. He said it was illegal to even be in the lake with the big motor on the boat, using it or not made no difference humm, I will have to look it up now

hand winch for trailer
If effort is the problem, they do make electric winches. As for the block and pulley, that, with one pulley would cut the effort in halfbut take twice as long to winch it in it's a trade off.

been thinking about a kicker motor
I have a 17' aluminum bass type boat it has a 60hp Evenrude on it. Some times all that just isn't needed. I fish the river far more than the lakes. I have been toying around with the idea of a kicker motor. I have a 10hp Johnson that runs good in the barn. But it is a tiller motor How hard would it be to convert it to set of controls I can run up to the dash? Is it worth even thinking about, or just too hard to do? I know I would need a Jackplate. How much do those run? I have a kid in collage and I am looking at retirement from the Army in a couple of years, so my budget it VERY limited Thanks for your help guys

question about outbaords on a bass boat?
I knew a guy once that had 9.9 stickers on his 25...... But I sure wouldn't want to get caught... I just picked up a "fixer-uper" 17' Aluminum modified V for $1500. I have to replace most of the deck wood and carpet, and I'll paint the hole thing, but it's fishable the way it is. It has a 60hp Evenrude on it (it is going to stay) but I was offered $1000 for just the motor the other day. Some day I may put a kicker on it.

I don't know about where you are, but some of the lakes in Pa, you are not allowed on the lake with more than the "allowed" hp... even if you don't use it...

mounting a trolling motor help
I just bought a trolling motor with on of those flip out mounts. Thing is, that it wont fit on the bow, there just isn't room there. The deal is, that no matter how I angle it, it either has the handle hanging over the side, and sits over a storage box, or is in the way of the pedestal seat. So, the question is; is there any reason I can't mount in at the rear like a kicker motor? I know I will loose some maneuverability, but I see no other way. Any other reason I don't know about as to why this is a bad idea? Thanks I do have a very small Shakespeare Wondertroll 606 I could put on the front in addition to the 55lbs Minkota on the back, but I don't know if the 606 will even move the boat... I'll have to test it out.
