Chinese Reels
The only problem is that some (?most?) of the major names are being manufactured in China. Maybe someone could buy one for $25~30-NOT IT- tear it down and compare with a [name brand here] take photos and compare materials. We know they are awful, but saying is not enough; quantify. I would like to see this. When I see "ball bearings" on no name reels I assume the worst. It appears that China's business model is to make things that fall apart then the consumer is back in the market for another reel. The next time we going fishing we have to buy another reel that is MOST PROBABLY (statistical basis) going to be "Made in China." I am DONE with Zebco for this very reason; junk components and no replacement parts. Can't say it enough...you get what you pay for. ABW that is your hands from cleaning fish yesterday. Just kidding.

Quantum Hc2 Trigger
I did catch two fish on it, so spending a lot on a reel is not completely necessary. I am not familiar with spinner type so I simply wasn't sure what was proper operation for this model. I believe it was 1994. I would take it over a newer Zebco equivalent. They get cheaper and cheaper every day!

Quantum Hc2 Trigger
Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I believe it is an older one. Got a Quantum Lite rod and the reel at a thrift store for $10. What threw me off is that some users on youtube do not even have a trigger on their spinner type...all manual. The trigger on this one will depress when the bailer is opened manually. When the bailer is closed the trigger acts like it is hitting something inside and the bailer of course doesn't flip open. Guess I will have to open it up and see. Error in my initial post: When I open the bailer manually and press/pull the trigger it does NOT act like a brake.

Quantum Hc2 Trigger
I bought one of these today, but the trigger does not open the bailer. Is this the way it should work? When I open the bailer by hand the trigger will act as a brake. Relatively new to spinning reels. Thanks for any help.

Baitcaster Reel Purchase - Need Suggestions
Thought I would post an update. I have fished this reel for about 12 hours now off my yak and REALLY like it. I especially like that it is LH, despite being right handed. On 10 my 9 year-old can work it pretty well. The only thing I wish I could improve would be it's ability to work with my featherweight lures. Can whip a 1/2oz frog almost across the lake though. Thanks once again for the suggestions on this reel.

Baitcaster Reel Purchase - Need Suggestions
Appreciate the help everyone. I am sure this Daiwa will be light years from the 33 and 733 from the '80s that I am using now. Can't wait to feel how smooth it reels relatively speaking.

Got the Lexa 100HL. I will have to adjust to the left-hand reeling, but that shouldn't be a problem. Will checkout the carbontex washers.

Baitcaster Reel Purchase - Need Suggestions
I am in the market for a decent reel and was hoping to get a few suggestions from those more experienced, as I am not very experienced. I am looking for a reel that has an aluminum body, brass gears, around 6.4:1 ratio, quality bearings and a magnetic brake. I came across the Lew's SSG1H that has these features, but was wanting to spend a few dollars less than what I am finding the Lew's SSG1H reels for ($85.) Can anyone suggest something comparable that sales for a few dollars less? Thanks for any help.
