  1. Sorry, the mobile version of this is kind of difficult. This should be in the general forum.
  2. I Had a descent day fishing but landed none. I caught about 10 bass fishing in about 5-8 feet of water. All fish were barely hooked and shook off right alongside my kayak. The water was murky. About 1.5 max visibility. I tried to speed up, slow down my retrieve and changed to brighter colors and added vibration in the mix. What did I do wrong? I was catching the fish on a white spinner bait and a shad colored no rattle lipless crank from 6th sense. Also lost a nice 3 pounder after the first jump...I tried to flip my rod to the side but he just shook free....:-(
  3. Thanks for the info. Any input on reels to pair it with? I was thinking a stradic but I'm not sure I want to spend quite that much.
  4. I haven't really messed with flippin' jigs before. I have a vertical eye on the jig which I thought would be good for thicker vegetation. I wasn't very impressed to say the least. I was throwing it into thick pockets of matted vegetation and they either weren't penetrating enough or I would pull up a pound of salad each attempt. Should I just stick with flipping a beaver style bait on a flipping hook? Or can someone help me improve my technique or setup? Set up MH 7ft rod, 15lb flouro on 30 lb power pro, revo MGX reel. bait: terminator 1/2 oz flippin jig
  5. I've narrowed my rod serach down to two: G Loomis g6x and St Croix avid X (spinning) Can someone list pros and cons of each and possibly point me in the right direction. I plan on getting a medium light fast action, spooling 8 lb test on something like a stradic spinning reel. I plan on using this rod for drop shots, wacky rigging, and small rapalas 1/8-1/4 oz.
  6. I have a tendency to fish and once I locate a fish, I forget where exactly I was at, what retrieve or technique I used. Any advice for that lol?
  7. I was hoping to get a little more input from people .....lol
  8. I have a garmin echo 150 portable fish finder. I have a really hard time figuring out what's what. I don't see arches like I see on youtube videos of nice fice finders. I see blobs, and I struggle with staying on a spot and marking it when I drift off...
  9. ***ALSO: I have 3 rods that I take with me to the lake and 2 of them make it into my kayak. I have a 7 ft MHF with 30 lb braid with 7.1:1 revo mgx 6.5 ft medium spinning 6 lb braid 7'4 crankin rod MM revo sx 6.4:1 Which should I take with me and what should I tie on? Should I be fishing like its summer or fishing like its fall? I know these are a lot of questions but I'm trying to take as much trial and error out as possible.
  10. Would someone please view the attached map and tell me what I could've done better. I am attaching a lake depth map that I've located and updated it in paint: my route is in red, the areas I fished with a red circle, and the fish I caught at particular areas with blue numbers. I only caught three....i know. **I was unable to locate the map prior to fishing. The first 3 spots on my route I caught the first fish using a 1/2oz white spinnerbait. The skirt fell off eventually and I didn't have a replacement (I'm fishing with not many duplicate lures from a kayak.) After the first 3 spots I switched to a 3/4 oz lipless sebile seeker and a jig with craw trailer. Caught nothing until I made it to the deepest end of the lake. Switched to a 3" swimbait and a drop shot with 3" senko. Caught a 1lb bass on swimbait labeled "2" in blue. After fishing another 30 minutes in the general area, switched swimbait out for red lipless crank. Caught bass number 3 on drop shot rig 3" senko. Switched to DT10, DT16- nothing Switched to 5 inch hellgramite on dropshot nothing. Specs: Rainy, Cloudy, water temperature on sonar 74 degrees, 5-7 mph winds. Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks in advance, Steve keystonefloat1.pdf
  11. Keep us posted on how you do and what you did!
  12. Is there a specific reason why you say that? What would you recommend? I was also looking at at croix in the less than 200 dollar price range.

  14. Does anyone have any experience with the GL2 Drop shot spinning rods by G. Loomis? I am considering getting one, and like the feel. I just would like to know how it performs for different finesse techniques on the water. Thanks, Steve
  15. Get everything ready to fish at the end of each fishing trip. Then all you have to do is pack and leave. If you have to figure out which baits to bring, outfit your rods, etc, you waste a lot of fishing time and you will feel rushed instead of relaxed.
  16. I think if you are unskilled, live bait will catch more than artificial bait. However, there are times when artificial lures are better. Like this weekend. I caught 5 white bass and 3 freshwater drums in Lake Erie on a lipless crank. Everyone else was using worms or minnows and caught NOTHING. Also, I think the biggest thing is that its more satisfying catching a fish, knowing that you are the reason the fish took your lure. Instead of sitting in a lawn chair, drinking a beer, and reeling a fish in.
  17. Perch are biting in 60 - 65 ft. That's all I know... I'm here right now- and no I don't have a boat...lol
  18. Well... Fishing has been a bust from shore so far. I cast in all directions as far as I can with a 3/4 lipless crank. Count it down in all directions. 5-6 feet max. Couldn't find any structure whatsoever. Hopefully ill have luck at a long pier that I scouted the other day.
  19. Yeah, this isn't a fishing trip. It's a trip where I just so happened to bring my rods along haha. What setups, lures, techniques, etc? I'm guessing I would be targeting smallmouth? I've never really fished Lake Erie before....
  20. I'm fishing this area in Lake Erie from shore that I've attached. Where would you fish? Also I may not be able to venture far from the piers near my location on the map. How would you fish that? The deepest I've been able to cast to was about 6 feet of water.
  21. I do not plan on buying a boat for still another few years. I was looking at the Tracker boat 175 txw's. http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3880 The issue is that most lakes I fish are 20HP or under. Would this be an insufficient motor for this type of boat? Would another type of boat be recommended? I also fish Lake Arthur which is a fairly large lake, but it is still limited to 20HP.

Thanks for the heads up. Keep the companies coming if there are still more out there. -Steve
  23. Are there any tackle suppliers that do a Veteran's Discount? What are the stipulations?
  24. I wish I had that problem. Pike are so incidental for me and they are so cool to catch!
  25. Since the hook was through the jaw and into the eye, I couldn't smash the barb down. That was the problem I was having.
