  1. I tend to fish ponds mostly for both trout and bass. Last year all we used for trout were "Carolina rigs" with power bait...we had good success but it just doesn't feel like fishing, more like waiting and we'd like to try other methods this season. As for bass, we use all of the different baits/lures I mentioned above but I'm kind of partial to crank baits ?.
  2. I'm fishing for Rainbow's mostly in trout season. We usually go where the trophy's are stocked and catch some pretty decent sized ones around 20" and almost 2lbs. or so. Would a MH be okay for those?
  3. ***.com has a Denali Jadewood J2 on sale for $76...would this be a good choice?
  4. Yeah, don't have a ton of money so looking for versatility here for multi-species. Is there a Medium that is closer to a Medium-Heavy that would have more power over other Mediums (I know different brands view their rods differently)?
  5. I'm looking at this spinning rod, don't have any experience with them but have read some reviews saying they are a really good rod. I'm looking at the 7ft. MH/F...they call it a shakey head rod, does that mean it is made specifically for that style fishing or can it fish a variety of baits well? I mostly fish crankbaits, senkos, crawfish, buzzbaits, topwater, frogs and some small swimbaits. This rod would also be doing double duty for both bass AND trout...is the MH the best choice or would the M be a more versatile option? I can get this rod at ***.com for $76 on sale and think that is probably a pretty good deal. I also thought someone mentioned that they have a lifetime warranty which would be great too!
  6. Anybody else care to jump in on this?
  7. I use a variety: senkos, crawfish, topwater, frogs, crankbaits and buzzbaits.
  8. What is the best all-around bass/trout spinning rod...a Medium or a Medium-Heavy? I like the 7ft. length but I've been seeing a lot of Medium's in this spinning rod length and not as many Medium-Heavy.
  9. I see that TW has the Denali Jadewood J2 on sale for $81.79 too but don't have much experience with them.
  10. Okay, so my wife and I both go new spinning reels recently and she wants to keep her old reel mounted on a rod so I might give her my current rod to put her new reel on which means I'll be needing a new spinning rod for myself. I don't want to go crazy but would like a nice solid rod for around $75 or less. I'm thinking 7ft. MH/F action would be the most versatile setup.
  11. Okay, this may be a silly question but often times an even sillier question is the one not asked so here goes. I don't really understand much about adjusting the drag on a reel (either bait cast or spinning), how do you do it? What are you looking for? Should you adjust it while reeling in a fish? So far what I've been doing is taking the line in my hands and bending the rod down while trying to pull the line out...if it pulls too smoothly I've adjusted the drag until it pulls hard enough to offer good resistance but still pulls freely. Thanks for helping me expand my limited knowledge...lol!!!
  12. I've heard of people using a cap and sticking quarters in them. I have never personally tried this but that's just a nugget I've heard from others.
  13. Nope, when looking for my next rod I'm thinking to upgrade and not stay the same quality.
  14. Forgot to add that I was also given a KVD Tour 6'8" cranking rod too, I believe it's a M/MF action. The Abu Garcia ProMax is a 7ft. MH/F.
  15. I currently have an Abu Garcia ProMax casting rod that I aquired in a deal when i bought the rod & reel combo used. I have since sold the reel but still have the rod. This will be my first year with a bait cast setup and my question is would a Berkley Lightning Rod Schock be better than this ProMax rod that I currently have? I have thought about buying a new $100 rod but I'm thinking now maybe I'll hold off on buying an expensive (to me at least...lol) new rod that I'll make sure that I like bait casting first but would be willing to spend $50 on a new rod if it would be a definite upgrade over the ProMax rod.
  16. I just got a Pflueger President Limited Edition for $80 at Bass Pro Shops and can't wait for fishing season to start!!! The reel looks beautiful and seems very smooth, it's also neat knowing that this particular reel was only made for 2016 and once it's sold out it's gone.
  17. Did anybody notice the reels say 2014? I'm sure they're still excellent reels but if somebody was buying them thinking they're getting the newest tech reel they would be mistaken...these reels are 2 years old. I'm sure they're brand new in the box but they are holdovers from 2014 that haven't sold which is probably why they are being offered at a great price.
  18. Okay, so my wife currently uses an Abu Garcia STX30 spinning reel. Looking up the weight of that versus her new Pflueger Lady President 35 and it's 9.3oz compared to 9.9oz...we're talking .6oz difference here, do you think that's a lot and she'll get sick of holding it?
  19. Check out my similar thrtead from a week ago and you'll get quite a few ideas...$100 or less casting rod.
  20. Well, sort of...you said a size 35 on over 7ft. and a size 30 on anything 6'6" - 6'10" but you didn't say which way you'd go with a rod that is 7ft. :).
  21. Hello all, Okay, my wife and I just recently purchased a Pflueger President Limited Edition and a Lady President both is size 35, we originally were going to get size 30's but Bass Pro was out of them so we went with 35's. my question is which would be the best, most versatile size for both trout and bass fishing? Both of these reels will be going on Abu Garcia Vengeance 7ft. MH/F rods. I'd like to get a consensus so if I need to call Bass Pro corporate and see if we can swap the reels if need be. Thanks for your input!!!
  22. Not to thread-jack but do you think the size 30 is a better all around reel than the size 35? My wife and I both have 7ft. MH/F rods that they're going on.
  23. I just bought my wife the same thing but I went with a size 35 because she plans to use it for both Bass and Trout. She already has a 7ft. MH rod so that should match up well. I myself upgraded from my current spinning reel to a Pflueger President Limited Edition (size 35 as well) and can't wait for fishing season to begin .
  24. I went to my "local" Bass Pro (which is over 2 hours away from me) and they don't have any Villain 2.0's. Yes, I did call first to find that out but wanted to go any way. They said they never had the Villain and you can't find it anywhere on their web site either...just Veritas, Vendetta and Vengeance.
