***dobyns Champion 704C***
After doing the best research and without actually being able to test out many rods due to lack of availability near me, I have decided on the Dobyns 704c- a 7ft Heavy action (1/4-1oz) fast action rod. Im re-posting from another thread as it was starting to drown out. -I plan on using this for 1/2 oz jigs, 3/8 oz and up texas rigs, and other multitasking such as frogs, light swimbaits, etc. -I will be primarily using this rod from a kayak, thus the reason why I want it in 7 ft. - 80 percent of the time I will use this rod for jigs and soft plastics. Are there any last minute reasons why this rod wouldn't be suited for what I'm using it for? Any reasons why this rod would be a good choice? I plan on ordering this rod by the end of day. Thanks!!

Best Rod Under 220
I think I have it narrowed to Heavy ***, MH St Croix, and Heavy dobyns all fast action in the 7 foot range. Can anyone compare and contrast some of these for me?

I wish everyone would just say the same rod and make this easy for me. I guess that's what also makes this exciting lol. I have never even heard of the KLX, I'll have to do some research. thanks- Spinner Bait On A Jig Rod
I'm agreeing with you. My objective was to discuss any benefits or disadvantages of graphite spinnerbait rods vs other types such as glass.- Spinner Bait On A Jig Rod
Yes, I would think twice about it because I'm not sure if a glass rod would provide more advantages than a graphite with spinners . I get what everyone is saying since it is called a "worm and jig" rod. That is the trendy thing to do now I guess.- Spinner Bait On A Jig Rod
I have a 7'0 MHF Shimano worm and jig rod. I really liked the sensitivity that I had while grinding the bottom or dragging through weeds. Are there any downsides to using a graphite rod for this application? What do you all use for your spinner bait rods? Thanks, Steve- Heavy Mainline Light Leader
Is there any benefit to using heavy mainline and a much lighter leader? I understand using 30 lb mainline and using something like a 12-17 lb flouro leader. The reason I ask is because I saw someone fishing a drop shot with 65 lb braid with a 10 lb leader? He told me it gives him better sensitivity for feeling bites. Is there something I'm missing?- Best Rod Under 220
I fish primarily out of a kayak, do you think a 7 foot rod would suit me a bit better. Maybe, a Dobyns champion heavy 704C???- 1 Fish = Fun Jig Fishing Day
Good work!- Best Rod Under 220
I am so undecided on a new rod that I will use for 1/2" oz and bigger Jigs, 5-6+ inch worms and 3/8+ T-rigged soft plastics. What is the best rod as far as lightweight and sensitivity in a MH or preferably a Heavy action that is under $220? I was looking at Avid X, E6x, and Duckett rods, but I'm sure there are more out there. I don't have many stores near me that have all of the rods I've been looking at, otherwise I would test them all out. Thanks- Duckett Ghost
I will keep that in mind. It might take me a few weeks to decide though.- Duckett Ghost
Is that the same with the ghost? I almost always use a flouro leader. Are the guides that small that you cant tie on a leader with a double uni?- Duckett Ghost
Any experience with a Micro Magic? I am also considering that one...there are just so many to choose from....- G6X Vs Avid X
Thanks for the input guys!- Losing Fish Kayak Side
Ok cool. I'm going to get a few with my next Tackle Warehouse order. I am thinking about dedicating a Shimano sellus MH and an older silver max reel just for spinner baits. Thoughts? What size line should I use? The only thing I liked about that braid was that I had A LOT of sensitivity will slow rolling the spinnerbait along the bottom. That is how I've been catching most of my fish.- Losing Fish Kayak Side
Do you think mono or co polymer would be better?- Losing Fish Kayak Side
I'm using 30 pound power pro with a 3 foot 15lb seaguar flouro leader.- Duckett Ghost
I know there have been posts about the duckett ghost before. I am curious how this would be paired with a Revo MGX reel. I know thats a bit of a mix match but after spending 350 bucks on a reel, I don't feel like spending a ton on a rod too. I can definitely afford a better rod if neccesary but I currently have a Shimano sellus paired with the revo MGX, so how much better would the ghost be than a MH 6'10 fast shimano sellus? The ghost isn't great looking, but I compared it to the Veritas or whatever it's called and it was sooo much lighter. I plan to get the 7'3" duckett ghosty in heavy action for jigs and plastics. Thoughts?? Thanks guys!- Losing Fish Kayak Side
Well, I attempted to add a trailer hook using a circle hook that I have. The eye wasn't big enough so I fished the same lake today without one. I Had one bass on a drop shot that got off. Had a really nice bass on a spinnerbait that spit the hook after first jump. My hookset couldn't have been better. I never have had hook set issues.... I completely forgot to double hook set and I pulled my rod to the side during the jump. My buddy caught 5 today ( none yesterday) on a small shell cracker type swim bait with a trailer hook. He didn't have any issue with the fish spitting his hooks, although his bass were smaller. Could the wind blowing my 45 lb kayak around while fighting a fish cause this problem? I'm really struggling here...- Losing Fish Kayak Side
The spinner baits are brand new and the hooks are really sharp. I'm using a medium heavy rod that I use for jigs, I'm giving a pretty firm hookset, probably not driving the hook home like I would with a frog or Texas rig though. Any recommendations for adding a trailer hook? Like line, treble hook size etc? - Best Rod Under 220
