  1. Where exactly are you looking to fish? I have read in the Philly area the Flathead fishing is outstanding.
  2. Canoes and kayaks are also great for non- gas or restricted horsepower lakes.
  3. I grew up with big boats. Remember well Dad and Pop fiddling with the motors an d so forth. Learned from watching them and it has been canoes for me. Current one is a 17'L X 36" W Clearwater Seeing poly canoe. Paddles well solo but going to outfit it with a trolling motor and probably a fish finder. The four closest lakesto me are electric only and another that is restricted HP. Then there is the Lehigh River which for the most part is better served with a canoe or yak.
  4. Had it out on a 100 acre non-gas motor lake. Had a Sportspal years ago, this one is easier to paddle and more maneuverable than the Sportspal.
  5. Today I took my new canoe out on its maiden voyage. It's a 17' Clearwater Designs Muskoka. Very stable and unbelievably easy to paddle. Will eventually add a trolling motor bug for now it's just fine.
  6. Funny how on CraigsList you still see people selling boats with 25-30hp motors with 20hp covers.
  7. I have the large of this one,http://www.cabelas.com/product/Home/Tackle-Storage-Sale|/pc/105625080/c/157709880/Cabelas-Advanced-Anglers8482-Tackle-Bags/1391170.uts?destination=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D157709880 I went to Cabela's to get a bag in their circular for $39.99. They never had that bag in stock so they sold me this one for $39.99.
  8. PA requires a launch permit from Commission or DCNR controlled access points. Put a trolling or gas motor on and it has to be registered. I am registering right from the get go.
  9. Thanks guys. I have PFD'S and previous canoe experience. When I had my previous canoe I always wore my PFD. Last week on the Delaware a mother cand daughter duo of "experienced" kayakers died. No PFD's and the rivers here have been running high and fast for the past month with all the rain we have been getting.
  10. Well I am officially leaving the shoreline and drifting out. Picked up a 2002 Clearwater Designs Muskoka canoe last night. It's 17' and was only in the water twice. Eventually I will pick up a trolling motor but most ofvthe lakes I fish are smaller. Picked up a couple of rod holders, safety whistle in lieu of the air horn. Hope to hitvthe water this coming Saturday.
  11. I am in this process now myself. I shore fish but want to get on the water. With so many electric only lakes, I am going gthe canoe route with a trolling motor. Had one years ago and it was great for the the Nock and the Lehigh River.
  12. I bought va new Rippin Lips Supercar spinning rod off of Amazon. Agree the packaging is flimsy but thankfully the rod was OK.
  13. I accidentally picked up a spool of 50# Big Game. I use it for leaders on my Catfish rig.
  14. Didn't really introduce myself. I'm from Allentown, PA. I fish primarily Bass and Trout and have recently just started fishing for Catfish.
  15. Not a bass but this sunk my heart. I was wading in a river and I hooked into a Rainbow Trout that was around 9lbs. On my ultralight. After fighting and playing him I got him all the way in and as I was bringing the net around he raised his head out of the water and shook the hook.
  16. This year I have been doing best with jointed Rapala's and Rebels.
  17. Actually I really like my 5'6" Shakespeare Agility combo. No trout on it yet but the bass have been fun.
