Nrx 822S Syr Just A One Trick Pony ?
That's my point. I have heard reviews that if you were to get one Rod, either the DSR or SYR then the DSR was the one to get. However, I doubt the DSR has the backbone like the SYR to set the hook when Shaky Head fishing. While the SYR is sensitive enough to feel those light baits when drop shotting

Nrx 822S Syr Just A One Trick Pony ?
I tried the NRX 822s SYR tonight using a Shimano Stradic CI4+ and 7lb Sunline Sniper. First of all, the NRX is a great rod, it is so balanced and feels amazing. It can easily double as a drop shot rod as it is super sensitive. I'm not sure the Drop Shot rod would be as good as a Shaky Rod though as it might lack the back bone to set the hook.

Advantages Of Straight Fluro
I take it back. Sorry for the confusion, novice fisherman here, Fluro does sink but I have to use 3/16oz weights to cast it the same distance. My casting has improved with feathering the line as it hits the water so no more birds nests but I can't see a real benefit to straight Fluro over a braid/Fluro combo

Advantages Of Straight Fluro
I'm finding the opposite, the Fluro stays on the surface so my contact with the bait isn't as direct. I just love Sunline SX1, it is a step up from Power Pro

Advantages Of Straight Fluro
Hi all, I recently switched from braid and a Fluro leader to straight Fluro and I am so regretting it. I had a bird's nest for the first time and it doesn't cast as far and the line seems to float the drop shot out of position. I'm thinking of going back to braid with Fluro leader but before I do, what are the advantages of straight Fluro when drop Shotting using 7lb Sunline Sniper 7lb ? Thanks in advance Matthew

Nrx 822S Syr Just A One Trick Pony ?
Hi all, I recently upgraded from an Avid MLXF 6ft 9" spinning rod to the G Loomis NRX 822s SYR for Shaky Head fishing. It is night and day an improvement over the Avid. Now I'm looking for a Drop Shot rod but the NRX 822s DSR rod actually has a higher lure weight than the SYR. This has me thinking that the SYR might be better for Drop Shotting ? Let me know your thoughts. Matthew

Is A Shimano Stella Worth The Money
So I went with the DAIWA 13CERTATE 2510PE-H but some posts have me second guessing myself that I should have gone Shimano Twin Power 15 route. Can someone help and list the pros and cons of each reel ? For reference, I plan on using it for my Fresh Water Spinning setup for Large Mouth Bass on a clear lake without much weed using 16lb Sunline SX1 braid and either Sunline Shooter or Sniper 12lb Fluro with a weightless Or T-Rigged Senko. Thanks in advance

Sanity Check Soft Plastics Usage
Thanks kikstand. My thinking was to use a smaller hook and slightly smaller bait as a way to catch more fish. Thanks for the lesson.

What's The Best G Loomis Nrx Rod For Fishing A Weightless Worm (Senko)
Hi all, I'm a newbie to fishing, I have been fishing 3 weeks and I started out with the St Croix Avid. I just got the G Loomis NRX 822s SYR and it is night and day, so much so, I wold like to replace my St Croix 7ft MF with a G Loomis NRX but I'm unsure what is the one I should get. I plan to use this rod for spinning weightless worm fishing, using a Senko on a wacky rig. My lake is pretty clear and not really know for huge bass and not too much weed. Thanks in advance for your help. Matthew

Shaky Head Vs Texas Rigs
Hi all, Apologies for the basic question but aren't Shaky Head and Texas rigs basically the same thing ? If not, please let me know what the differences are and what the advantages and disadvantages to each would be. Thanks Matthew
-
Sanity Check Soft Plastics Usage
I find a Senko too thick for Texas, my bite ratio dropped but a Standard Roboworm too slim that's why I opted for the Zoom Finese worm, it is a little thicker and 0.5" longer to try and tempt the bigger fish

What's The Best Braid For Shallow Diving Cranks ?
I plan to fish this technique with a St Croix Avid 6ft 8" Medium Fast Action. I have 15lb Power Pro on a Shimano CI4+ now but I thought there would be a specific braid for this purpose ? I switched from Power Pro to Sunline SX1 on my Shakey Head rig and I like it better. It is just super smooth casting. Does Sunline have something better for this purpose or Toray ?
-
Sanity Check Soft Plastics Usage
I use smaller lures as my lake isn't known for big bass plus being new to fishing, it is fun to catch a few rather than wait for the elusive big one.

