need a little help
I would say the rattle traps are a great choice, as well as a crankbait that will get to that depth when trolling.

maintaining a small farm pond
Harvest. If you don't like to keep bass to eat, maybe you have some friends that do? Although, then more people know about your honey hole Jason

How often do you go Fishing?
Get the little 2 man boat out everyweekend on the farm pond. 2-3 times a week bank fishing the different ponds/small lakes around here after work. I should start getting up early and going before work so it's not so hot, but i love to sleep ;D Jason

fishfinders
I recently purchased the Eagle Fishmark 320 (made by Lowrance)...it is a black and white screen, and i use it on my little 2-man boat. It works perfect. Screen is perfectly clear and gives me a great picture to go off of. The price was $150 Jason

Swim baits in stained water?
Where i fish, the water is very stained...about 8" of visibility from the surface. Will the tail of the swim baits put out enough vibration for the bass to find them? I've been wanting to try them for a while but don't want to waste money if i don't have a chance of getting bit. Jason Something like this...in a 5" version with a jig head (Hope that works)

on a new lake
As he said, i would start with weedy shallows in the morning. After the sun gets over head and it gets hot, move deeper. Have no fear of not having electronics. Rig up your rod with a carolina rig. Toss it out there a ways and start dragging it around. It will help you locate structure, drops, etc on the bottom. It's also a very effective way of catching big bass in the heat of summer. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Jason
