Northern Virginia Area, Bass/snakehead Fishing
Nice snakehead DrD and thanks for sharing the info. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out to Aquia soon!

Chatter Baits Vs Buzz Baits Vs Spinner Baits
I've had more success with spinner baits, but I agree, they are all different with different purposes. As Bluebasser eluded to, there are many different variations of each. I need to start thinking out of the box and being more creative.

Chatter Baits Vs Buzz Baits Vs Spinner Baits
Thanks for sharing Bluebasser! I've been thinking about variations to spinners and this fits the bill.

Bullseye Snakehead - Urban Myth?
Yeah, especially as I got it closer to my canoe; it really started fighting at that point. It also destroyed my spinner bait. It bent the wiring and almost completely straightened out the hook. It was fun though!

Bullseye Snakehead - Urban Myth?
By referencing "canals", I'm assuming you're in Florida? I know they are here in Virginia. I haven't caught many but here's a 9.5 lb snakehead I caught off of a white on white bleeding spinner bait in early July.

Anyone Hit The Occoquan Reservoir Lately?
Hey Marvinlee, I just signed up yesterday for fishidy. It's a pretty interesting site, especially for free. You can upgrade to premium for added features but it starts costing $ at that point. I wish there were more local catches posted.

Not Catching Enough Fish. Not Doing Something Right...
Hey Bass newb, I hope you're busy catching fish but in case you're not, you should try the "Ned Rig". If you haven't tried it before, there is a plethora of information on how to rig one. I used a 1/16th chartreuse jig jead and a senko worm cut in half. I had to cut my time on the water short (I only spent about 25 minutes fishing), but I caught a 2-pounder right away.

Va
This is off topic, but CeeJay is your avatar any indication of your go-to bait? I've been fishing spinnerbaits quite a bit. Kevin Van Dam has some good info on them. After reading his guide, I started fishing them.

Some Fun On The Tidal Potomac River
Turtle, funny you should mention it! I said earlier that it was a 3/8 oz but now that I think about it, it was a 3/16 oz spinner; anyway, I thought I was fighting a good-sized catfish and I made sure to set the hook, and then one more time for good measure. In the end I didn't even hook the fish. My spinner was all jacked up and it bent the hook clear back. She was holding on to my spinner just out of spite I guess, lol!

Not Catching Enough Fish. Not Doing Something Right...
I had a rough day a few weeks ago. I was out for several hours. I was tired, hungry, and sweating my butt off and decided to call it. As I was paddling in I would occasionally throw a spinner to the banks and it paid off. I ended up catching this 9.5 lb snakehead; it made my day!

Not Catching Enough Fish. Not Doing Something Right...
This is a great topic with awesome replies. I'm in a lull myself but these posts with different views and words of encouragement made me realize I need to work on my versatility. I've tried swimbaits, crankbaits, drop-shotting, jigging, spinners; but only one at a time. I need to be prepared to change it up on the fly versus using only one style each time I go out. Congratulations on ending your dry spell Bass newb! Don't get discouraged if you experience it again, just keep changing it up until you find something that works.

I forgot to congratulate you on your snakehead. Here's my first snakehead-9.5 lbs caught with a 3/8oz white on white bleeding spinnerbait.

Some Fun On The Tidal Potomac River
Nice fish Turtle and thanks for sharing! I fish in the waters around Fort Belvoir but want to venture out a little more. I've been using spinner baits and changing up the colors and blades but I'm in a lull right now. I think I'll try some finesse worms or the B Bug:) Take care!

Finally Caught My First Frog Fish!

Northern Virginia Area, Bass/snakehead Fishing
Hey Venom, I know I'm late to reply but I figured I'd share anyway. I've had some success in the waters around Fort Belvoir. I've caught bass, catfish, and snakehead in Accotink Bay, Accotink Creek and Dogue Creek. Below is a link to a pic of a 9.5 lb snakehead I caught at Dogue Creek. Good luck and let us know how it goes! http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/uploads/gallery/album_1804/gallery_56307_1804_383263.jpg

Anyone Hit The Occoquan Reservoir Lately?
Huntrava, what are you catching them on if you don't mind me asking? I've been fishing strictly with spinners to gain confidence but that slowed down. I haven't been catching anything lately. I mostly fish the Accotink Bay and tributaries nearby as I live on Fort Belvoir, but I'm going to have to check out Occoquan.
