  1. Thank you for the responses. Dvt I have read many of your posts and responses and you always seem to have great advice and are helpful. The jig heads I throw range at 1/8 and 3/16. I have read many posts about mhx blanks that you comment on as well as rainshadow. Can you point me in the right direction with a blank. I fish a lot of deeper water with fairly long casts so I feel like I need something that is sensitive and has a decent backbone.
  2. Is it the general consensus that a ml rod would be better over medium. I have seen different comments through research for both and the use of an extra fast tip.
  3. I will be fishing very sparse cover. It will be a clear water lake with very little grass and a lot of rocks.
  4. I'm putting the cart before the horse and planning my second build before even starting my first. I am looking for recommendations for a shakey head rod. I usually throw 1/8 heads with finesse worms or 3/16 heads. I also have been using zoom trick worms quite often with better results than the finesse worms. My question is what is a very sensitive blank with the correct action and power that I should look to. I would like to keep the blank price under 150 but prefer the price to be around the $100 mark if at all possible. Also I am looking for recommendations on a reel for this rod, and I much prefer a casting reel. I have heard great things about a Shimano Chronarch 50 size but unsure. Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I will probably be able to build it Thursday along with a hand wrapper.
  6. I am working on building my rod dryer and purchased a 18 rpm motor. It's a tyc robust synchronous motor from eBay. I am going to use a pvc chuck but I need a little help on connecting the motor to the chuck. The shaft is 7 mm, I am looking for a coupler or adapter to get a bolt to connect to the motor. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  7. Thank you for the replies. It seems the general consensus on the Mhx blanks are very positive
  8. Thank you for the responses. I will be ordering this week and can't wait to start. Pictures will be posted as I work on it.
  9. I won't be using it too much for treble hooks. The majority of fishing I do is Texas rigs, flukes, pitching docks, spinners, and buzz baits. I throw a sammy periodically. Shakey head fishing is becoming my go to on the clear lakes in my area.
  10. I am getting ready for my first rod build and I'm looking for an all purpose rod blank. I know a lot of people suggest a kit but I prefer to pick my own components. I have looked at the Mhx blanks but I was wanting some feedback. The blank will be 6'6 to 7 MH with fast action. If all goes well with this build I will be working on a dedicated shakey head rod. Any input will be appreciated.
  11. ReidE started following All Purpose Rod Blank
  12. I have the Curado I and the ***. Both are awesome reels. The curado can be had for 129 and if you play sales and coupons then you can get the concept at probably 145. I would absolutely love another *** but wouldn't turn down a Curado. One consideration is line capacity for the Concept. Personally I don't mind the smaller capable some may. It can be upgrades to a larger spool but that would cost I think 30 more.
  13. The lew's tournament pro can be had for 129 new as well
  14. Curado for 129 at sheltons.. I purchased multiple times and great service
  15. Have a tournament this Saturday and haven't had a chance to scout and pre fish. Was hoping someone has some suggestions for this lake since I have never been there. Thanks in advance.
  16. I purchased one from Sheltons as well and I absolutely love it. Great real at an awesome price
