Looks Like I Will Be That Guy..
okay so, ive made a few posts the past 2 weeks about spinning rods and reels. eventually i bring up the topic of "choking points" and it never seems to really get elaborated on.. so here it is... Am I the only one who checks for the choking point on their spinning rods before buying? a little insight on this subject matter... the choking point on a spinning rod is measured with your reel mounted to the rod with the spool fully removed. you then align the spool axle with a straight edge (i.e. a door, counter, table, work bench etc). with the naked eye, line up the spool axle with that straight edge as best you can. at that point, your rod will eventually intersect that line, and will cross over, or hang off that edge. wherever your rod intersects the straight edge is the choking point of that rod and reel combo. the more straight the rod is to the edge, the better that reel will work on that rod. anyways, the reason for this post is not just to see who else checks this, but to see if anyone has suggestions for good, great and perfect rod/reel combos. i went ahead and bought a daiwa lexa 7'3 spinning rod and cant find a reel that works well with it. (im sure the lexa line of reels are the right match but my pockets currently have some holes) i have a shimano sahara 2500 and new daiwa revros 2500. i dont need a bigger reel because i dont need all that line capacity. and id like to keep it all light weight. but if a 3000 series reel will fix my problem then so be it! i am open and interested in hearing about your combos and how well they work together, especially regarding the choke point. i used to have a 7ft abu garcia vengeance spinning rod, with a penn fierce 3000 reel. quite heavy, but the alignment was terrific, the choking point was nice and high up on the rod, but ive moved on to lighter and better things now! so please, pardon my obnoxious, continuous phrase use, and lets hear it guys!

Anyone Tried This Reel Before
i do prefer medium to smaller sized reels, for bass. 3500 in some brands would be the highest id go, otherwise im a 2500 3000 kinda guy. i dont need a whole lot of line capacity. i put backing on all my spools. i mostly fish from the banks, and dont have any large, deep bodies of water near me. even so, i dont get to go out much as it is. im looking for a reel that ties together good with my daiwa lexa 7'3 mh spinning rod. i always check the choking point on the rod, using the spool axle. sad to say, i traded an unused rod i had for this brand new daiwa revros reel, and no go. not a good setup with my lexa rod. :/

Well I have the sahara 2500 and I like it so far. The revros seems pretty good. Im looking at one in the 2500 size also. I also have a pflueger president but the 6920 size, very small I use it for pan fish. I like the president but am looking for a reel to pair with my 7'3 daiwa lexa spinning rod. MH Xtra fast.

The daiwa revros spinning reel is about $50 with 7 bearings and seems pretty good. It's a bit heavy in weight, 9.3oz. Anyone use them on the water before? Trying to weigh my options. Thanks!

Is There An Advantage To Palming A Bait Casting Reel, Or Is It A Comfort Thing?
I palm the reel for balance and comfort also. It's just a natural, habit kinda thing. But also I feel I have more power and control over the rod also.

Spinning Rod Line Slap??
My reel is properly set up no worries. My go to line is 8lb silverline copolymer, but NOW I'm just using my backing because I'm tired of respooling. It's 10lb trilene as my backing, but I tried that line out too.. still slappin

Spinning Rod Line Slap??
im pretty sure i spooled my reel correctly.. the only thing i can think of now is maybe OVER spooling or UNDER spooling.. too much or too little line.. but perhaps it could be the "Choking Point" on the rod? I read that to measure where the choking point on the rod is, you have to take the spool off and line up the reel stem or axle with a straight line (door, floorboards, table edge etc.) and wherever the rod/guides intersect on that line is the "choking point".. and with this reel its at the first guide.......

Spinning Rod Line Slap??
1 reel, multiple rods. 1 shimano sahara 2500 reel with different lines on different rods. and yes, i know this is getting confusing lol

Spinning Rod Line Slap??
I haven't tried the new rods on the water yet, but there is plenty of tension during the retrieve in my yard. I see and hear the line slapping the blank between the bail on the reel and the first guide, pretty much center between the 2. The line contacts the blank during a quick retrieve, not Nascar fast, but a steady quick reteieve. Obviously if I retrieve slowly the line won't hit.
