  1. thanks a lot.
  2. I figured this topic has already been posted but i didn't really feel like going through 117 pages to find it. I just wanted to know what is your pb? what did you catch it on? what time of year was it? released or kept? just let us know your story. now, for people who have websites, can you post a link please? Thanks for the time. My story: There is a little pond about 1.5-2 acres max that is a drainage of the main lake. It was early this year, not sure of the month/time ect. but i had on a little 4" clear/black flaked senko-wanna-be wacky rigged fishing from shore in about 4-5' of water off a tube. I wasn't gettin many good bites throwing parallel from shore, i had only caught a 4lber in 2-3 hours of fishing, so i just tossed it out in the middle and slowly worked it back. i got it about 15-20' in front of me and my line twitched so i let er rip....swung on and missed but i felt it had some weight to it, but didn't feel the hook so i ran slowly back to my tackle bag and riged up a 7" black/blue trick worm and tossed into the same spot and my line started swimming away so i let it rip for the second time and HOLY COW!! my drag was smokin! i started freakin out because fish don't get very big around here and my PB then was 5lbs or so, estimated, and i knew this was a little bigger. I finally wore her down and pulled her in and what a toad!! i figured her about 6lbs which made her my new PB!! about a month later fishin in the same pond, on the same tube i was throwin a little booyah pond magic black/red spinnerbait slow rollin it and i thought i had got myself on a snag, until the snag shook its head!!! my medium action ugly stik had enough backbone to solidly set the hook, but i wasn't sure about my 10# line. i set my drag a little loser and hollered at the kids fishin about 50 yds away that i had a good one on! i worked on not letting the fish get itself into the tube that had water rushing in it because that would pretty much end my line. :'( i walked off the pipe as i got her a little closer and saw here not as long as my other "hog" but she was thick!! didn't measure her girth but she was pretty darn fat. both fish were released.
  3. yes, great fish. that would be a state record here :-[ . If i ran across a bass like that i'd try to keep the fish alive as well as possible to get it legally registered as a record then get it released. I do agree about C&R, but that fish is a fish of a life time unless you live in cali. there is nothing anybody can do to bring that bass back to life, especially since its probly already been digested..... ;D i respect that you only keep a few bass a year and i do believe that helps a fishery. i don't keep any fish but i know others people that fish the lakes do so it all balances out in a way. If i would keep fish it'd be bluegill, catfish, or crappies. thanks for sharing the picture of YOUR hog!
  4. For hot days, i like to throw c-rigs around deeper brush piles. towards the evenings i like to slow roll spinners over weed lines. tawards dark, topwater around structure or grass lines you might have along the edges of your lake. fish grow faster/slower depending on your location and the room they have to grow. I wouldn't know how fast they grow in your area, well, i don't even know how fast they grow here :-?
  5. I'm 14 and from southwest iowa. i mainly fish the two local lakes here, and i ride my bike to one of them, the other is too far. One of the lakes is loaded with bass around 13-14" and big bluegills around 10" average. Lots of channel cats too. The other lake is good for catfish and loaded with crappie. I fish a little pond connected to one of the lakes in the early spring during the spawn. Also, my grandpa knows of some little farm ponds with some nice bass in them. Football has kept me busy lately, but i fish when i can. I hope to get the boat wet this weekend. 14' aluminum v-hull jon boat with a 65# thrust trolling motor, gets the job done here.
  6. i got skunked once this year BUT i only fished for about 20-30 minutes off of the dock. My baitcaster got all tangled up so i left. early this spring i did really well in a little 1.5-2 acre pond that is connected to the main lake. they didn't stalk it, but bass swam through a culvert to the pond. There isn't many fish in this pond, but they are mostly nice sized, a lot between 2-6lbs. did really well during the spawn. Threw em all back though. Most people were'nt fishin yet cause of the cold. Didn't keep me from fishin though ;D
  7. I THINK fish DO feel pain, but NOT in their mouth. all of my post is 100% oppinion. IF a fish can feel in their mouth, a hook gets shoved through so fast and it is so sharp, i highly doubt they feel anything. Their mouths are practicly transparent, and because of that i think they don't feel pain. even if they do, i will always keep on fishin
  8. Our lakes are full of old christmas trees cemented into 5 gallon buckets. They count for most of the structure. Since the lake was low, the edges had water weeds, i dont know what kind, all around it that hold bass early morning and late at night. Then they move off into deeper water to the trees.
  9. I get out there whenever I can. I have been busy with football and the county fair is going on this weekend. When I go its usually in the evenings.
  10. We've got a lot of gravel pits about 10 miles north of town that divers have came up scared because there were catfish as big as the divers. don't know if this is just a fish story or what, but there is also some giant bass in these things. A few of the gravel pits get fished pretty good, but some hardly get toutched. I have seen some giant fish, i don't know if they were bass or carp, or both, but if they were bass i'd be scared to hook into one of them!! I don't agree on closing those lakes just because of terrorism, thats just stupid. maybe they don't want osama fishing there ;D good luck with your petition Matt-Fly.
  11. KVD all the way. He fishes the same way I like to: spinnerbait as the #1 option most of the time. I like IKE too. I have a lot of respect for all of the pros, FLW or BASS, just because of making it to where they are.
  12. I've always had luck with a spook. always seems to work for me.