What's The Best Braid For Shallow Diving Cranks ?
Hi all, I like the casting ability and lack of 'bird's nests' because I'm a newbie to fishing so what braid would you recommend for shallow to medium diving cranks ? Thanks in advance Matthew

Sanity Check Soft Plastics Usage
Hi all, Being 3 weeks into fishing, I thought it a good idea to sanity check my soft plastics usage so here goes; * Drop Shot, size 1/0 drop shot hook with a strike king 3x elaztech finesse worm size is 4” or KVD Drop Shot Shad 4" Reason: I think the size goes well with a 1/0 hook and these are the most floaty bait * Shaky Head, shop bough jig with size 2/0 hook and Roboworm straight tail 4.5” Reason: This bait is slimmer than others so when skin hooking, I find it is easier to set the hook plus the Roboworm’s tail floats nicely * Wacky, size 2/0 Finesse Wide Gap and Senko 5' Worm Weightless Reason: is there anything else for this style ? * Texas, size 2/0 EWG Worm hook and Zoom Finesse Worm 4.5” Reason: Like Goldilock’s quest for the perfect porridge, I find these just right; Senko too thick while Roboworm too slim. Being a newbie, please do not hesitate to let me know if something in my approach is quite right or there are better options out there. Best wishes Matthew

What Should You Spend More On, A Rod Or Reel
Hey Hank, You are the exception, how come you go for a more expensive reel ? What you got ? Mattgew

What Should You Spend More On, A Rod Or Reel
Thanks guys. Rod it is The Shimano CI4+ is a good reel. The reason I ask is that I got my G Loomis NRX 822 SYR today but the Daiwa Certate I was going to pair it with is still in transit so I matched the rod with the CI4+ and it worked well. The NRX is night and day an improvement over the St Croix Avids while the CI4+ I didn't have issue with. The St Croix Avids balance is off with the CI4+, its too tip heavy with 6ft 8" to 7ft rods. The balance was perfect with the NRX. One quick question, what's the better reel; Shimano Vanquish or Diawa Certate ? Diawa specs; Model Retrieve Rate Gear Ratio Weight Max Drag (kg) Bearings 2510PE-H 90 6.0 240 7.0 10/1 Shimano Vanquish Model Retrieve Rate Gear Ratio Weight Max Drag (kg) Bearings 2500HGS 88 6.0 195 4.0 12/1 The Certate is $100 cheaper

What Should You Spend More On, A Rod Or Reel
Hi all, I'm talking Shimano CI4+ or Stella reels and St Croix Avid or G Loomis NRX. Would you be better getting the G Loomis NRX and the Shimano CI4+ Or the St Croix Avid and a Stella ? Appreciate your feedback. Matthew

Best Shakey Rod For Bass - Money No Object
The G Loomis NRX is just in a different class to the Avids I have been fishing. The balance and sensitivity is just so much better.

Best Megabass Rod For Drop Shot
I can't believe an Engima rod is better than a Megabass based on the significant price difference. I think it's more about what he gets paid. Just looking at the specs, the Megabass look to be more sensitive. When it comes to looks then no contest, the Destroyer Kirisame 6'10" Prime Stinger looks awesome.

Best Megabass Rod For Drop Shot
Hi all, So Aaron Martens is the drop shot king so would you go for the Destroyer Phase 3 6'10" Aaron Martens Limited with his name on it or try the Destroyer Kirisame 6'10" Prime Stinger ? Anyone with any experience of either rod, let me know what you think and what you pair it up with ? Regards Matthew

Is A Shimano Stella Worth The Money
I read that for baits fishing on the bottom then a higher gear ratio is preferred. The highest in a 2500 sized spinning reel seems to be 6:0:1 so I went with the Certate. $280 delivered which is $70 more than the Stradic CI4 so fingers crossed it works out. Thanks all for your help.

Is A Shimano Stella Worth The Money
The Certate has one more bearing than the Twin Powers, weight and gear ratio the same. So I have decided on the Diawa Certate but what is the preferred Gear Ratio for Shakey Head ?
