  1. I've heard many people describe the Revo MGX as a finesse LP reel but not an all-purpose reel. What exactly makes the MGX a finesse-only reel or any reel a finesse reel? I like my MGX on my Dobyns 705 because I can use it for medium to heavy jigs, Carolina rigs, t-rigs, while also throwing hollow body frogs long-distance.
  2. Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate it.
  3. I did too. Until the 6th sense lipless 70s came out. I didn't catch any huge ones, but lots of numbers.
  4. I love my new STX spinning reel. If you can, try an STX or a premier and compare it to a stradic. It seems like the majority in this forum choose the stradic and I'm sure there's good reason for that, but it's your purchase and you are the one that will be using it.
  5. Benthinkin, do you want info on a baitcaster or spinning mgx?
  6. No I put a few drops of oil on it. I only grease the gears, excluding the worm gear.
  7. What's the reel? I'll consider the next time I "need" another reel.
  8. Agreed, but I clean my reels about once every 6 months and I figured that would get a lot of the grime and debris out. That being said do you think scrubbing with a brush and dropping oil is still better that blasting it with scrubber and oiling?
  9. I have the LP MGX. I only have a revo sx, and a silver max to compare it to. I don't have any other high-end BC's to compare it to as to whether it's worth retail price, but I will say that I can confidently cast almost any bait from weightless to heavy with ease. It is so smooth and backlashes on 30-50 lb braid are almost nonexistent. I absolutely love the reel. Let me know if you have more questions and I'd be glad to give my honest opinion. I have never used the MGX spinning, but I just picked up an STX and it is hands down the best spinning reel I've owned/ used. Maybe start there and see if you need an MGX? One nice thing about the MGX is that it comes with a spare spool, if you need one.
  10. Has anyone tried using gun scrubber on the worm gear? I can't see it hurting the worm gear as long as you oil it afterwards, but I don't know what it would do to some of the other plastics, metals, etc on the baitcaster.
  11. Are you wetting your line when you cinch the knot? Are you checking the knot strength frequently?
  12. You can use them as notes. I'll refer back to a certain outing and see what the date was, weather, what setup i used etc. believe me, it's not to look cool, my wife thinks I'm a nerd.
  13. What you are referring to is called "looping" and GoPro most definitely has that feature- I use it all the time. The most useful is 5 minute loops but I believe it does up to 20-30 minute loops.
  14. I have not noticed having less sensitivity with a heavy action rod. I have a Mag Heavy 705c and I guarantee it's more sensitive than my MH ugly stik. Also, I don't have much experience with Dobyns rods since I only have 1, but I've heard they are a little bit on the lighter side as far as power goes.
  15. Use a fly rod and tie your own flies.
  16. I even like a 7.1 for slow rolling a spinnerbait on the bottom.
  17. I will be getting a 6'9" ML Xfast Avid X this winter. I have been researching dozens of reels and broke it down to two: Abu Garcia Revo STX20 and the Shimano Stradic FK 2500. I have felt a stradic before, but kinda forget the feel of it and I don't have one available to test. I tested the STX20 at the store on the demo model and it feels pretty good. On paper it looks to me like the STX blows the stradic out of the water, but then again, that could just be Abu's marketing that is selling me. Could someone break down the differences between the two reels for me? It's hard to tell the difference because each company has their own terminology and "technology" Thanks, Steve
  18. Haven't been on in a while, sorry for viewing these late. Yeah HJ= Rapala Husky jerk. Hopefully I have better luck next year. It was an overall productive year for me. I've learned a lot. This is the latest I've ever fished for bass in the year. I have a ML avid X en route for XMAS so I will be doing a lot more finesse applications.
  19. Thank you sir!
  20. This would be my definition of a large bass:
  21. Thanks!
  22. That's ok. It's not looking too promising.
  23. I volunteer at the VA and show vets how to fly fish and how to tie flies. A lot of landowners are very generous and let us fish their ponds. These ponds are barely fished. Everything I threw, including pretty big poppers were annihilated. Not just by bass, but slab blue gills too. You feel like an absolutely pro at those small lakes/ponds.
  24. Stone cold killer....
