Fluke Fishing?

Featured Replies

So I got my first fluke fish yesterday. Pretty neat bait the way it works. Worked awesome in the scummy pond I was fishing I could drag it over the scum moss and drop it into the holes. I was using a zoom super fluke. I was curious on the colors and brands of flukes y'all prefer?

Arkansas shiner is my favorite color for Zooms. I prefer the Bass Assassins, I like the plastic better-it's heavier and softer. I started making my own about 10 years ago trying to get some that floated, some that would sink. Overall, I think all the brands do a nice job on these, the hook is the most important factor to me.

i like the zoom flukes.  colors are white, albino and disco violet.

What kind of hooks are y'all using?

When I throw the fluke, I throw Zoom's: WM seed WM red, Albino, Arkansas shiner, and an  Albino color with a light green tint. 3/0 EWG Gami on 12lb Yozuri Hybrid.

Smokin Silver and baby bass. 4/0 wide gap.

Why the wide gap hook? Just curious I was using a round bend worm hook thought it would be ok because of the slit in the bait

I use 3/0 EWGs or 3/0 owner twist-locks. A Zoom super fluke jerked and twitched over submerged weeds is one of my very favorite early summer baits. Lots of good colors and they all work, but I'm partial to green pumpkin magic.

Habit and compatibility with a wide variety of other plastics if I swap it out for something else.  I'm sure a round bend would do just fine.

That makes complete sense

I lost one the other day on an albino Super Fluke.  I was using, I believe an 4/0 weighted EWG superline hook.  But, I'm not sure if I like the thickness of the superline hook.  I'm new to this and didn't set the hook well.

skip gap hook.  keeps the bait on there much easier.

Dshad in smoke shad with a mustad grip pin swimbait hook 4/0

Watermelon seed, white pearl, baby bass, and houdini are the colors I use most often. I use a 3/0 hook, and most of the time weightless.

Awesome guys thank you so much for the advice. I messed with hooking them normal and upside down today to change the action. I've got some watermelon red, white, and baby bass right now

Look at the watermelon slice, watermelon belly with watermelon neon on top!

I'll deffinatly check those out!

Hmmm.  If there were only a master of Flukes that could help.

How far above the bait do you place the swivel?

What swivel?

2-3 feet maybe?  I don't use a swivel (I hate hate hate extra hardware) but flukes twirl around a lot, so a swivel can cut down on line twist.

i would suggest looking at another hook , those skip gap hooks are garbage , they will flex so bad your fish will slide off the hook !! in my opinion , worst hook ever made ... sorry  :Idontknow:

want a killer hook , take a gander at Owner's Rig - n Hook in 3/0 , super sharp and perfect gap for Zoom 4'' flukes ....

Watermelon seed worked very well for me in clear water.
