  1. Crankbaits and swimbaits in the spring. Anything deep in the summer. realistic swimbaits and poppers in the fall. Speaking of poppers in the fall, my dad and I just caught a limit of bass (everywhere from 18" to 25") on poppers and swimbaits, under a bridge, in the shade, during the hottest part of the day. Hell of a test run for my new Rattlin' Chug Bug in Bleeding Pearl color. Worked like a charm!
  2. Roger has it right. The sun can only warm up the water so much. Fish the north side of the lake or dams or whatever big river feeds into it when you think the night temps are getting cooler. Then as the fall progresses, start moving down the lake and into little creek arms and coves. I don't know if this is accurate or scientific, but it's the pattern I always follow.
  3. Live bait will out fish lures, worms, jigs, etc. all day every day.
  4. Deer steaks, turkey burgers, chicken, pork chops, and grilled vegetables. Unfortunately, no fishing.
  5. Storm Wildeye Swim Shad 3", or a classic 5" Green pumpkin worm. Don't know if I could make that decision without flipping a coin.
  6. I take my Bass Pro XPS backpack. it's got everything I need, a cooler, pockets for baits/lures, pocket for 4 plano boxes, my net-stringer-and rope, filet knives, needle nose, and just about anything else I can think up. Oh, and 3 poles because that's all you're allowed to actively fish in St. Louis. Usually 6' and 6'6" light/medium bass/catfish poles, and an ultralight 5'6" Crapie/Bluegill pole. AND MY 5 GALLON BUCKET!!!! Can't forget that bucket!
  7. just a heads up on the bumble bug, I usually start fishing it just as fall starts to set in since it's a shallow crankbait. I don't know where you're at but here in St. Louis it's still a little warm for fishing very shallow. But it's a good lure to have in your arsenal come fall and early spring.
  8. d**n good looking lure selection. The only thing I'd add would be a Bumble Bug since fall is coming up soon. Is that a Storm Wildeye Blue Gill in there!?!?!? Love that bait.
  9. Can you expand on this? Or submit a link? Didn't know a monthly lure subscription was a thing but I'm definitely intrigued!!!
  10. If you can find one, the Megabass Siglett is AMAZING. Best top water I own and is at it's best in the upcoming fall fishing.
  11. Side note on the Bumble Bug, I prefer the Horsefly and June Bug colors.
  12. I have a lot of luck with poppers in the morning and evening. That's once they start coming in a little more shallow. Here in Missouri it's still a little too warm to be fishing a popper all day. Still sticking with the deep water fishing for now. I saw that Scott Martin video on here where he was talking about square bill cranks and fishing them where the birds are (because they're looking for shad). Insect lures like the Rebel Bumble Bug have done well for me too once it gets cooler. I agree with Kicker on the 5-6 foot depth, that's where the sweet spot is if they're not hitting the top of the water.
  13. I can attest for this reel! I have the IX 4000R and it works like a charm. I prefer the matte black finish over anything shiny. I've never once had a problem with it (granted it's only been about a year and a half) and it's smooth as could be. The only other Spinning reel I have is an Abu Cardinal S (I forget the model) and I have no complaints about that either, but if I was to buy another, I'd save the $20 or $30 and go right back to the IX 4000R. Great reel for a great price. Glad someone else is speaking up about this gem!
  14. TRD's it is. I'm going to Table Rock in a few weeks and I'm going to try it out (Ned Rig) for the first time so I might as well use it correctly.
  15. I've never tried the Elaztech paddle tails but I can attest for the tubes, best action from a tube that I've ever seen. don't let them get too hot and keep them away from other soft plastics. I always keep them in their own package. I usually stick with Fluke Jr but as you've probably found out they're rather easy to tear. I'm going to ride this Elaztech question and ask about the Ned Rig. I just discovered this a month or two ago and have read anything and everything about it. My question is, would the 4 inch Elaztech tubes work as well? I've got a few packages of those and would like to try them out before I jump ship and purchase the TRD or Hula stick.
  16. Lol, I like what I'm hearing! Probably why I have too many tackle boxes and not enough hands!
  17. I didn't know they have a cicada pattern, I'll have to check that out. I've got the horsefly and Junebug and they work great. I agree on the tiny trebles, I just removed the center and put a larger one on the back. Any advantage to a single hook turned upwards?
  18. I swear by the X-Rap Pop (Pearl Gray Shiner color) for White Bass and Smallmouth If you can afford it, check out the Siglett. You'll catch fish ALL DAY with this little guy. Only problem is that two of them will cost as much as your whole tackle box. Gotta put a decent treble hook on it too, otherwise you'll yank them out of the mouth all day long. http://www.amazon.com/Megabass-GRAND-SIGLETT-Topwater-Lamune/dp/B011218MB4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1440699093&sr=8-5&keywords=winged+cicada+lure
  19. I know the summer fishing gets a bit harder, but I just feel like it's been a lot harder than normal this year. I think Venom is right, too many people fishing not enough ponds/lakes. Gotta get out to the farm and hit up Table Rock for a weekend.
  20. I'm typically alone for the simple fact that none of my good buddies are as adamant as me in regards to getting out early, staying all/most of the day, and not getting upset when you have those days of one baby perch for 10 hours of fishing. My dad is usually my only fishing buddy and since he's retired he goes to the farm a lot to prepare our crops and stands for deer/turkey season. Maybe the problem is that I don't take enough time to help on the farm. and it's right next to Table Rock!!!!! Why am I here right now?!?!?!?!?! Table Rock here I come!!!!!!
  21. Calling all St. Louis people. Anybody having any luck out there? I can't seem to find anywhere that will produce a stringer's worth for me. I've been everywhere from Busch Wildlife to Bee Tree Park to the Meramec/George Winter Park and have the same results...............small fish. Catfish are about the only thing I've caught consistently with decent size. So, my question is: Is it just me? My baits? Or has anyone else been striking out more than normal lately? I use the typical setups: soft baits and willow blades (see my profile picture), lipless cranks (usually sexy shad color), poppers (also shad colored), worms (blue/black, watermelon/green, pumpkin/green, or watermelon/red), and once in a while Jig (gotta have that pig trailer)
  22. The CAD software I'm working with is ViaCAD 3D Pro V.9, and by working with it I mean it was successfully downloaded to my laptop about a week ago and I'm still trying to connect the dots between tutorials and actual functions within the program. Slow process but I'm excited about it. As far as hooks go I figured I would start with the standard #2 and #4 since I do a lot of Crappie fishing. I love BPS but I guess I've never really paid attention to see if they have individual parts since I'm really just now getting into custom tackle. I'll definitely be taking a look though.
  23. Just checked it out, looks like a pretty useful site. thanks
