  1. Where in Wi? Lake Geneva, Winnebago and Green Bay are the biggest SM fishery s I can think of on East side.
  2. I've never fished there, but guessing by current weather, I would say plan on post spawn.
  3. Sturtevant, Wi is home. I always hit Big Cedar in opening day. LM fishing in spring is awesome. Most rec boaters aren't out til June. June is time to hit Sturgeon Bay, Wi. SM fishing is really great. Also rotate in Winnebago chain and Peewaukee Lake. Never been west or North west, to little time, to many lakes.
  4. Braid is only way to go lighter the better. Google double surgeon knot also.
  5. I just give my wife a wacky rigged senko on a big bass Bobber. We fish the weeds and I rig it so the senko is about 6" above them. Cast it out. Count to 10, one wind of the reel, four to ten, repeat. It's easy for her to do and she can see the bite. Sometimes she catches more than I do.
  6. Not really. Trolling rods have pretty strong back bones. Mine are all 8' long. You could modify it, but easy to just buy a casting rod. How big are the grips?
  7. I always use backing. Just enough to cover the spool. When you hook that lunker you will know why.
  8. If it works and it doesn't cost me a weeks pay, I don't care what color it is.
  9. Umm....Honey....the guys say there is this new fishing rod. It's the best rod ever made. It's only $1000. Yeah NOOOOOOOO......
  10. Any thoughts on these aluminum Eva butt caps? I could get the green one to match rod. The handle is cork but I don't think it would look to bad. My concern with rubber is it may snag on sleeves or arm when casting. http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/Decorative-Butt-Caps/Heavy-Duty-Aluminum-Fighting-Butt
  11. They are listed in my order of preference. BPS Extreme being #1Sellus reel seat could be better. I haven't broken any of them yet.
  12. My go to baits in spring with a good 7-12 mph wind. Senko rigged wacky. Nail weights in ends. Big bass Bobber. Just drifting shallow flats. Keithe Poshe spinners add some action to the bait also.
  13. I only use Mono for top water because it floats. It also stretches a lot which is good for top water since it gives a delayed hook set. I use a 7' Med Mod BPS Carbonlite Rod, BPS Pro Qualifier 5.3:1 reel, and spiderwire 12# mono.
  14. I assume the new one would be glued on. Any recommendations on glue? You mentioned reusing the old rod butt. Curious how I would go about this?
  15. I think your friends maybe fudged their numders a lil. I have Triton TX18 with a 90 Etec fastest so far was 39.7, but that is fully loaded with gear. I'm adding a JP. Should bump me up a couple mph.
  16. All of my rods are in the 100$ range BPS Extreme BPS Carbonlite Powell Diesel Shimano Sellus Shimano Clarus (got in sale) Berkley Lighting Shock St Croix Mojo Bass
  17. Since Flippng and pitching is pure horse power I don't use real expensive rods. For 20# fluoro BPS Extreme MH 7' fast 3/8-1_1/2oz For braid Berkley Lighting shock 7' MH Fast 3/8-1_1/2oz Shimano Sellus MH 7'6" fast 3/7-1_1/2oz I don't fish big heavy matts up here though.
  18. I recently bought 2 BPS MH 7'6" Extreme rods. They are really nice. Here's the problem. From reel seat to rod butt is about 2" to long for my liking. I coulg cut off the rod butt section and install a new one, but fear I will ruin the rod. I've never attempted this before. How difficult is it? Any write ups on how to?
  19. I find a sweep of the rod horizontal is enough of a hook set, no matter how you rig it. Only time I vertically hook set is with a jig, and even that is more like a 45*. Those big hook sets you see on TV are for TV.
  20. Absolute best way to do it.
  21. Use a line Conditioner. I like KVD, but there are other good ones out there. I also like the Uni knot for braid.
  22. I just realized you said spinning rod. my mistake. This is a casting rod.
  23. I was looking for the same exact thing here is what I bought BPS CarbonLite 7' Medium Moderate action. Go check them out. It has the flex of Med Light with the backbone of Medium. $109.99 SKU: 2139100
